I come back to this video every now and again, and it feels ungodly depressing in the latter half of 2022. In a world post Scalebound cancellation, Babylon's Fall closing less than a year after release, and Bayonetta 3's pre-release hell and controversy over the terrible ending, it hits differently in the worst possible way.

What's going on with Platinum? Well, just from the description, i don't need to watch the video and can answer it. The A teams, with Kamiya, are working on Scalebound and Nier, whilst their smaller teams are making licenced games that don't have their big directors on it guiding them, on a smaller budget. Doesn't take a genius to work it out.

Seriously, a company makes a couple below average licensed games and everyone is ready to condemn the whole works. Licensed games are rarely a showcase of a developer's best work or talent. Usually it's just something that they take, crank out something acceptable, then send it off so that they can keep their doors open and/or expand.

The main reason why TF Devastation, Legend of Korra, and TMNT were so lackluster was because of the short develop window Activision gave Platinum. Considering that they managed to make decent games in such a limited amount of time is impressive in itself.

I really wanted to get TF devastation but I hear so much mixed stuff some say it’s a hidden gem others say it’s bad. I’ve only played a few games made by platinum Nier automata which is amazing and I played the demo for Bayonetta back when it came out and it was really fun I just never ended up getting the game yet. I also played Okami which I heard was made by the same people and honestly it’s one of my favorite games. In your opposite which platinum game should I get next I’m thinking about Astral Chain for my switch or should I start with Bayonetta on switch or wonderful 101 which people say is also mixed good and bad. I’m so confused on what to get. I love action games I grew up on ninja gaiden and devil may cry I also played platinum games metal gear solid game which is great but not my favorite
@josephabrams8529
@josephabrams8529 3 жыл бұрын
@@graymatter9431 Hard to say really. You mentioned that you liked Okami which is probably most similar to Wonderful 101 honestly with the wonderliner being similar to the celestial brush (Matthewmatosis has a pretty good review of it). Bayonetta is a more straightforward action game with excellent combat, just keep in mind that the first game has a lot of annoying BS such as two exceedingly long Space Harrier sections and a particularly bad turret section, but when you’re away from those and just doing the combat it’s fantastic. Bayo 2 is better in that regard, but it also makes things a bit too easy with the Umbrian Climax technique, but it’s also excellent and that remix of “Moon River” is too good. Astral Chain feels like a mix of the more grounded Nier combat with the multitasking of Wonderful 101 and general combat stylings of Bayo. It’s definitely got the most variety of the three with open world detective work being mixed into the action. Sphere Hunter has a pretty good review of it if you want to check that out. If I had to pick an order, I’d say start with Bayo 1 & 2, then move on to Wonderful 101, then Astral Chain.

Making games hi-res and high frame rate, is reducing the time publishers have to build actual game play.
@M0kuu

3 words : Big Publisher Overlords. Activision and Nintendo are notorious when it comes to overseeing 3rd party projects outside their core banners. You can hear alot of complains from Beenox when it comes to Activision's pig headed decisions and cut throat deadlines and as for nintendo, just, Dinosaur planet story all over again, xcept with a flight simulator as the base this time. As said, platinum could simply stick to their guns and do their own, new Ips to take the time needed for the creative juice to boil like past titles. Yet there's this odd feeling that even since they got some very cool and acclaimed titles out in the last few years, other publishers would like to get the PG spice in their idea/ips yet do not know how to properly mix it in. Whether its giving them enough time to get a solid concept or simply slapping on their IP to any prototypes in the oven, i guess they just dont get "it" yet. Either way, at least we can see that PG is far from reaching Rocksteady levels of concept rehashing nor have they drank the casual sauce bottle which Santa Monica studio is pouring on God of War 4. Still, we'll keep a close watch.

Hey GamingBrit, this is a great video. Regarding the mechanics of Transformers: Devastation, PLatinum have actually done a lot of great things in this game. They have increased the number of ways you can enter the Witch Time equivalent, with this new system it is possible to "Chain" time dilation instances together. For example, the Vehicle Attack action counts as a dodge, and the time dilation activation window plays out even if you cancel out of the Vehicle Attack animation. Another great addition is the "Parry Offset". The Parry system of Transformers is much tighter and more difficult than the original Bayonetta, and it now can be used to offset combo chains in the same manner as you could with Bayonetta's dodge. The system mechanics of Transformers Devastation are truly an evolution of what was established in the original Bayonetta, but unfortunately the brilliance of this new system is not communicated. I believe this is Platinum's biggest problem, even when they do awesome stuff they don't directly tell anyone about it. Communication of these game systems cannot be left to reviewers, it's not their job.
@TheGamingBritShow
@TheGamingBritShow 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah ever since Wonderful 101 and MG Rising had basic combat maneuvers locked away in the in-game shop I've felt Platinum have been doing a poor job at outwardly communicating a lot of their mechanics. l recognise Devastation is the best of bunch in terms of of Platinum's licensed output and would be up for exploring it more. One thing that turned me off outside of the IP was probably all the stats stuff as well, felt it was pretty over emphasised in comparison to the features you're mentioning.

Yeah, all the loot drops and junk kind of bugged me about the game myself but for the most part it isn't too in your face about it so long as you just equip whatever is more powerful at the time (menu managements a pain in the butt though). Also, I think the shooting mechanics are probably one of my favorite things in the game to be honest, those added on with the vehicle transformations made this game feel like the bayonetta x vanquish mashup that I always wished for, shame you didn't like them that much.

Serious Spike Sam as much as God hand isn't that bad of a game really, if you think it's better than dmc 3 you just have bad tastes in games man haha. The voice acting is wonky in god hand lots of the time and the animation isn't the best in the cutscenes, and it basically plays like the DMC games. Not to mention the music in devil may cry is fucking amazing. everything this game has, a devil may cry game has done better at some point. (Again not saying this game is shit, but it's nowhere near perfect) there's a reason most people don't like it.
@SlickAnims
@SlickAnims 8 жыл бұрын
Griffin Patrick The reason people may like it more than DMC3 is because its a parody of character action games. The story, voice acting, and settings aren't supposed to be coherent or good. The delivery of the story elements are intentionally bad to make fun of the over-the-top battles, story, and progression of most CA games. There's a niche of this kind of campy shit, so some people may like that rather than the more serious and edgy tone of DMC3. I've never played DMC3 though, so I'm not sure how the game plays/progresses/etc, but God Hand had pretty tight controls and a fun combat system so theres an argument made for both sides. His taste isn't bad, just different.

Maybe I'm just too optimistic, but even if a great developer puts out some mediocre or even bad games, I'm not one to give up on them. I think what really frustrates me the most though in recent years are those who have mental breakdowns when a company announces a game that they don't want, i.e Federation Force and Color Splash. Anyways, I don't think Platinum have gone sour, they've just made some poor choices.
@SuperGamer61499
@SuperGamer61499 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree. It's not like Platinum Games went downhill anyways. I just think they took a few mis steps but when does a developer never take mis steps? Besides, I don't even think their licensed games look too bad. Sure, the TMNT one I don't know much of but the Transformers one and Korra games look cool to me. I'm even thinking of buying the Legend Of Korra game because I love the show a lot already and it's 15$ on Steam. (I can't complain really because it looks better than most licensed games in general and it's cheap. It may be no Bayonetta but I rather play it than most license games in general. And that could also be because I already love the show it's based off on.) I haven't Starfox Zero but I don't it's as bad as this KZbinr is making it out to be. Yeah, I get that it is kind of a re-hash of 64 but I think the control scheme is not as horrible as he's making it out to be. The Level design was made in mind with the new control scheme so it's not inherently bad just mis-understood. Also yeah, I agree. The way some people treated Color Splash and Federation Force waz handled poorly. I get that they were frustrated but making petitions to cancel those games is probably the most immature and stupid thing I have ever seen. It's like when some idiotic fanboy of Uncharted made a petition to take down a certain website because they didn't give Uncharted 4 a perfect score. They were both stupid,idiotic and irrational cases.If they really were bothered by Federation Force and Color Splash then don't support the games then. It's not hard guys all you have to do is vote with your wallet. I do like that you have optimism because in terms of the Gaming Community it's a rare trait among Gamers nowadays. Most tend to make it doom and gloom when a developer or publishers makes a few bad games or hell a few mistakes. I think that any company good or bad can recover from a bad mistake/game if they take the time to learn. It's why I still have some faith in SEGA with Sonic. They may have made a lot ot mistakes but they at least are learining starting with Sonic Mania.

Yi Shai I guess you can argue that but really, I think some games like Legend Of Korra (in terms of their hate) IMO were blown way out of proportion. I don't even get what's so bad with that game. Sure, it's not the best of Platinum Games's work but it's a budget title.Of course it's not gonna be the best of their work. Honestly, after playing stuff like Revenge Of The Flying Dutchman & Jimmy Neutron (The Movie) game Legend Of Korra (The Game) compared to those is a god send IMO. I'm honestly confused why a lot of people don't like that game. My god, if they call that "awful" then IDK how they're gonna feel on games like the Jimmy Neutron (Movie) game. (Now that to me I consider awful because there's nothing redeeming about it.)

GUADALUPE MOSQUEDA It's the same problem the Metroid and Paper Mario fanbase have. If there's something they don't like, they'll continuously slam the door in the developers faces without having even played the game. And they expect to get a new main game after that kind of behavior? When I become an indie developer, if I end up making a game that becomes popular and then maybe the sequel is a bit lackluster or not what they want, and my fans start acting like that, then there won't be another game in that series until they've learned to cool their jets.

Exactly what I was going to comment. You could feel TMNT had to include some features because of a executive mandate (co-op, ai turtles on screen at all times). I really don't think licensed games are a good fit for them if they have to follow such strict guidelines. All their greatest games have had a unique vision that they were obviously very passionate about and had enough time to develop.

Speaking of kids, that reminds me a reason why we might be seeing those issues in those specific IPs (Korra, Transformers & TMNT which I haven't played yet) might be BECAUSE of the fact the games are being aimed towards younger audiences so they're simplifying the gameplay for less experienced players but trying to keep the more complex mechanics like parrying or dodging for older players? Just a theory on my part since keep in mind, Korra, TF & TMNT where all published by Activision & we all know by now that they tend to keep a close eye on stuff like that so I would say there MAY have been some Activision influence for those 3 specific games.

Henny Zhi eh, honestly? With the way 3DS games are, especially Nintendo ones it would have come up to the same really save like 5-10 bucks TOPS. Its not that big of a deal since I would have gotten both either way. But the fact you say that still bugs, I just don't see how abysmal it is. Even if it is just a regular remake. I don't have a functioning N64 to play my ol' copy on, and I REALLY like star fox. I mean we're talking about a StarFox game that ACTUALLY has you in a proper ship, with a proper mission & path set up... and not on frickn dinosaur planet w/that little bastard tricky screaming in your ear "I'M HUNGRY! WAAAA!" Or even StarFox Command which was..well subpar at best.

100% correct. But most people see a slowmo dodge (like the guy who made this video) and look no further before labelling it a Bayo clone. No one is going to look up Saur's channel and watch his awesome system guide, because that would require backpedalling after publicly judging the game as something it isn't. Not good for the internet ego. I get the same thing with Chaos Legion often.

TMNT was the ony realy bad out out of this games to be honest. Kora was pretty decent for what it is. They had werry low budget, and half a year development time.(It could have been waaaaay worse) Transformers was pretty good to be honest. Garneted they fifted the core combat from Bayo but they also tryed out new things like RPG like loot system + 4 playoble character is always neet. Star Fox Zero 's big problem were the controlls and it's pretty much confirmed that Miyamoto basicly forced them in the game disregarding what others said. And it only had couch multyplayer(like in 19990....) And TMNT.... WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED!?!?!?

I really can't see a reason to panic. I mean, what's the biggest problem of Star Fox? The controls and the fact that it's a remake. And why did those happen? Because that's what Nintendo wanted. And I honestly think it's a good game. Like, I had fun. And every game made for Activision has the problem of every game made for Activision that is not a CoD or Destiny. Like, it came out half a year after Devastation and just SOMEHOW a week before the second TMNT Bay movie. I wonder why did that happen? It's almost as if Activision told them to make a game in six months so that they can get a quick cash-in from the movie, like, you know, what Activision has been doing for years? Like, I'm gonna panic when Bayo 3 comes out and it sucks. I can't really blame them for doing what they are being told from the people who pay them money to stay alive.
@zoldator

Well than, I dunno, sorry for having fun with it?nd you're also super wrong about basically everything. Literally everyone I know who played 64 and Zero was talking about new bosses and the soundtrack has been completely remade. And it's a short game, just like 64 and every other Platinum game in history, because it's built for multiple playthrough. Like, all those alternate paths and bosses. And Zero is a remake because Nintendo wanted it. What would you want Platinum to do? Pull a Gearbox and lie to their publisher? They were told to make a remake, they made a remake, simple as that.
@zoldator
@zoldator 8 жыл бұрын
Dude, I literally said that Nitendo told Platinum to do a thing and Platinum did a thing. Like, wheter or not what Nintendo told them was right is not even the point. The point is that you can't blame Platinum for doing what they are being told to do. That's how they get money to actually function. And BTW, SFZ is not two hours long, it's four. And four still isn't a lot (tho I'm not quite sure if making a shmup longer is actually a good idea), but it's literally twice the lenght you're throwing here.

I think people have a tendency to reach at straws when they start complaining about star fox being remade again. Its such fallible argument.. the last star fox game was 10 years ago like are you kidding me? Before there was zero people literally was complaining about there not being a star fox game. Matter of fact I've literally seen people say "come on nintendo just give me the 64 star fox in hd" and now people are complaining about it? It doesnt make sense especially considering that when you say its just another star fox 64. There is so much wrong with that statement. 1. Nintendo push the story forward quite a few times. star fox command, adventures and assault are all games that push the story. Command isnt even a a remake like most people like putting it. It a completely different story. The only reason people say it is... is cause it uses the same classics system. A system put into place cause people literally bitch any change in the series takes. 2. How can you complain about a game that plays like star fox 64 when star fox 64 is consider the BEST GAME IN THE SERIES! Would you complain about dmc 5 playing like dmc 3? Of course not. What I think nintendo needs to do is what every the hell they want to do with the series at this point cause the fans are just going to find a new excuse to complain about.

While controls aren't the core of depth they still can add a lot. Fighting games would be a prime example, having to learn to pull off a special move consistently and under pressure many times in sequence is a big part of what makes the games. You take that away without adding more to focus stuff on like more movement options or enemies, and they suddenly become a lot simpler. Especially if the game has touch of death combos that under normal circumstances would take a lot of dedication to master. It also effects the strength, timing and just general properties of the move. An SPD that doesn't need a 360 will be weaker, not have as good of priority and less range because you are not having to pull of a large motion that will leave you open if messed up. You also see in games that try to lose these inputs stuff like cooldown on moves which means your tools are more limited because they are easier to use. Though to pull this off fighting games need good and accurate controls, if you needed a button to recenter your stick then the game would be busted.
@RyuGoomba
@RyuGoomba 8 жыл бұрын
zato/eddie from guilty gear is pretty much a perfect example of how that shit can work in fighting games lmao accurate inputs for using the shadow in tandem with yourself, knowing the priority system so you get the right moves at the right time, covering each other and even cool down times for when the shadow gets hit.
@ChoooooChoooTrain
@ChoooooChoooTrain 8 жыл бұрын
RyuGoomba Notice the caveat " in tandem with yourself." This applies to what I said when "without adding more to focus stuff like." By having to control eddie while doing other stuff that balance is still in play, you set him with a qcf but then work together so make it a little easier for you Plus puppet characters are a very specific type of character. You can't really say well it works for the 5 eddie moves (ignoring all the other moves Zato has) so make everyone like that.
@RyuGoomba
@RyuGoomba 8 жыл бұрын
you're adding a second element to your pressure and gameplay, one that isn't independent and is based on your movement and control so that literally adds complexity to how you control the character. not to mention, without eddie, zato's pressure and options are severely dropped. can't do 3 to 5 blockstring fuzzy mix ups anymore unless you got eddie on board. of course it wouldn't work with other characters that aren't designed like that and it's a way of him that archetype unique.
@ChoooooChoooTrain
@ChoooooChoooTrain 8 жыл бұрын
RyuGoomba I can't tell if you think I am disagreeing, cause I'm not seeing as he fits into the initial caveat stated in that you have another element to work with now so complexity is not lost. It doesn't contradict my op, especially cause as I think you agree he is a specific archetype

It hurts each time to realize it, but I agree with you. PlatinumGames is a good developer, but their creativity isn't in demand, it's the name big publishers want. Because they know of Platinum's rather positive reputation, they hire them for projects, but none of the licensed games have that creative spark. I can only guess about that, but it's probably a mix of publishers wanting a "safe bet" and not allowing much experimentation, and Platinum also needing the money to fund their own projects. After all, Bayonetta 2 was their last original game.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind if Nintendo brought back the on-foot gameplay of Star Fox Assault. It wasn't as good as the Arwing gameplay, by far, but it was perfectly playable and didn't feel awkward to control in my opinion. Granted, I wouldn't want an ENTIRE game like this, because Star Fox Adventures already did that (which was an alright game at best), but it is a gameplay style I feel fits the character of Fox and could be relatively enjoyable with tightened controls & new bells & whistles

One of my favorite things of assault was the on foot play actually. It was actually surprisingly well polished and added a new layer of arcadey fun to the entire game itself. PlatinumGames is doing the best with the money and development time they get from the particular pubilshers. It's that easy. The Legend of Korra wasn't as good as other PlatinumGames titles because Activision wanted to push the title out of the door as fast as they can just to make some money off of PlatinumGames' good status when it comes to fast paced action titles. I don't think your video was made to blame PlatinumGames at all, at least if I got you right. But specially for the Korra case, Activision should be taken to task, not PlatinumGames.

As a longtime Star Fox fan, and as someone who actually waited 10 years for a new entry in the series, it frustrated me to see Star Fox Zero go from my most anticipated game to probably the most poorly executed Nintendo game... maybe ever. The argument in this video is a flawed one. Here's what's going on with Platinum. Their games, while great, never sell. So in order to keep themselves in business they need to make deals with certain publishers. When Platinum first started they had a deal with Sega, now they have a deal with Activision. Anyone can see Korra, Transformers and TMNT were not meant to be the same experience as MGR, Bayonetta or Vanquish. They are low budget licence games. Anyone going into TMNT expecting Bayonetta quality was asking for disappointment. This is also a good time to get familiar with the names of the people directing these games because it could be very helpful. Remember how you said Transformers despite it's faults was still a pretty solid game unlike Korra and TMNT? Well it was directed by Kenji Saito, the director of Revengeance. TMNT and Korra was directed by Eiro Shirahama who did...TMNT and Korra. It's their B-team, given a shoestring budget to make a quick licence game right before the new season of Korra or the new TMNT movie comes out. Star Fox Zero is all Miyamoto's baby, sure Platinum may of been involved with the development, but it was all done under the watchful eye of Miyamoto. But let's say for the argument of this video that the failure of Star Fox Zero was the fault of Platinum. So what? Platinum has ALWAYS been inconsistent. While people praise Bayonetta 1, 2 and MGR, most people find MadWorld, Infinite Space and Anarchy Reigns (game which I love personally) mediocre, which were made at the same time. Did people make video about "WHAT is GOING ON at PLATINUM GAMES"? No. Hell even The Wonderful 101 is a divided game critically and people love that game. Platinum has always been inconsistent because that's how they stay around. They need to do these smaller budget titles so they can afford to do their bigger games. You want more Bayonetta, MRG and The Wonderful 101? You're gonna have to put up with Star Fox Zero, TMNT and Koraa because that's the only way you're getting them. Now if Nier Automata and Scalebound come out and their disappointing then we can panic. But until then choosing to focus on their quick budget games to deduce where of not Platinum has lost it's luster is a waste of time. Just like this essay of a comment. Oh well.

All studios try and retain certain higher up guys, and while they wont always leave them on staff. If every studio had completely different entire staffs between every single game, you would never see a single bit of consistency in any studio out there.

Rainbow Dashtruction You misunderstood. They were still Platinum employees, but each project had different people on each team. Take directors for instance: Revengeance was Saito, W101 was Kamiya, Korra was Shirahama, Bayonetta 2 was Hashimoto, Transformers was Saito, Star Fox was Hashimoto, TMNT was Shirahama, Nier is Yoko Taro, Scalebound is Kamiya. Additionally, the planners, programmers, artists, animators, etc., were mostly different from project to project. They didn't leave Platinum, but they didn't all work on the same game even if a game had the same director. Very few games have the exact same people working on every game. Compare the credits of a game in a series. You will see a lot of overlap, especially on smaller projects and semi-sequels like Street Fighter Alpha 2 and 3, and even more so in smaller companies. But there's nearly always a different make up.

Jana Höning Music I was hyped for the game that I pre-ordered the game that along with star fox guard and when I got the game I really enjoyed it. Gameplay was fun, graphics were good, and it was enemies and bosses (mainly Andross for me at least) who were difficult which it made fun. I was great game

Honestly I actually really enjoyed Transformers Devastation. As a fan of the subject matter it manages to be a pretty good homage to the original G1 era of the franchise. And as someone who isn't amazing at spectacle fighters I like the simpler combat mechanics that still have some depth. I mean it's not the best game in the world but considering Rise of the Dark Spark, it's one of the better TF games (although nothing will beat War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron in my mind).

Metal Gear Rising Revengence is still a kick-ass game. Raiden got to star in the game he deserved, my only complaint is that the story mode could have been longer, but other than that it was awesome. Scalebound looks pretty cool, too bad its an X1 exclusive.

I feel like all 4 games mentioned are just games that Platinum has made for third parties to put some money into the bank. I mean I love Platinum, but their games are hella niche, they aren't raking in loads of money and we have to remember that devs need to eat too. Its shitty but honestly can forgive these crappy games designed for a certain playerbase so long as their main IPs maintain the quality we've come to expect.

IT's not just the flimsy licensed games either. MGR has a mountain of problems that it just barely overcomes, and Bayonetta 2 allegedly goes completely AGAINST the possibility of high-level play with enemies that break combos and can't be relaunched populating much of the enemy roster.

Platinum has done some great work but I honestly find their games boring and mindless. Bayonetta was the first one that made me yawn with it's trope bosses and level jumping that had no meaning or sense. One minute I'm in a medieval castle city, the next I'm running on space rubble on a temple in the middle of space, then I'm running up a metropolitan building (VERTICALLY) to fight a boss that I had no idea why he wanted to kill me, nor I him. They just like their graphical set-pieces and have no idea how to do narrative or storytelling, two things that require a bit of brains and not just a top notch graphical team. They are the videogame equivalent to Transformers, all shine and no substance.

"videogame equivalent to Transformers, all shine and no substance" A bit of an unfair statement to make, there, considering a bit of in-depth look would prove it wrong. You must have only seen either the old cartoon or the Michael Bay movies - which, trust me, are NOT the best examples of Transformers being the juggernaut of a franchise that it is.

You're comparing apples to oranges in this complaint. You're expecting Japan to understand social reasoning and understanding relatable to the US and EU? Very few Japanese story-based games get romance right! Just to be a cynic, the amount of apathy and how awful their adult female main characters tend to be that aren't either sex objects(male gaze archetype)and/or emotionless waifus with personalities as interesting as cardboard just to name a couple of recycled archetypes. Japan is a nation that doesn't embrace socializing; full of self-reserved people and salarymen with repressed childhoods, and a flourishing market toward those who are afraid of people. So expecting characters to properly interact with each other instead of relying on anime archetypes/overused tropes is a long shot. Platinum Games is praised for how they handle gameplay. Responsive controls, combat that feels satisfying, over-the-top fights, etc. Story and good dialogue be damned, they are a Japanese company. Mind you, I'm not disagreeing with you, I love good storytelling, good characterization and interactions, but I don't overlook how PG got its reputation.

Solid video, bro. You've really developed a solid voice as a critic. One issue I'm surprised you didn't address is competition. Who else is making these kinds of titles right now? Hack and Slash beat em ups are only their thing, and no one else is competing with them. As a result, they have no reason to evolve or grow. Sadly, another issue is money. Platinum isn't Sega or Capcom. They don't have the money to work on a game for three years. They are actively tied to publishers' whims, be it Nintendo, Activision, or Sega. Take care man.

Transformers Devastation is actually better than people give it credit though. I mean, the boss fights and the challenge missions (which are 50) are really good and people just gloss over them. It's a shame the game reuses environments and the campaign is rather short (4-6 hours depending on your skill). But it's one hell of a ride, that much I can guarantee. :) I actually like it more than MGR *hides behind flame shield*.

@KazuyaMithra 8 жыл бұрын
lol you're opinion is perfectly just. Transformers is amazing game. Stuff like environments and length are superficial. Its a game so really its as long as you're willing to play it. Its system is a really great evolution of Bayonetta's. The god awful community for these games lead you to believe any of that stuff is important though.

Drakengard was a incredibly serious dark and twisted fantasy saga, it was a one of a kind and still today is.
