I just came back from a scuba liveaboard trip to the Socorros Islands below Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. I took my X3 (with the older dive housing) while most of my buddies had GoPros. In every case, their footage was clearer and more vibrant. Especially the deeper in the water column we went. The GoPros had noticeably better low-light capabilities. I was kinda bummed about it. On my next trip I'll probably go back to my GoPro, or at least bring it. But I agree that high in the water column where light is abundant you can get acceptable results with an X3.

I do agree that GoPro gets an overall better picture (as I mentioned) Although I'd be interested to see if the X4 is any better. Also with scuba I don't face the issue of my short breath hold and finning down madly resulting in shaky footage. You can be a lot more calm when you can breathe underwater. My GoPro has let me down too many times though - battery suddenly saying it's done, overheating, and sim card corruptions has just happened too many times. My daughter lost all her manta ray footage when she borrowed one of my previous GoPro's

I just came back from a dive trip using a GoPro 12 and an Insta360 X3. Both have their place. The X3 goes an amazing job on conveying the feeling of being underwater. The GoPro is much better for close ups, macro etc. I used 10 bit log for the GoPro without any filters. I then use LUTS to correct the 12's footage.

I tend to agree. On a dive, I'd be more inclined to have a GoPro as my movement would be less erratic, but I'm a complete convert to the Insta for snorkling

Will the single lens mode on x3 without the case be good just for some basic swimming pool videos of dogs? I'm confused now.. between and hero 10 black. Please help.
@CurryKitten2 ай бұрын
I've never tried it on single lens mode - I don't know if you get the stabilization or not. Personally I'd choose Insta over GoPro these days just because the hardware seems better designed. The amount of overheats/crashes/dodgy batteries I get on GoPro is a joke

Got my X3 last summer and purchased the dive case last week My 3 gopros are just collecting dust.

Great video, really useful! What settings do you use on the Insta360 for diving? 4K 60fps?
@CurryKitten8 ай бұрын
No, as I want as much resolution as possible, I'm using 5.7k at 30fps. I'd like the 4k at 60fps, but once you edit it to the views you want, it can look at bit low res

Very interesting. I haven't seen underwater footage from gopro or insta before.

Here's me thinking everyone took a GoPro with them on holiday to poke at the fishes :)

Where is this dive ? Looks incredible

All the footage where you can see a reef is on the island of Vilamendoo in the Maldives. The Manta/Whale Shark stuff was a few hours boat ride away
