I remember my dad bought me the Chronic and told me to listen to it on my walkmen portable CD player with my headphones so my mom wouldn’t know he got it for me lol.

I think I'll be done with modern console gaming once all-digital becomes the norm. I'm happy with my physical library of retro games. I collect on the down tick of a console generation when everything is on the cheap, but that hasn't been the case with console games lately. They're really holding their value. Can't even pick them up for cheap at the flea market anymore either.

I agree with you 100%. We will get a cooling off time for retro games once the economy resets (doesn't matter who gets elected). This time will be the best time to buy the rare and most expensive games, due to sell offs. Once the economy stabilizes and digital era takes over, physical media will shoot up in price. Plus future generations becoming Nostalgic (PS3, XBOX 360, WiiU era) will make those games in your video even more expensive. Anything that's not available digitally will become super expensive...

Trump said he will reduce vintage games by 30%. Make games affordable again.

I was a game dealer for over a decade, and started winding my business down a few years ago because sales volumes fell off a cliff. My sales came to a screeching halt back in 2019 and never really recovered. I was stuck sitting on a humongous inventory of thousands of games I could not sell. The sad reality is physical media is on its deathbed, video games included. There's 2 things destroying the classic games market. The first being the advent of emulation, and the 2nd being a higher availability of games thru digital platforms. There are 2 types of gamers, the collectors, and then theres the casual gamers who don't care to collect and just want to play games. The casual gamers aren't going to pay for a game they can otherwise play for free. Its not going to be 10 or 15 years from now when these games become digital only, we are already there. Almost every major console has now been emulated to some degree. Despite the decline in sales, many prices of rarer, more sought after classic titles have held their prices very steady, while the more common titles have fallen off a cliff. Something to note about those older consoles is that over time, less and less people have them. How many American households still have a working NES today? Not many. PS2 games are a hard sell too because they are so well emulated now that no one wants or needs to buy them anymore. I had to sell off thousands of PS2 titles for bargain bin prices just to get rid of them. Over time, more and more of these consoles are going to disappear from American households, and all but the rarest of titles will essentially become paperweights.

If we really have an entire market crash I'm buying some cib snes and Genesis... I missed the window for picking those up 15 years ago.

Obscure/niche titles tend to maintain value or go up. The only time I've really seen prices fall is when a modern remaster or collection comes out. Which is happening alot more than I thought it would honestly...

I think In 7-8 years nobody will care for these games, get rid of them while you still can. I have downsized my collection to only 350 games and even that is too much ! I realized that while I was talking to few friends of mine and when I was telling them a story about how I found a complete Gamboy Ciolor boxed for 20 euros they didn't even knew what a Gameboy is...and they are born bvetween 1995 - 2000. I am 40 years old and I barely care anymore!...BUT I love your videos :)

That will be the test. Once the people who had nostalgia for old games fall off in the next decade, then we will see what is truly collectible.

Why should people get rid of them because other people won't care anymore? I don't appreciate my collection for any other reason than it's my childhood, my favorite hobby, and a constant in my life. If the market value of my collection drops, I'll still enjoy gaming.

The next BIG one will be the Nintendo Switch... All these kids who grew up with it, will try to hunt down stuff they are nostalgic for... Nostalgia rules ALL types of collectibles and games...

RIP Aaliyah! Her music got added to streaming a while ago, but Dr Dre had an exclusive deal with Apple until a couple of years ago so albums like the Chronic were locked to that platform. It was annoying plus there are still songs like Deep Cover that have never been on streaming services. That's why it's important to still keep this physical media and I think it will stay because of things like blu rays and dvds. If those stop being made or sold then I think all physical media is at risk of being discontinued.
