It’s so sad seeing them ending up like that. Grand veterans of the Great Lakes. Thank you for all your many years of service. I find it hard watching these videos 😞❤️

It's hard seeing these ships here. Breaks my heart! Ojibway was a total surprise!
@TheMudbrooker2 жыл бұрын
The Ojibway was the last straight deck boat that hadn't been converted to a self unloader still in service on the Great Lakes. There are still a couple of straight deckers in indefinite layup, but they'll likely be scrapped soon.

I am going to miss seeing the Manistee here in Toledo. Glad I took a few pics of her a few years ago while she was tied up here.

I went to the museum near the manistee and by the time I came out she was gone

it would have been great to see these ships as museum ships

I think she’s shifted much closer to the Manistee now, bow to stern with her. I will be in the area Saturday and might run over and see her but I think it will be tough to see much past the stern

When you panned down the length of the Ojibway hard to believe it's junk.

I’ve seen all 3 of these ships in person the manistee I’ve seen so many times. Where was the Mississagi towed to?

She ended up being towed to the Purvis Marine scrap dock in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, arriving on Oct 10, 2021

On the plus side, pretty sure they've built 3 or 4 new ships.( forget where that is, michigan? Red place)

I'm wondering why the Ojibway is being scrapped? She was built in the 50's and there are others of similar age doing well.

Rumor is failed inspection. Had to have been a fairly serious issue to simply drop the ship
@bluerazor70492 жыл бұрын
Lost a contract, failed inspection and someone told me that she has a weak hull apparently but I'll take that with a grain of salt. Mississagi is rotten to no end from the salt runs. St. Clair was burned to a crisp and her keel was badly damaged.

To bad someone couldn't get the picture of the Ojibway on her stacks and save them for the history of her maybe put it in a museum?

How long does it take to fully scrap a ship?
@RightInNiagara2 жыл бұрын
I say about a year more or less for the larger ones. Less for the smaller boats and ferries. For example, Algoma Enterprise - a large ship - arrived in Jan 2021, and her last remnants were still being cut up in Mar 2022, so that one took about 14 months.

They dragged her down, dead, from Tobermory Too cheap to spare her one last head of steam. Deep in diesel fumes embraced, rust and soot upon the face Of one who was so clean. They brought me here to watch her in the boneyard, Just two old wrecks to spend the night alone. It's dark inside this evil place, clouds on the moon hide her disgrace. The whiskey hides my own. It's the last watch on the Midland The last watch alone. One last night to love her, The last night she's whole.
