Good grief, her English makes my toes curl (I'm half-German). Apart from everything else. -- I'd also like to tell everyone that German has majorly majorly shifted to the right, and that is ALL parties! The socialists have been pushing conservative anti-immigration rhetoric, and the CDU chancellor candidate has suggested a coalition with the AfD for years. His party actually publishes posters saying "we do what the AfD promises in a democratic way" -- what the hell!!!! It's dire and dark, and it reflects the soul of the people here.
@JamesMc205111 күн бұрын
It seems like the same all over. It's like that in the UK too. The last Tory governments were neoliberal and austerity, then got increasingly more concerned with losing voters to the ever changing name UKIP/Brexit/Reform and so shifted to the right and made immigration their focus (of their rhetoric anyway, their actual actions in government were complete failure by every metric other than enriching themselves). Now we have a Labour government (because two parties win elections here and the other one had been in government for fourteen years at that point and improved nothing) but their leader spent most of his campaigning talking about immigration too and trying to capture conservative voters. End result. Our most right wing party is more influential than before. Our centre-right party has gone further right. Our left wing party has gone to the centre. Everyone has shifted to the right. Why? Two reasons. Global politics have brought a larger number of refugees and although they make up a small percentage of our total immigration they do capture the news headlines whenever someone dies attempting to cross the channel on a makeshift boat so the news gets flooded with these stories. And the other reason - tech. Look around the internet and it isn't the left which is on the rise and hasn't been for a good fifteen - twenty years now. Even reading message boards and comments on political articles shows which side of the political spectrum is most active. It wasn't always this way. It switched around the 2000s - firstly with Iraq and then more so after the 2008 financial crash - and despite the right being in power after that (and being a complete disaster) - we're still being pulled to the right now. I doubt the world's richest man becoming interested in and active in global politics will change that. We're headed to major conflicts on our current trajectory because we've been here before.

Make funds available and empower the people over corporations. Make use of non proprietary software the norm. Stop trying to put dumb regulations in the way as if US companies are going to comply rather than blocking the service in Europe. Fight for change instead of trying to hold it back. Europe can't possibly beat the US or China on resources but it can undercut their advantage by supporting grass roots bottom up innovation. Europe could have encouraged the Euro to be the stablecoin of choice by being less hostile to cryptocurrency than the US. Instead they create more overcomplicated idiotic rules that drive any innovation out. Now that industry will belong to the US as well.

While I agree with the general direction you guys are going, saying 'he controls 60% of satellites' is a meaningless term. Virtually all of those 60% of satellites are solely for internet connections that have completion from other ground or satellite providers in most populations centres. Satellites perform countless other vital jobs and he controls few, if any of those ones. What perhaps more relevant is him having power over more mass to orbit capability than the entire rest of the world combined. It seems mutually beneficial for Elon and Russia to prevent the EU having its own satellite-enabled internet. You are so so right! I am always amazed how little important people know about people! Musk was crazy when Obama worked with him and he either didn’t know or he ignored this important fact!

In Obama times Musk was a 'green' entrepreneur set on designing good electric cars. That was ages ago.

Great Journalism Novara, I found it very interesting the reason why musk is becoming active in European politics (because not using space x services, it reminds me of when he started berating the cave diver in thailand because they would us his products). It's essential that we have independent organisations which have peoples best interest in place for such important things as satellites and social media (and even delivery services I would say). My suggestion has always been that government should fund startups for a new type of company (or perhaps it these type of companies legally already exist) but a sort of cooperative model where each individual member (staff, paying customer) are equal shareholders). This way the companies can focus on hiring decent staff and providing best service without interference of a small group of shareholders, then any income that has been made goes out to a return for all the customers/staff. Of course the people in charge will still get decent pay as their jobs are difficult, but it will prevent all the money going out in dividends and also remove the issue of the government having to be directly involved in maintaining the infrastructure (the companies would be independent and not government run), if the government invested in these types of models they could make a deal where when the company starts making profit they have to pay back the government with interest, what member of public wouldn't want to invest in this? At the moment we have no choice to use the tech companies we are given, but as far as I am concerned, this is the best solution to have a real alternative.

AFD maybe bad, but unfortunately current leadership of EU is even worse. That's why so many people are voting for AFD. That's what we should discuss: how bad current leadership of EU is.

1:04 Björn Höcke, leader of the far-right AfD faction "Der Flügel" (engl. "The Wing"), is *_not_* (co-)founder of the party. Bernd Lucke founded the AfD in 2013 as a Euro sceptics party, and left in 2015 as it shifted more and more to the right. It's a running gag amongst Germans that even they can't distinguish both names, frequently calling the leader of the Flügel "Bernd Höcke", and the actual founder "Björn Lucke".
