We went to Disney in October for Mickeys not so scary Halloween and then 8 days at the 4 parks (each park twice). - Disney raised prices on Genie+ right before we went - We used Genie+ everyday and found it was useful but felt like families without it would be ripped off as standby wait times are a nightmare now - Knowing the layout of each park is absolutely essential in using Genie+ because you end up running all over the place which really impacts family - Disneys “extra” costs really, really drained the magic out of the parks - Genie+ is making Disney soooo much money and lines stay stacked. There’s no way to stop unless consumers collectively elect to value their dollar more which historically isn’t likely. - Disney when I was a kid had incredible value, going back this year (I’m 32) with my parents, my own family and my brothers family was expensive and didn’t every moment feel “worth it”. Rides going down, extremely busy queue, Genie+ monopolizing your day by requiring constant phone attention, etc.. it was tough You’re my favorite KZbinr for keeping it real and my trip would have been a nightmare without your insights

putting this here again so more people can see it!! ✨ fun fact: the guy who invented the fast pass exclusively did NOT want it to be a paid system, in order to avoid a class-dividing experience for park guests. that being said, while the original fast pass system (the paper one) was designed by operations ( people who want to make the park better ) fastpass+ or what you know now as genie+ was designed by marketing (people who are trying to get the most money of just about anybody at the park with no regard to the park experience). They want everyone to feel like they have a shot at getting to rides quicker, when in reality, it’s creating mass crowds like this and stressing out guests. But who cares, they got your money. This is the happiest place on earth to who exactly?

I went to Disneyland California in October. It was at max capacity when we were there . At first we were bummed out because the park was to full , lines were long. But once we got going it was cool. We went with fast passes this time and it was so worth it. I don't think I'll go to Disneyland again with out the fast passes they saved our day big time I think

@@titiboucher2976 meanwhile at Disney’s Beach Club Resort its $1,220 a night compared to Universal’s Portifno Bay Hotel at $672 a night. And you get early park admission along with free express pass. Last time I heard, you couldn’t even get early admission into Disney even if you stayed at hotel. 🤷🏻‍♂️

If rides are the goal, I'm wondering if buying a MVMCP ticket is a better investment? Ignore the characters, parades, projection shows, fireworks, restaurants and shops, and just do the rides. The alternative is to buy a standard ticket and play the Genie+ game on your phone all day -- which doesn't look very fun or relaxing at all.

I 100% agree Disney is using Genie + as a money grabber. As we live in Florida but don’t have passes, we feel after the pandemic Disney has micro charged everything. I took my daughter for graduation and can say after needing to be on the app all day, the Genie fees and extra fees for certain rides, running from one side of the parks to the other..not as enjoyable as before. I could not see a family with younger kids being able to do this but also not enjoying it.

Just got back from Disney World with my 4 month and 7 year old. Disney Genie made it easier than the previous year when it was just the Wife me, and a 6 year old. Crowd levels have increased since genie plus. People are actively purchasing it, on repeat visits, meaning they find it more valuable than the money they spend on it.

And we also know it's worth it for those who don't, because they continue to come to the parks, and wait in those long lines. It's proven it is sustainable. Genie plus has nothing to do with the 60 day dining reservations, or the park reservations, or any of the additional planning.

@@DisneybyClark 50% of people that go to Disney World are from Florida. And about 80% of people that go to disneyland are locals. These are repeat customers. And then out of everyone else, most do research and understands what the wait times are. The best way to judge if people are having fun is by attendance. Are people willing to spend the money. So far the answer is obviously yes. It's fine if you want to believe that just not enough time has passed yet, but again, so far all the evidence points to it being successful.

@@DisneybyClark I do not like spending extra for what I could get for free. I just understand economics and the supply and demand curve. When demand is high, the cost goes up. You cannot logically think that Disney is too crowded and that it needs to lower its prices if you understand economics. In order to lower crowd levels, some price increase is necessary. And instead of just raising it for everyone, they chose a manner that allows people willing to wait, to not HAVE to spend that money.

A Florida resident annual pass is the same price as what my family if 4 spends to get into one park for one day. We eat all of our meals in the park and stay on property. Day guests spend way more and therefore are Chapek’s priority.

Hey dev I just spent the last week at Disney for my family vacation tbh it was still magical in my eyes but I did see a lot wrong. For a family of 4 to do genie + was not worth it. It was super crowded the whole week. Didn’t get a chance to experience some new things due to long waits and a 1 yr old. The ratio that the line moves from standby and lightning lane is ridiculous! All in all a great trip! Will go back again in a few years hopefully some things change for the better in the future. Your vid’s are great!

I was there that day (11.07.22) and I saw you @PCDev near the castle! It was our first visit we didn’t feel the magic at all because of the crowd. We arrived at the parking lot at 8:20 we were at MK only at 9:22!!! With genie+ and a LOT of strategy we did 14 attractions in total including 3 rides twice. Most of them were minor attractions my kids liked. We left at 8:25 tired and for me frustrated, so much planning for THAT! And yes we caught Covid we wore mask but not always it was hard with the heat and the crowd. I needed days to get over it

I’m in SoCal and go to Disneyland & DCA, a couple times a year. Finally got the Genie+ down. Will only go, if I can afford Genie+. The standby lines were 45 min to 90min on everything this past summer.

In your Disney land video, you talked about the parks reservation system when we visited in June from England, we bought fourteen-day ticket but could only use 7 days, so we lost out on 7 days left on ticket we can't use because they put expiry date on tickets so waste of money.

Another great video. I honestly feel that post pandemic everyone has just become the “I want it & I want it now” people. The entitlement has been extremely high. Everything has been more expensive look at housing (in Fl for example), car prices, etc. Everything has gone up. The problem is with not controlling inflation everywhere not just Disney. Also, people want Disney to be “fully open” with no reservations but yet complain when lines are long & it’s crowded. There’s no pleasing everyone. I enjoy going to Disney when I can. I walk around, watch shows, eat, drink, take pictures, etc & still have a great time. I’m just grateful that I am able to go at all. I think especially nearing thanksgiving, we really need to be more thankful & grateful for what we have & what we are able to do that others can’t. Many blessings everyone & happy holidays! ❤ 🙏🏽

I wish we could collectively convince consumers (say that 5x fast) to stop buying things like Genie+ and paying “extra” for amenities that should be included in the price of a ticket (which is already expensive). Took the family to Disney back in April of this year and what I noticed about the stand-by lines is take the time posted and cut it in half. I don't think they put high stand-by times so people will purchase Genie+ but I think they do it so you feel better about waiting for the ride if it gets done faster. I've noticed this at other parks this year as well (Hershey, Six Flags, etc).

The crowds are getting bigger, the prices are getting bigger and paying an upcharge for Genie+ to ride very few rides on crowded days is frustrating for those who can experience Disney World once a year or less. I miss the fastpass system that at least guaranteed a few rides without 60-90 minute wait times.

I've experienced Tron in Shanghai Disneyland several times during 3 different trips to that park in 2017 and 2019. It truly is a fantastic coaster, very smooth despite it being super fast and looks especially amazing at night time.

We just got home from WDW about 2 wks ago and we purchased the Genie+ with our park days and I was disappointed that there are only so many Lightening Lanes per ride. We had lots of park time and everything was gone half way thru the day. It's very frustrating and I am not sure if we will purchase the Genie+ for our next trip next month.

I've been waiting for Tron to open, before I visit again. But with genie plus, the high ticket prices, the long lines, the requirement to mobile order all your food hours in advance, I don't know that it's going to be worth it. It's a very expensive trip for me. I might just go to universal, or on a cruise, or even the beach.

When I was at Disney waiting to get on frozen I heard cast members say that they inflated the wait time to get more ppl to buy genie plus. Then they barely let ppl in the stand by line through to get on the ride. For every 30+ guest in the genie plus line they let like 4 ppl in from stand by. Even though the wait time was inflated and wasn’t as long as the inflated time, it was still a very long wait just because of how little they let ppl in on stand by. The ratio is horrible, sometimes it would be 20 min before they even let ppl in from stand by to get on the rides. I couldn’t even get genie plus on my phone because of the IOS required so I had no choice but to wait unless I brought a new phone just to get on rides, which would be crazy. Overall not a fan, the thought of paying extra to ride rides after having already paid way more than before for ticket, like hundreds more. I would not want to have to add additional money on my ticket like I’m at a carnival. Disney is starting to not give me theme park vibes but carnival vibes. Makes me reluctant to even go anymore and I was already on the fence about going again after hearing about all the changes. Does not have the same feel as it did years ago.

Hi Devin! We were there the same day you were and I said the exact same thing. Disney is overinflating wait times so people will buy Genie+. The lightening lanes were extremely long. As a passholder for about 20 years I refuse to pay any extra. The lines are ridiculously long especially for rides that never had any wait before like the people mover. Haunted Mansion had higher wait time at certain times of the day but you could usually walk right on more towards closing. Not anymore.

Dude, I was there two weeks ago and rode People Mover for the first time . We got stuck in the tunnel underneath Space Mountain! We were there for half an hour in the dark listening to that loud blasting music that they play exclusively For Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween party. Eventually, castmembers led us out on foot, crossing over the tracks and through the construction area for TRON. I think I'll be taking a break from Disney for a while. Left disappointed and felt taken advantage of with that new price tag. It would have been cheaper to get a park hopper pass and just stay at Magic Kingdom for the event. Unlike Universal for HHN, they don't exactly check who has tickets for the party and who doesn't if you're already inside Magic kingdom.

Iwent last year nov 14-19th with my fam and then a few days 2nd to last week of this past august with my boyfriend. I gotta say these past 2 times magic kingdom has been my least favorite! Crazy crowds and wait times and rides constantly breaking down. I was sad in aug because we didn’t have a lot of time and I tried 3x to get on haunted mansion and each time it was either down or broke down after more than a half hour (in lightning lane) in line. All the crowds and waiting is miserable to me. MK just doesn’t even have nostalgic magic for me anymore. My fav parks now are animal kingdom and Hollywood for sure

We have not purchased genie plus this trip and are having fun. You don’t need it if you are efficient with your time. During the very busy weeks I’m not so sure. Perhaps genie plus is just something to budget for.

I went in October and I didn't bought Genie +. My experience is that they can't deal with the amount of people on lightning lane and this causes the standby lane to be way too big and slow for the needing to attend the lightning lane first...Differently from Universal for example that they can deal with the fast pass quite quick without making the standby line suffer too much. Disney really needs to understand how to attend the lightning lane without making the rest suffer simply because they didn't paid :(

Because if so many people is purchasing the lightning lane and they are having to wait longer because so many people are purchasing it is it causing the stand by lane to go faster and to be shorter because of that. Yes a lot longer.. lighting lane is priority and if its a long line for them its even longer for stand by... its a must buy if you want to see all rides if its a packed park otherwise pick 2 good rides you really want to go on or multiple rides on less popular rides like mermaid and other low line attractions

12:04 your freaking me out man😂 I was in Epcot today and frozen was 75 minutes standby and that was exactly at 8:35 pm we got on the ride at 8:52 pm and I’m watching people with fast passes walking in they were surprised to so I thought maybe they intentionally doing it to let people purchase genie+ (another ridiculous move) plus today was kinda strange some of the cast members were really rowdy and unfriendly but I totally understand the stress that might Disney management are doing to them

Tokyo Disney will soon be limiting the number of people who can enter - all to improve guest satisfaction. Wish Disney World and Disneyland would do the same. It's not fun anymore.... WAY too crowded

No joke about genie plus. Just got back from Disneyland/ CA, decided to do standby on Cars. It was posted at 75 minutes. As we were walking through the queue and past the cast in place bottles, we were like no way is this 75 minutes. Cast members were on the loud speaker telling us that the wait is 75 minutes and to be mindful that lightning lane has priority. It took us 15 minutes total on standby. I don’t like the individual Lightning lanes, but I don’t mind paying for genie plus. But this was a real eye opener for us on how they’re literally trying to fool us.

I heard it from a cast members mouth that they intentionally inflate the wait times. I know it’s not the cast members choice to do that but the company. They have become very shady.
