Great little video...boy that cathedral is a beast! (In the best possible way😉)

Nice to see you back and the tower progressing nicely... Have a couple of Scalescenes kits and so far they look very nice indeed, although the instructions do warrant two to three passes of inspection BEFORE construction... Question for the Q&A is - "do you plan to add, or have already planted an object or otherwise which only a few in the know would get if they could see or hunt for it?" Example a Star Wars Stormtrooper on the platform, something not quite right in a window display or a build signage which has double-entendre? Anyway keep up the great work 😀

Hi Michael. For the pinnacles, have a search for plastic fir tree clips/rivets. They're the sort of thing used for fixing car interior panels. All sorts of shapes and sizes. You might be able to find some the right shape 😊

Hi Michael - The cathedral build is to your usual impeccable standard. I seem to have missed a fair number of your uploads due KZbin not notifying me. 😢 I look forward to your Scalescenes video. I have built a number of their kits - especially retaining walls in my partial station rebuild over the past 7 months - so well versed in their methods. Cheers Euan

Hello Euan! Have not heard from you for a while. I am still here churning out videos! :) Hope all is well with you... I've not visited Blackwood recently either. I will have to put that right.

The west window is a work of art! All shaping up nicely. A Scalescenes how-to would be welcome.

Thanks for the update Michael. You really have got your work cut out for the cathedral! Look forward to seeing your progress with both that and Chandwell. The Scalescene video will be interesting. Thanks for sharing. Roy.

Fantastic Michael - looking great - for the finials what about inter dental sticks as a starting point - the small sticks with rubber bobbles in you push between your individual teeth to clean the cavities - they have different sizes including quite small ones
@ChandwellАй бұрын
Two comments have suggested this - I think it is an absolute GENIUS idea - thank you! I will definitely go down this route, I think.

Would the top section of a rubber interdental brush work for the stone spikes on the cathedral model? They come in different sizes/thicknesses. I’m thinking of the Wisdom brand ones.

This is the most genius suggestion so far. Yes. These look like they may be perfect. Thank you!

Michael Thanks for this very varied update. Lots of different information. Hopefully the next building on Station Rd will develop as you like, remember you have had false starts on a number of the building on Chandwell. I like that Bradford Cathedral build is also on Chandwell time 11:41. On the idea for the detail parts of the top of the tower, what about some stacks of beads on wire core. There’s a crafter Bill here on KZbin who makes many models with beads. Also thought that some toothpicks or flosser style tools might also be of use. Thanks for update. Ian

The cathedral is coming on nicely, looking forward to the video on it. I do have a question, what was the most challenging model that you had to scratch built before you started building Bradford Cathedral?

Always a joy to see your skill at modelling these buildings.

Heljan 6003 is an N scale plastic church kit that has those exact finials you're looking for. I know you probably don't want to go that route but I thought I'd still throw it out there.

There has been a lot of interest in the Inkscape training video. Did you ever do that?
@varus5596Ай бұрын
Hi Michael, in your next video would you be able to show a few closer close-ups of the details of some of your work? At all the usual or camera viewing distances the results look good, but I don’t get a feel for the resolution you are getting. This is for interest.

Cocktail sword... That is a brilliant idea. For the nubs you may want to heat up a knife and make slight nicks in the side. Maybe able to do that with a scapple nicking at a 45 degree upward angle, then twisting horizontal before lifting. Just don't nick your fingers.... Ouch... My #11 got me. Regards, Don

Question: How often do you run trains on Chandwell? Do you currently (or have future plans to) run a timetable or similar?

Thanks for the update. Great work. A question, I very much like to be answered, is how to use Scalescenes textures in Inkscape. I’m able to import a PDF in Inkscape but I can’t use it as a pattern. All printouts are completely blank.
@ssearbyАй бұрын
Hi Michael just one question and not necessarily about your techniques but would you be prepared to make any of your inkscape PDF files available so we can copy and or base models on your designs?
@johnhough6470Ай бұрын
Hi, I have been watching your pod cast for over a year and really enjoy what you have accomplised. On todays podcast you were talking about the tiny things that go on top of the cathedral and how small they would be, Just a thought, would this be easier to do with 3d printing or would this be our of the question.

I like what you are doing it is so strange about the blue bit on the hour hand I know it is really like that, I just wondered why
@danielvalbuenahernando2187Ай бұрын
For the pinaculos why not make a template with inkscape in two pieces, half joined together and add some Tamiya putty as you did for the balls at the hotel? Watch your fingers! 😅 Good luck

I made spinikles by wrapping paper around a stick like cocktail stick foil palm tree. Cut the length of the “streamer” back spray it with hair spray. I preferred whittling a strip down the length of bbq skewer and curling that slightly and cut it. Admittedly I was working in oo gauge…..
@stevenflebbeАй бұрын
For the knobly bits on the top of the pinnacles: Get a wood dowel of appropriate diameter Use a pencil sharpener to bring them to a cone-shaped point Brush on a layer of glue or epoxy... something that will set hard While this is still tacky, use a toothpick to dab at the cone and raise tiny peaks of glue or epoxy And Bob's your uncle, you'll end up with knobly pinnacles I tried this on American N scale, and I think it worked well. It's a bit fiddly, but I know you can do fiddly.

Do you still think of Chandwell as a "railway layout with detailing", or has it become a "model city, including railway features" ?
@justinclayton3022Ай бұрын
Stone spikes are they finials. So if they are 2m tall what is the diameter? Must only be 1 or 2mm? How about a screw, and use dremel cutting disc lenghhways on 4 sides. Not sure if they would look any good. Single one may be OK, but getting them all the same might be tricky.
@daviemaclean61Ай бұрын
I like Don's idea with the hot knife or sharp scalpel. Or, knowing your skills with the blade, perhaps ever decreasing + or x shaped pieces of plasticard skewered on the sword and then painted stone colour. Perhaps a call to your 3D shopping trolley supplier? I'm sure you'll come up with something before it's finished. Cheers

Making the pinacles why dont you stack disks of card cut to shape like pennies
