If you are an avid amateur photographer and have taken high quality picture of family members like (grand)parents, uncles etc., you might already have taken the picture that’s going to be on display during their funeral. A black and white portrait that I took of my dad was put up next to his urn. We selected that image without even giving it a second thought or having any discussion. It went like „That one.“ - „Yep, agreed. That one“. I had taken that picture using his old 35mm film camera he had given to me a few years prior and that had been on along our family holidays in the 80s and 90s. That fact made a bunch of people cry like babies when they found out about it. Everyone said that this was an absolutely beautiful touch and this image was perfect. It now hangs on the wall in my mom‘s kitchen.

Oh lego stuff is frelling insane. People buying up sets with no intention of building them for the sole purpose of selling the unopened box for thousands of dollars later.

Fighting games. Underground tournaments are fun as hell, but they are also ghetto as hell and can be fights over the pettiest things. Smash was easily the worst with the biggest crash outs when losing and there can be people who will cuss you out if you pick a low tier. But ive seen irl fights over street fighter and tekken

War reenacting has a bit of a dark side to it. What happens occasionally, especially with the guys that play the bad guys. Accidental growth into the beliefs of the side that they portray. This is usually because the groups don't address the historical context or punish the people that espouse those beliefs. I see it quite a bit within the civil war community as a Union reenactor. Those historical context conversations are important to have within the groups, even though many of us are experts in our own right on the subject.

aquarium keeping: many breeders will refuse to sell both genders of some higher end fish species (Scarlet Badis and show grade guppies are particularly notorious for this) as it opens the chance for other people to start their own breeding projects
@nancydowney300122 күн бұрын
Wow, that's really awful. Many, many years ago, I bred fancy guppies and sold them to the aquarium store. They always let me know when they had a fish they thought I would like because they could sell mine for a lot.

I have two hobbies that I have had issues with. Fictional writing. The community is very cut throat and judgemental, and they rip apart characters and storylines. It is also similar with the online artist community... Source; I have joined online groups to help with my stories and learn to draw better, and have been torn apart. (Not fan fic, but it would fall into a similar category.)

I LOVE cold bedrooms! It's the perfect excuse to wear long pajamas and use a weighted blanket! Plus, adult onesies are crazy comfortable, especially the ones with a hoodie! Then your face is cold while the rest of your body is toasty! 😍

Drum Corps didn’t get NEARLY as much of a description as it warrants. Sexual assault/harassment, violent hazing, and an all around toxic culture ride rampant within some corps. I have too many horror stories from my single season marching drum corps.

As part of the model train community, rivet counters are annoying asshats half the time, yes, but the dark side is *really* among the idiots who want to get clout or money off of overpriced models or dangerous actions, ala broadway limited’s typical prices, brass models are more of a scam than people paying over a grand a model want to admit, or the kid deliberately crashing a full sized train for the video.

Apple device collecting Yes that’s a thing Drives prices up on eBay for hard to come by devices (first gen iPhone) hard to find devices that aren’t bricked or just hard to get ahold since most devices end up not going onto eBay end up rotting in the owners home becuase they forgot or were recycled Prototype device collecting amplifies all of these problems even more due to how secretive the R&D process is with most either being bricked or damaged (based on the ones that do leak) This isn’t really a problem if you just want a few devices or they are “hand me down” and no one cares I still have my iPhone X and 6 (mostly from forgetting about their existence)
