I became much more appreciative of flowers last year. Early in the pandemic I started walking around my neighborhood and noticed so many beautiful flowers in my neighbor’s yards/gardens. For the first time I really noticed different varieties of flowers reaching their peaks at different times. I would sometimes plan my route for the next morning based on which flowers were likely to be blooming. I tried to capture their beauty with iPhone photography that I posted on social media, and the comments I got from people who enjoyed seeing the flowers during the stress of 2020 gave even more purpose to my walks. Now, seeing early spring flowers starting to pop up is motivating me again. Thanks for sharing your favorites Hannah! 🌸🌼🌷🌺🌻🌹

My former neighborhood in Denver was full of flowers and I used to spend my days just walking up and down smelling them. Peonies are my absolute FAVORITE, I think I might grab some if I can :) The other gift that neighborhood gave me was a bit of clandestine advice. A door to a basement in an old brick building said “please close door gently and completely”. I took a picture of it, and couldn’t get the words “gently and completely” out of my mind. “Do all things gently and completely” has become a daily mantra of mine specifically related to tasks. It reminds me a lot of your resolution :D

My cat brings me SO much joy for SO many years now. I come home from work tired and sometimes desperate (because I work in events which have obviously not been happening for a year now), and seeing him makes my heart feel lighter, puts a smile on my face and gives purpose to the rest of my day. Im grateful not only for having him, but also for being able to recognise the joy he offers me, now more than ever. :)

Flowers have also been cheering me up lately! I've gotten into the habit of picking up tulips at the market every other week or so as a little gift to myself. It's tulip season in the Netherlands so they're quite cheap and come in so many different colors. They're on my dining table (which also serves as my desk) so I see them all the time and they bring me so much joy!

I love that you chatted about Animal Crossing a bit, my Switch has been 90% my "Animal Crossing Only" console for the last year or so. You're spot on about how it has given people back some of what the pandemic took away - low stakes routine, a sense of connection with friends who also play, enjoyment of small things. Even if the excitement for now has waned a little bit, I would still recommend checking it out as the seasons pass -- late fall/November is such a fun time on the island, I partially measured my sanity last year by my daily mushroom gathering in the game 😂 It's just a very sweet game.

Hi Hannah, this is maybe not an issue since you moved the lillies to a different room, but I just wanted to tell you that lillies are incredibly toxic to cats. You probably already know this, but I felt compelled to warn you and Sadie! Having said that, the thing that has cheered me up lately is going outside and looking at wild flowers. Nature has such a calming and soothing effect on me.
@alicewonder49233 жыл бұрын
I was going to make this comment too. One of my cats almost died from lilly pollen. And I used to think it was just the pollen, but it’s the whole plant. Even the water they’re sitting in can kill. And you have to start treating them for exposure within the first 72 hours, otherwise there is nothing that can be done. It feels awful to make such a down comment on such a positive video, but it’s so important.
@amybondeson88363 жыл бұрын
Aaggghhh! I JUST learned this from a client who racked up a $4000 vet bill (thankfully her cats were fine) from exposure to lilies. I had no idea even though I’ve had cats and mixed bouquets living together for 20+ years 😳

What's cheering me up: I recently discovered the Outlander series - it was only on Starz, I think, and I don't have that so knew nothing about it. I know I'm several years late to the party, it started in 2014 or something. It came to Netflix recently and I L O V E it so much. The chemistry between the leads is off the chain. It's gorgeous, filmed in Scotland, France, the West Indies and the US. The costumes are amazeballs. The acting is really good. It's historical, has time-travel, is sensual/romantic/intimate, also brutal at times (you can see the worst of the violence coming a mile away and can skip it if you want, I don't tolerate gratuitous violence well -- could not stand Game of Thrones, but in Outlander it's different in a better way, imo, told from the survivor's perspective and not the perp, etc.) It's just a great, sweeping story, and I watch a few episodes at night every day. Seasons 1-4 are on Netflix and you can buy Season 5 on Amazon. There are 12 episodes, each about an hour-long, to each season. Season 6 just starting shooting after a COVID delay of a year. Freedom & Whiskey! :)

It must be so much fun when you can't see people in real life and nurturing plants is so healthy even though it is on a screen💘 Your photo album is so cute. It's so funny hearing you talk about the shows you've been watching, because one of the good things to have come from quarantine for me has been me and my friends having a weekly tv show watch party over Discord! It's been so cool seeing my college friends interact with my high school friends and my grad school friends and also throwing my brother and his wife into the mix, it's just made for a really unique friend group that would not have happened were it not for quarantine. It's just been so lovely to see people from so many facets of my life finally get to meet each other and make new friends. We started with Avatar at the beginning of the pandemic and then watched Korra. And now we're on Gravity Falls, which I think you would really like! It's a little more spooky than some of the shows you've mentioned here, but in that same vein of children's shows with awesome characters and an engaging plot. Thanks for sharing what's cheering you up :)

(This is not a criticism of you, just kinda thinking out loud around something you said). It really surprises me that people still feel like technology isolates and divides people after the pandemic, when "technology" (i.e., networked computers) is perhaps the sole reason why people are still connected through the past year. So too, telecommunications and the internet are essentially the entire reason how very small, disenfranchised groups of people connect and find community. Those groups are so small that, sans the internet, they would be so spread out that they would likely never know there were other people like them. On a more micro-level, I grew up in an abusive household, where my dad severely limited the socializing I could do with other people-but he did let me have a computer in my room. The internet is essentially the only reason I had close friends growing up. And, as an adult who is very much not everyone's cup of tea (because I do shit like write 10 paragraphs based on one line in a video), telecom/the internet/"technology" is a big reason I have friends today. It ruffles my feathers a bit when people make broad statements like that, because the internet is so essential to my ability to connect with people. None of which is to say that there aren't ways that connecting over telecom impacts how we communicate or how close we feel to the people we talk to. It definitely does. But I feel like the picture is so much more complex than technology tearing us apart and making us feel less connected to each other, writ large. There are all sorts of layers and nuances (which you did not give because that's not what this video is about and I'm literally writing a novel about a throwaway line I am so sorry), but I have yet to see a convincing argument that even net impact of telecom is anything other than people being MORE meaningfully connected with each other, not less. Anyway, this video was posted two days ago so I'm basically shouting into the void, but it's been a while since I wrote a thesis on one of HLP's videos, so I figure it's time for one. lol Thanks for making this video, Hannah! I paused it to vomit my thoughts, but I'm looking forward to hearing about what is making you happy these days.

What's been cheering me up: Pokemon Go - I can battle and catch pokemon at home. Going to hit poke spots gets me out of the house which makes me happy. Connecting with friends to raid is fun. My cousin got me in to this around Halloween and it certainly has been cheering me up. Sometimes I only play for a little but throughout the day. Other times I go out all night with my mom and fill up my bag and poke hunt. Oracle Cards - Tarot is more complicated. I want to get better at it, but for now, Oracle Decks help me on a spiritual level and they have certainly been cheering me up. Drawing - I have always wanted to be good at drawing. The beauty of some of my oracle cards actually inspired me to draw as a hobby. I haven't been doing it as frequently, but when I do, it definitely puts me in a better mood.

Much relate. When I was in college, I would often fill my studio space with flowers (roses and lilies) and watch them complete their cycle. When brown and shriveled, I would take them apart and photograph them, and then use those photos in my paintings. I still do it, 10 years later, and it fascinates me endlessly. I have a show to recommend, but it's polarizing - because it's an anime. If you're intrigued, I would highly recommend "Arakawa Under the Bridge." Here is the synopsis that's listed on Crunchy Roll: Ko Ichinomiya's family motto is "Never be indebted to anyone," but after losing his pants and falling into the Arakawa River, he quickly finds himself in debt to his savior, the cutely insane Nino (who happens to live under the bridge). To repay her, he vows to help her with her desire to "experience love." Along the way he'll meet the river's other residents, including a hot-blooded kappa, a Sister in drag, and a literal rock star. Sorry, Ko-when you fell into that river, I guess you really got in over your head! It's nuts. And so funny. I would also recommend the subtitled version over the dubbed one for more cultural nuance.

I loved this video, it felt like I was a flower basking empathetically in the joy you were reminiscing about, thank you so much ! Also, regarding series to watch, as a long-time fan of She-Ra and Steven Universe, and recent convert to Avatar and The Dragon Prince, here are my recommendations: - Hilda : it's aimed towards younger ages than the Dragon Prince but it feels genuinely wholesome and pleasing to watch, in a similar way to She-Ra or Steven Universe - Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts : probably aimed at a similar age range to She-Ra, it's centered on a teen girl in a future world, I felt very attached to the characters who are reckoning with themes of justice and belonging Edit : also regarding videogames, I feel the same, I'm currently burning out of my enjoyment of Stardew Valley after spending every evening on it for three months (it's a lovely farming / mining / fishing game where you can also play with your friends and family, it's really sweet)

I have four cats and my dachshund. I spend most of my time with my dachshund. My cats, which just of course go where they want, wander in and out of my room. I spend to much time in my room but do come out around mid morning and converse with my children and husband. Between covid and my heath issues if I didn't have all the animals and time with my grandchild I would be in a very bad place. That has been my seratonin.

My list: - started Re-watching the Glee. Its so spectacular and so over the top and I love it. I also love it because I now can watch it with a more critical eye that ten years ago. I started to watch it because I found that two of the Cast members have a recap podcast for it. They have only made it for the first season and haven't at least yet come back after Naya Riviera's death but I'm hopeful and in the mean time will only watch and listen one episode a week. The podcast is called Showmance if somebody is interested. - Maybe due to the first point.... I've been watching these rediculous flashmop proposals from like 2016! Where the friends and Family will dance badly and too long in a home depop and in the End there is a proposals. They are just so happpyyyy and joyfull! - My next door coffee house started making donuts every Friday and I got one last Friday. They only have take away since we are in light lockdown and I love visiting their lil takeaway window in the middle of my work day. - We started a book club with my oldest friends some time ago. I used the be the only bookish person so I freaking love talking about books with them. - drag race and drag race memes and podcast's and convos with other race chasers. - I got a five year diary. I had always thought about how cool it would have been to have one during university. Now I just wite on it who was eliminated on drag race and what anaversary of the pandenoc it is. But I feel nice to have some memories about this time. - I started a mentorship program for my university house. I got over 50 mentors, some who graduated during the 90's some I studied with, and now we are promoting it to current studets of political science. Our Alma manter has been in a really Bad covid situation and we keep seeing pictures from our old dorms and what the situation is (real Bad) so it feel nice to do something nice to them....

I’m so glad you loved Steven Universe. It’s one of my absolute favourite shows. Can I recommend Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts and Hilda, both animated shows on Netflix. Kipo is completed, but Hilda appears to be ongoing for now. 🙂

Another great animated series you might like is Over the Garden Wall. It really plays with stereotypical tropes and archetypes of children's literature and media. It's available on hulu.

Playing animal crossing kept me sane throughout 2020, and was able to chat and "see friends". I run around in my tulip field in my lirika matoshi strawberry dress. Let me know if u want the custom designs for it i can share it 😃 and also, flowers make me happy ALL THE TIME. Which is why flower planting was my responsibility on my shared island on animal crossing.

Ugh! That color looks amazing on you! I wish I could justify $200 for a sweatsuit because they look super comfy and really nice...that's just A LOT of money lol. Maybe if I win the lotto haha. Okay, back to the video.

No idea if this has anything to do with the shows you like, but I recently watched The Untamed on Netflix, and at the very least you will probably find the costumes quite beautiful

Thanks for another inspiring video! Flowers are lovely but please be careful with lilies and keep them away from Sadie as all parts of lilies are poisonous to cats. I have a friend who lost a cat due to it ingesting the pollen. Glad you enjoyed She-ra- it was a favourite growing up, x

I just started Kid Cosmic. It's cheesy and kind of cute! :) I think you would like it.

I’m not sure if you know but lilies are toxic for cats so be very careful with Sadie. I think a few other flowers are toxic for dogs and cats too so maybe look into that for future bouquets
