I have all kinds of pencils sets that I did not like so they were in the closet. I wanted something new while I am stuck at home. I took out Crayola, Guang Hui and Marcos. After I sharpened the pencils and tried them on every piece of paper I owned. Well, was I in for a surprise. With the right paper these pencils turned into soft, smooth and pigmented good pencils. I challenge everyone to try those put away pencils and try them again. I have new art supplies and I did not have to go anywhere or buy more pencils.

Kmart has their own watercolour pencils that are $5 Australian dollars for twelve and they dissolve really well and are pretty pigmented. I compared them to my mum's Albrecht Durers and they were pretty similar. Thanks for the video!

Sounds wonderful. Being anywhere close to your mums that’s really nice. I wonder if the American Kmart uses the same manufacturer. It's a neat effect if you want them to do it. Unfortunately, I figured it out when I didn't want it to happen. I now test out any colored pencils that I have. It seems like a lot of the brand's made in China do it but The old Arteza pencils dissolve the most.

I am glad someone compared the Old Arteza wax pencils to the watercolor Arteza pencils. I tried the Old Arteza pencils and had a love-hate relationship. They seem to work well and then I would struggle to blend with them etc. They seem best for layering not just coloring one or two coats. They also would leave bits of pencil on the paper. I finally returned them but purchased the watercolor pencils. The difference is very noticeable is they are smoother to color with and no bits left on the paper. They seem to blend better as well. As you said that they dissolve great and are very vibrant.

I went to the Arteza site and all the smaller sets of colored pencils are sold out. Wonder if they are changing the pencils, so are letting the old stock sell out before introducing the new. This was really interesting. I love your comparisons, learning about pigments and the why and how of art supplies as well as the creative side. edited to add: Swatched out a bunch of colored pencils. The ones made in the Czech Republic (Koh i Noor and Blick) and Germany (Staedtler ergo soft) did not bleed until I scrubbed with lots of water, and then just a faint shadow. The Prismacolor pencil, oddly enough, bled a little with only a moderate amount of water and no scrubbing. The Marco Raffine, which I believe are from China, were quite water soluble. Nice to know.

Hello Lindsey and friends. Very informative video thank you. I purchased the 120 set in January this year and after testing my swatch sheet I found that they are water soluble. I chatted with Arteza over the web and they said it was due to the new formula; a combination of oil and wax. After watching several videos that report different responses from the company, I am now certain that the CSR I chatted with may not have known how to handle the call and spoke out of turn. Not appropriate; however, Bottom line, the pencils are great. I like them and would have just wanted to know that they dissolve in water before buying them to make a better informed decision. I have the 48 watercolor set from two years ago which I also like, and really wanted a large, traditional color pencil set. I hope this was helpful information. Best wishes to all.

I don’t get these new comps not being forthcoming with their information, how do they expect us to trust them and buy their products when they’re a wild gamble 😔
@thefrugalcrafter4 жыл бұрын
@@nessaillus you are right, it is a gamble because they have to source their products from around the globe rather than invest in experts to manufacture them in house like the big expensive art companies do (or used to, some companies send their recipies to Chinese factories to have them made cheaper and that's one reason we have been able to score some great cheap supplies as the factories know how to make better paint.) You can always choose the tried and true, you will pay more but you can be sure if you order them again you will get the same thing. I use the tried and true brands for work I may sell or want to keep forever but I'll try anything in a sketchbook.

WoW Lindsay, I just happened upon this video and when you said the Arteza colored pencils move with water, i was like “yes”. I recently colored stamps with them on Michaels 110lb Recollections paper and then I wanted to add some shimmer. So I tried to apply some of the crafters companion clear sparkle pen and to my SURPRISE” the color was moving. I was horrified because I had just spent hours coloring bunch of stamps and fussy cut the and putting a card together. I had to find alcohol markers to fix the color that was wiped away. I don’t use my Arteza colored pencils often, so was trying to use them and they act like watercolor pencils. I don’t know if I’m happy about it or disappointed.But thank you for confirming the fact the old colored pencils do move.

I got Arteza color pencil set based on good reviews. Colour payoff is amazing, they are quite soft etc. But for some reason I hate working with them. I am used to Polychromos where I can build layers of layers, of layers. With Arteza ... they feel a bit like wax crayons. There is so much wax in them, that it makes it impossible to layer different colors on top of each other. It all leads to muddy mess. I have them for 6 months now and they must be my least used color pencils. I tried to give them a chance multiple times, but no, they are not for me. I prefer Brutfuner over them by a lot.

I bought the original set when they first came out. I’m not sure how I found out they were water soluble. I made a video about it. No one watched .. That being said, be wary there is a vast difference between ‘ water soluble’ pencils & ‘water color ‘ pencils .. ~ I was surprised that Arteza didn’t know.. And now I’m surprised that the next edition of regular Arteza’s are NOT water soluble. 🧐 Good to know.. I wonder what the difference is ( if any) between color saturation ? And I wonder if the Art Gear guy ( UK reviewer ) discovered this secret .. 🤫

wax isn't normally water soluble. this was interesting. If I expected it to resist water I would be upset if it ruined a piece when I added water. Now we have to test all pencils for water-proofness. I remember reading a comment on one of the art channels that was upset with Arteza because they claimed that Arteza would bypass the usual Advertising and Marketing costs by sending free product to artists, and then the artist reviews it on their YT channel. Then they claimed or implied that the formula for the product would change after people bought them based on a review. Since when have marketers ever told the truth first of all? And it is a good way to save money and pass on the savings to the customer, as well as targeting your audience. But if they truly are changing the formulation of the products to make them LOWER quality, that is a problem. People will buy based on a review and get a different product. If you have an older video reviewing your older set of pencils, you may want to put a link to this one in the description.
@thefrugalcrafter4 жыл бұрын
Good idea, I have an old review for them. I think it is more the case of the factory they hired to make them changing their recipe. I'd say the quality is equal, it was just an odd thing.

😂 Just found this! So c. 2018 and before Artezas ("old") were water-soluble? And then 2019s were wax (as they should be)? And then *_late 2020s went back to water-soluble?_* (I'm the one who has the new _smelly watercolor pencils_ (48 ct), but besides the floppy trays and probably-pencil-coating smell, the pigment is fine). That's why I stick with Prismas: I know what I'm getting. My open stocks I repurchased a decade ago, though the font text was less "flashy", are consistent. (I can't SEE the new Prisma pencil numbers so well because for some idiot reason, they now use a glaring metallic background with a pencil number in the metallic! I have to take pictures and ZOOM, and with the 4-number pencils, desaturate the picture, to see the pencil number! The old way, stamping the pencil number in metallic on the barrel color, was great. I have a vision issue which requires dark glasses, so not being able to see the pencil numbers was pretty annoying. But I didn't switch because they're the same product: no unhappy surprises!)
