Also remember: If you got a good SAT score but want a better chance at earning merit scholarships & grants, apply to some schools that accept lower SAT scores than you have. You have a much better chance at earning great merit scholarships vs at top schools where you'll be competing with a lot more people with similar scores. That's what I did and I'll be graduating debt-free from my university! Save that money for grad school or buying a house.

That's what I did too! Between the merit scholarships and financial aid, I never had to pay a dime in undergraduate tuition. I also still got offers from two of the best companies to have on a resume in my field. The school I went to no longer matters once employers see that.

2023 here and I somehow managed to get 1320 on my first SAT. Even with this good score, I wasn't happy with it. Then I actually managed to get a 1460 on my second which was a 710 English 750 Math.

The school system brainwashed you into thinking that if you dont do well in school you wont achieve your full potential. Guys. Scores are NOT EVERYTHING. I go to a public hs where the average sat is 1350 and about 5% of the class scores 1550+. Every year I see top students rejected from top schools with these kind of scores and going to state schools. I myself got a 1570 770RW/800M and know this will most likely be my fate. I would love to see a video on top honors colleges and programs and the differences, as I believe these are becoming a reality for many students who had ivy league dreams, including myself. @@Anonymous-hv2zc Honestly? Depends on your situation. I scored 1520 without studying, then did tutoring once a week with a tutor for 2 months who wouldn't take any student who didn't score above a 1500 on the diagnostic exam. I would recommend tutoring if possible but it is by all means not necessary. A lot of it is your schooling more than tutoring, so students from better schools will fair better. If this is not you, what I would suggest doing is this: for math, make sure you know all the rules. Then do every problem you can find. SAT math is about the application of rules, and so practice is the best way. As for reading, go over every single problem you do, right or wrong, and see the justification. There is no subjectivity in the SAT and if you accept this and learn their logic, you can be successful. Finally, for writing, I would suggest just reading. I didn't really study at all for this. Grammar rules just sound right or wrong to me, and this is because I used to read a ton when I was younger. Learning the rules may help, but I think if you have the time, reading is a better idea. Challenging yourself with reading is important, but don't go over the top. If you enjoy reading, you will do it more. Sorry for any grammar or spelling errors, and although this was a short and maybe slightly confusing answer, I hope it helped a little. Good luck!

I would also like to comment that scores do matter, they are just not everything. For most top schools, a 1550+ will be good enough, but anyone who has told you higher scores don't make a difference is lying. There is a difference between 1550 and 1500 or 1550 and 1600 in acceptances rates. Whether you wanna chalk it up to the type of student that gets each score or the score itself is up to you, but there is a a correlation between increased score and increased acceptance rate. That being said, once you reach 1500, focus on other things that make you stand out if you have time. If not, by all means drill the SAT until it's essay season

Even though I took that exam. 10 years ago. It was $30. To me the entire system is bullshit. I see that it has increased to $60. Did school. University included not warn the next generation of students, about the debt trap ? Do those who work within academia not see people burning their papers and what not ? The college board profits based on the number of times, which students take that exam. Or the grace period ? The grace period is a couple of months, which you are given to find work and start paying the loans back, if the individual or person took out any.

Because I am an international student, I don't have all this pressure to do well on the SAT, since here we use another test, besides that I am still in the 9th grade. But right now I study in a VERY GOOD school, on a scholarship, and super competitive, and I need to get really good grades, which is super complicated since I have 24 subjects, so I understand about the pressure. and I know it's a cliché, but focus on your future and f*ck your parents, seriously! because if you do badly because of them then you will feel bad. Get your ass out of your chair and spend the whole day studying, because if you do well, you will do well because of you, not because of your parents. The same thing if you do badly, it will be your fault and not theirs. when you take this motto with you, everything will be much easier.

I'm only here because this popped up in my feed. So, I might as well say my peace. 1) I went to a private Jesuit college. I never took the SAT. 2) There are articles across the internet that many colleges are ending the SAT and other entrance examinations. Thats all I have to say (on that). Life doesn't have to be stressful. People should stop making it that way. Life is short. Its too bad most people don't realize that until their 40s or 50s. Its probably because schools condition kids to expect the worst and suffering is somehow noble. But, carry on ... Everyone must learn for themselves.

Thank you for the info! Im a Brazilian student struggling if it's worth applying to the US. I did a in-depth research, some “mock” sat’s at home, and have a strong sympathy for certain American colleges' education structure as compared to Brazilian or European universities, which I'm fortunate to have the citizenship in both places. Nevertheless, if I do decide to take this time to apply and commit to this dream that has grown on me in the past few years, I’d have to eliminate one of my options, whether USP in Brazil or EPFL in Switzerland due to the amount of time set into both. While balancing my studies for the local admissions test(Fuvest-USP), the EPFL’s entrance exams in French, and a few EC’s, I obtained a couple of 1550+ scores at home following all the procedures as time-monitored tests. I judge my English as near-fluent since I have been taking classes since I was 9. Above all, I have a strong passion for physics, mathematics, and technologies(mainly AI related to physics research). I also would be prone to take SAT II, and possibly AP exams, as well as the TOEFL to sum up with my 9.6 out of 10 GPA. My main concern involves my financial background and my lack of extracurriculars related to my major of interest - math or physics with computer science. I have participated weekly in two educational NFOs since I was in middle school and more recently online with administrative work, some calls, and at the end of the pandemic as a teacher, which I loved; I had acoustic guitar lessons in the same period mentioned until I started piano lessons one year ago; I have been taking English and French private lessons for 4 years; and played varsity state-level soccer, being the captain until the pandemic started. I acknowledge and feel this excitement for applied maths and physics pushing me to possibly pursue a career in academia and live I life I won't regret, however, I awfully believe that my extracurriculars aren't good enough for top 20 schools and I'm inclined to study in epfl where id have an amazing education, but entirely different from what I've expected as the holistic formation to some eclectic interests that I also have in history and art. Back to my financial means, I'm entirely grateful for the opportunities that I already have and a possible new pursuit would be limited to an investment of $25,000 per year from my parents. By converting my mother’s income to USD(~$35,000) we would qualify for 100% financial support from need-based universities, and those would be my goals. My question is, am I a strong applicant for America’s A-1 universities undergrad or have I lost my chance by not investing in a passion project?

I’m no expert here but I would advise you not too. You should probably look at acceptance rates as well as other things in order to get a better idea. Event though you got a great score I’m sure several other people applying did as well. There’s always a chance of getting rejected.

I think you should! I had the same score and got into some really selective schools for my major (UCLA, UT Austin, etc.). That being said, I would suggest you only consider them targets if your SAT score falls on the lower side of your accomplishments, meaning that your ECs, GPA, recommendations, and essays (most of these) are stronger/equivalent is strength than your SAT. honestly take it as many times as you feel you need to. bcuz u can prepare really well and maybe the day of the test nerves, anxiety, etc. might get to u, or u may just not perform well for sum reason that particular day. if you feel like you've tried your best and youre content, then you dont have to retake. if u dont, then retake.

Well I would not advise the university route. You get in, so years later they will be harassing you to make monthly payments. The university system is nothing more than a pyramid scheme. You will be surprise to find out that the regular person, who has a normal job is better of than anyone who went to university. No class I took at university taught me about what a voided check is or what a declaration page is and that exam. Even though it was ten years ago, when I took it was $30, just to see the price of the exam inflate to $60. I threw my SAT book in the trash.

I have the college board version and not gonna lie that book miss lead me on the actual tests. They go over concepts but the difficulty level is way easier in the books , then on the test.

They have one specifically designed for the new sat. College board test books are good , but college panda just does it in better in my peference

I'm a rising first-generation senior applying to college and I just got my SAT score. So I took the SAT School Day in March and I scored 1150(540 EBRW and 610 Math) and went into the June SAT scoring 1220(610 EBRW and 610 Math). I'm scheduled to retake it again in August, and I want to apply to the University of Southern California through QuestBridge, should I focus more on improving the Math section or EBRW section? Is it realistic to go from 1220 to at least 1450 in this amount of time left until the August administration?

The schools I want to apply to(I live in Texas btw) are USC, Texas A&M- College Station, UT Austin, Baylor University, UT Arlington, UT Dallas, Texas Woman's University, UT El Paso, UT San Antonio, Texas State University, University of North Texas. For a good 6 of these schools I mentioned I exceed their standards of SAT requirements. Should I apply to A&M with that score even if it's on the low percentile (1160-1380)? Side note: I only sumbitted scores to the schools in which I exceed their standards on the SAT

Don't focus on one or the other, I'd focus on getting better at both. Khan Academy is a great resource. You can link it to your Collegeboard account to see what you need to improve on specifically. 1360 falls in the 25th percentile for USC, so aim for that unless you want to go into a really competitive major. I'd submit scores if you score in the middle 50% or above accepted. Remember, you need at least 1260 to qualify for Questbridge. Good luck coming from a fellow 1st gen senior!

I don't think you need a 1500 to get into Northeastern. It should be in the previous section with NYU and Tufts. If anything, NYU is harder to get into than both NE and Tufts because NYU gets more (worldwide) applications than both of those schools.

As a freshman that is great. Don’t worry, just put in the hours of studying (efficient studying ofc, like taking a practice test, recording what you got wrong, and focus on those things before another practice test). You’ll be a 1450+ by junior year

1310 is an alright score for a freshman. If you’re aiming for 1550+ then it’s a bit bad, but if you’re aiming for a low score like 1400-1500 then you’re on track!

Tyler 1400 is by no means a low score. That is even in the top 5%. For an Ivy League school, it is on the low side, but with good essays and extra curriculars, a 1400 could get you in almost anywhere
