It never ceases to amaze how these lock doors can hold the water back.

It's exciting to watch when the water is released when they lower the vessel in the lock.

We'll try to get that for you. If you look at one of my recent videos with the FEDERAL WELLAND you can watch it being raised in Lock 7.

I live in Detroit,Michigan and I am also a new subscriber to your channel. I have heard about the Algoma Discovery had a fire a few days ago.
@niagarascenes Жыл бұрын
Yes, the vessel had a fire on board on Monday. It was extinguished quickly by the local Fire Department. Kudos to the brave firefighters that went into the the engine room to get the fire under control. @@niagarascenes oh goodness, is she another Blough/St. Clair situation or is she salvageable?
@niagarascenes Жыл бұрын
@@jonathanellsworth21 We walked by her the other day and the work crews were still carrying out winter maintenance. I think she'll be ready for this years shipping season. The vessel is parked directly in front of Lock 8 so they'll have to move her by next Wednesday when the Canal opens.

They do yearly maintenance during the canal closure January-March. Certain sections get emptied and then the maintenance is carried out.

Where did the water go? Stupid question, I know
@niagarascenes Жыл бұрын
Since the Canal is divided by a series of locks, the Seaway Authority just drains the water between locks so that they can carry on maintenance. This year all the water between Lock 1 and Lock 4 was drained. The water in these areas is just emptied into Lake Ontario. It only takes them a few days to fill it all back up again.
