KOF2000 had a striker system that works similar. People ended up using the same 5 strikers out of about 50+. I hope the same doesn't happen here.

I highly doubt it'll be as terrible as in KOF'00, because many of the strikers enabled infinites. MK games often have a nice balance to avoid those... It doesn't mean some will end up being a complete annoyance.

Luckily NRS has shown to do a ton of polish near launch and is usually pretty willing to hear us out within reason. Im excited to see how it feels in 2 months

yea this build for the stress test is probably old because they dont wanna spill everything quite just yet the beta in august is gonna be the most telling so some stuff might have already been addressed and we just havent seen it yet. figers crossed.

No offense but hear us out within reason ? Mk11 they def didn't listen to even the most annoying thing breakaway! also never did a true final patch didn't even fix the glitches or d2 kb triggering on s1 punishes meaning people could spam d2 after a poke and get between 20-50 peecent

The kameos could use more character. They don't talk/interact. They come do their thing and awkwardly leave.

@@Hinokami777 the reason we cant is bc the devs dont wanna feel they wasted development time. So they’re forcing us. Also bc they know most players wouldnt even pick kameos if given the option. This mechanic was also completely ed’s idea. The team just wanted to give each character an assist move. Boon last minute said “i want to give every player the same opportunities” so they changed it to the kameo system. Since he’s “creative director” im sure he’s just forcing us to share in his vision. Wether we agree or not.

I definitely am glad that crazy cool combos are back, but I do have to agree on your concerns with the movement speed and how slow everything is.

Based on what Ed said, the game itself is going to surface around the kameo players. I hope they speed it up a bit and improve the dash. I don't really like the floating mechanics but I'm sure they'll clean it up.

Mk11 dash was slow as dogshit at launch and was fixed fairly quickly. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets sped up by launch if not in one of the first patches

i feel like the floaty jumps are good it forces neutral to be played because if some one loves jumping its a free punish every time forces it to stay on the ground stops bs like jacqui and kabal imo i loved the floaty jumps the floaty jumps are starting to expose lots of ppls neutral.

It’s sad because I guess I can understand them getting rid of running from mkx because it makes it so the skill floor is much higher but the expression and movement of mkx was just something else and I loved it. Hope to see it again one day. Still hype for mk1 but I was hoping for something a little bit quicker

How tf does removing 99% of neutral and spacing make the game harder? Run button is definitely a scrub friendly mechanic, which is why the more casual players seem to like it. Edit: ignore this comment I misread what the original comment said

Casuals would prefer less and I seen none of them run because they don’t know how to. They eat up this slow do barely nothing and take 50 off gameplay. So do the “pros” it’s easier money like this. They are only listening to the wrong people and ass lickers. The game will be old fast again will be sucessful despite anytbing anyway. And we’ll sadly be stuck waiting for the next nrs game for 4 years.

I think that once release check is turned off, the input delay is fixed, and dash canceling is added, this could be a SUPER interesting game. Slow and simple neutral but a vast and complex combo system sounds really interesting. While I do miss the breakneck pace of MKX, I am super interested to see how this one goes.

The main thing I want tweaked immediately is the speed of grabs/throws. The animations take like 10 seconds each, that's way too long.

It would be genuinely absurd if MK1 doesn’t release with faster movement overall. That is THE number one criticism and there’s no way NRS hasn’t taken notice.

That's the problem with mk9 and x they were too widely unbalanced and janky making it jarring for competition and for returning players/ new comers to enjoy. 11 by far was the best gameplay wise because the pace was slower exactly why it's had the longest life span . They are doing the same with sf6 getting a different audience for longevity instead of a short 2 year life span.

"Returning players" lel It was slowed down because it wanted to try and recapture old school mk style of gameplay and to attract newer players because of the skill ceiling being "too high" with mkx. Nothing about supposed balancing issues let alone "jarring competition".

I can understand wanting things slowed down to get an understanding on what's going on. Should defend myself? Should I go aggressive? Maybe I can do this or that. But at the same time, it's literally the speed that makes fighting games what they are. 85% of the of time is dashing back and forth, jumping, shielding, everything to get an open for an attack or to make a distance between you and the opponent to quickly plan something out. 2013 Killer Instinct is a perfect example of speed and combos and is literally the most entertaining thing to watch. I hope this changes for MK1. Having more options to work with is a huge step since MK11. Now they just need to speed it up just a tad bit more.

This game is turning out to be exactly what I didn’t want it to be. Imo MKX was going in the perfect direction. The drastic switch to the slow neutral style of MK11 turned me off of it.

Kenshi had people super stressed! I could not figure him out during the play days time we had. But sitting down and getting time with him and seeing sonic fox do sonic fox things opened my eyes!

Nah, I've seen plenty of 45-50% from all four characters. Liu Kang just seems to be the most accessible character, which makes since, considering he's technically the main character of the whole franchise lol

I think the amount of endlag some moves have especially when finishing strings and throwing projectiles is a big gripe personally. The awkward pauses between the Time a move ends to the point where the next person can act feels so sluggish to me

I Think at NRS polished cinematic feel is taking priority to fast paced action and quick decision making maybe because it was hard to follow and they want it to be fluid? not sure but thats my hunch. The kameo system is interesting but weird how they always overbalanced certain things in NRS. Max is right they need to let things just rock with mechanics

​@@ZombifiedBuizel This doesn't actually happen, not that way. Rebalances happen regardless of the style taken, because balancing is important for fighting games. Also, Killer Instinct, while not perfectly balanced, did prove you can get pretty damn close to a very well-balanced game. MKX got there as well. SF6 is currently pretty well-balanced also. Things are still tuned here and there but it is a pretty balanced game already.

Fast-paced action is pretty much what makes it fluid, I'd say. MK9 and MKX have a fast pace which makes them very difficult at a high-end, however, that fast-pace also greatly facilitates a casual who is just playing against CPU or against a friend.

Last time in mk11 when people complained about the dashes it was fixed, so they have a precedent of doing what we want them to. If everyone gets a good dash/wavedash like kotal, fujin have in 11 this game will be perfect.

Mk11 is still slow as crap compared to mk9 and mkx. They didn’t fix it entirely. The jumping is still floaty and slow. And if they knew our complaints on mk11 4 years ago why didn’t they learn ? They give us another slow game at launch knowing we don’t enjoy it lol.

@@Hinokami777 they did listen because the biggest complaint was combos & combo options & they definitely rectified with air combos & Kameos The game will speed up at launch or a dash similar to 9 would be perfect But with all due respect a lot of people like you 💩 on 11 & yes I had my complaints too but game sold 15 million copies which is insane numbers so clearly many people liked it too

​​@@Tek195it was the best fg graphically with a decent story campaign and released around a time where other fgc games were slowing down or just straight up had bad releases alongside releasing an expansion that straight up expanded said decent campaign and this not yet taking into account other factors Its not surprising that the game sold well but the problems persists and deserved the shitting. Trying to downplay them at just soulless "lel 15 million copies sold" when it doesnt even translate to actual 15 million active players is just being dumb

Street fighter 2 the most popular fighter ever do you think all the sales were different people? Like all SF2 sales were different to SF2 turbo? No of course not it’s ludicrous but it’s always different standards when held to MK but love to 💩 on it because it’s the biggest fighting game franchise mainstream without a doubt. Once again there was some things I liked about it and some things I didn’t but I won’t begrudge people who loved it maybe they enjoy a different style to you but to call a game soulless it’s a very insane comment. I love SF too but SF5 was not a a good game but people like you don’t bring that up do you? But again I don’t begrudge anyone who likes that game I understand it but doesn’t get that level of hate & if you want to talk No soul SF5 barebones release with no arcade mode is the epitome of it but once again unfair to say that about a revered franchise people worked hard to make

I have to be honest, the stress test made me less excited and interested in the game. Watching people stream it, I was just getting really bored with how slow the game looked and my attention just kept going elsewhere

I was bored when watching the MK 1 gameplay, It's so odd due to the fact that Street fighter 3rd Strike and 6 are slow fighting games yet I'm glued to the screen when it's being played.

I came back to mk when mkx came out. The 1 thing I LOVED about that game was the ability to run cancel. I only played characters that had the ability to do that which was quite a bit of the roster. It was a learning curve that felt amazing when executed properly. I dont kno shit about fighting games really, but mkx for that 1 simple reason will go down as #1 for me. I doubt I'll see it again being a lot of people said mkx spoiled us, but if it ever did ide be there executing those sweet run cancel combos and fake outs!

I remember when I said “it looks slower” in another video’s comment section , everyone jumped saying “you’re blind if you think this is slower then MK11.” I’m not saying it’s bad but I’m glad my eyes aren’t deceiving me.

He literally bitch that game for years until it was good on later season but you can see how max disappointed on that game even it has potential. Even on SF6 alpha build when he played that game he has bad impression on that game at first but it changes the longer he plays. he is scared that this is going to be SFV state again.

This is why I took the initial impressions people had a week or two ago with a grain of salt.. this is the exact same pattern as 11 - hype at new game, excitement about a new direction with a little concern - concern grows on next exposure to the game etc etc - im not a die hard MK fan, i do enjoy the games but I dont think i'll be buying this at full price though after MK11, will wait for a sale.

It's crazy too, because mkx had so much combo potential, not just long combos, but you could pretty much string moves together as with creativity, then since mk11 it's been "find those one or two good combos and use those"

The idea of DLC Kameos definitely excites me, since it'll allow post-launch releases that can unlock new combo routes for the entire cast.

I really like the art style of this game. Combos look crazy too and so much possibilities and creativity. Stages are gorgeous. Overall I have more positives than negatives but dashes must be improved.

Hey there! I have been a lurker in this channel for years now and played MK and Injustice as my main games for the past 10~ years. SF6 is the first time I picked a SF game and I was surprised with how diffefent it felt. It feels like SF is more focused on the fundemental of fighting games (like frame counts, movement, etc) and MK is more on the flashy things as Kombos and special moves. I would love to see a video of you going over the differences between the those two big franchises. Not a "which is better". It could be super fun and interesting!!!

I'm still not sold on Kameos yet, Kitana for example is extremely limited without the help of Kameos and I'm sure that's going to be the case throughout the roster, just makes the character itself feel really limited.

This is always the problem I see with developers wanting new players and retaining core gamers. If the mobility is too hyper seasoned players have no issue but new players struggle and vice versa. I am sure we will get an adjustment to the dashing to bridge the gap and please everyone.

I hope they make it faster and give more freedom to the kameo system. Those are definitely my biggest concerns; Speed in particular. MK9 and MKX have a speed which makes it excellent.

im a bit worried about the slow speed. having a fast movement speed is key to a good feeling fighting game. throwing a bunch of stuff on screen is cool but the fundamental elements of the game need ot be good

My favorite thing in fighting games is whiff punish. It's extremely satisfying. I wanna navigate the screen faster than the opponent and whiff punish their attack. I hope we will have kharakters like this. I like the Scorpion a lot in MK11. His screen control was good with teleport and air grab then he had b1 and b2 for whiff punish. It was fun af. You could also cancel b1 and b2 with tp cancel if you are fast enough. The playstyle is hard because you need to be precise but it's fun.

IMO the only thing that needs some slight adjustment is the movement speed. Other than that, everything’s great. the combos, Kameos and graphics are all amazing.

One thing I like about mk1 compared to mk11 is that the fatalities no longer pause/ freeze in the middle of the act. It has a better, more dramatic effect in mk1.

At this point it seems like the dash is only in the game so we can't call them out for not having it. Just give me a dash that covers significantly more distance covered by the walk in half the time. No run or telleport needed.

It’s weird. Using those kameos that stop your character is basically as if you were just using a special move, except just borrowing from another character. If you could move while they still did these moves than it doesn’t really feel like a replacement, but again a combo extension

Yeah this sucks a lot. They could at least have made tag team throws so that you get a special animation depending on the two characters. But just making the kameo do the throw while you are doing nothing is..bad

Theory off the top of my head: Maybe the moves are slower so they can try to make the animations look better. I always figured people didn’t like MK animations because having short, quick fighting game attacks looks weird on hyper realistic character models.

The complaints about animation actually don’t have much to do with either speed or character models, but more to do with the rules of animation as a discipline, e.g. the rule of exaggeration. It’s hard to explain but there’s a video out there that breaks down why NRS’s animations suck in comparison to other fighting games.

I definitely agree about the kameo system - set a limited number of uses per match and do away with breakers tied to meter, instead you call in a kameo to break while you're being hit. Essentially just make it more of a trade-off between using your assist as damage or a break rather than a meter that consistently charges which encourages you to use it as often as possible.

Having a limit to how many Kameos you can use would feel a lot like Krushing Blows. It would feel way too limiting, and would discourage you from using them. Given that it's the main gameplay gimmick of MK1, they definitely shouldn't be discouraging you from using it.

I disagree with the idea of sacrificing combos. I would like to see mobility sped up a bit, but I don’t want the trade off to be the combos. If you are a hardcore player, I can see how combos might not be the top priority, but I am no pro player, and I keep coming back to MK purely for all the cool shit you can do, and combos is such a HUGE part of that, especially now that they’ve opened up and we have all these Kameos to play with. My mind is thinking “I wonder what I can do with Ermac and Drahmin?”, “How might Havik and Stryker work as a team?” And “I need to try out Ashrah and Motaro, what the hell is that gonna be like?” I want to keep those combo options open, because if we do, there’s at least a chance that any pairing might be able to knock out some awesome stuff. I’d like to be able to pair up characters I find weird or interesting and see what happens. I wanna Ermac Teleslam people all over the place and finish them off with one of Motaro’s insane full screen knock back projectile attacks. Now, do I want some pacing improvements? Yes. But I don’t think we have to sacrifice combos for that. I wouldn’t sacrifice anything in that regard unless absolutely necessary. Watching SonicFox knock about people with Kenshi has been too enjoyable, and I wanna learn to do that shit once I get more time with the game and a practice/tutorial mode. And I don’t know if it make me an odd one out, but I stuck with MK9 for a long time because of the long accessible combos. I didn’t stop until MKX rolled around. Then I stopped playing MKX until the DLC rolled around, and only rarely came back to it once I got tired of those. Same went for MK11, to an even greater extent. Mind you, I say this as someone who has been loyal to MK but primarily plays offline, local multiplayer matches with friends. I suck as soon as I drop into an online match. I’d only win a scattered round and MAYBE a match against better players back during the MK9-MKX days. And it’s only gotten worse in recent years as aging and brain fog seem to have rotted my brain. Combos are about as exciting as MK gets for me. 🤷‍♂️

Yahhhh not a fan of the cameo system. The ONLY thing I’ve been impressed by is the graphics/loading animation, and that’s just a natural progression. Hopefully it improves over time but I’ve never been less excited for an MK game.

A slow neutral combined with long combos sounds like exactly what I don't want from a fighting game... I'm okay with a fighting game with a slower, more deliberate pace where the emphasis is on your decision making in the neutral, but then that's what I want the game to be about rather than also having crazy long combos that last up 10 seconds and seem to be your primary source of damage.

I prefer it slower! Older, slower reflexes now. More mind games, neutral, and I think it's intentional. So it feels more grounded, realistic, heavy hitting, allows you to see and appreciate the combos and animations. In contrast I hate SF6. Most people just mashing these cartoony fast punch pokes etc.

Kameos sound interesting in concept, but kind of meh in current execution. Ed described it as extra moves for your character. I think that's neat to have essentially universal extra moves for any character, but assists have a tried and true history in FGs, so I'm confused why they're not just doing it more like those. The ones where your main just poses to side sound really lame.

I think once movement is improved, the game will feel great. I wouldn't say kameos need crazy amounts of tuning either, even after 3 days of stress, people were still finding out cool and crazy setups you could do with Jax and whatnot. And that's just 3 kameos and 4 characters.

Add: *1)* Co-op tag -- both full tag, as well as for Kameos (P2 controls Kameo), even if only an off-line functionality; *2)* Option for non-cinematic Fatal Blows; *3)* "Kasual" / non-tournament mode where combo damage scaling, and ability / perk restictions can be toggled OFF (a kind of testing ground for how old school games used to play before all the "balance" restrictions ruined the fun); *4)* Shao [Kahn], Michael Myers, and Homelander; and *5)* weekly Kombat Kasts, w/Steffie Brownback ("16bit") front and centre... 😏

I don't like how using Cameos is necessary, even executing the majority of the combos is reliant on the cameo character. They have not said anything about having a classic mode without the cameos being present in it either

They should just put in a Turbo option in the character select screen. If players prefer the slower states fine. If players prefer a hyper mode then there you go. I always prefer fast moving characters in fighters.

Throw animations are SO LONG. NOt only the animations are long but then you literally stand for 3-4 seconds on place. It's like 5-6 seconds total every time you throw someone

A good majority of the community hated variations which is why they got rid of them. When they were first introduced it was cool and was definitely on paper a cool idea but what ended up happening was it segmented all the characters move sets way too much and held them back especially in 11. All the characters only had access to pieces of their moveset so depending on which variation you chose it locked you out of certain special moves and stuff like that which is why people didn’t like it. After 2 games of it, it seemed like collectively the community was pushing for them to just give us free reign again and allow us access to 100% of our chosen characters abilities and moves. So yea I wouldn’t count on them coming back atleast not in this game man but they could come back in the future game if they maybe did the variations in a different way. I think I’m MKX they did them right cus the way they were set up it kinda made it to where depending on which one you chose you could play a characters 2 or 3 different ways but in 11 the characters were all pretty limited so separating special moves made it feel even more limited and it didn’t feel like you could play your character in a creative way

When i first saw the gameplay trailer immediately said “damn this looks janky and stiff and slow af” thank you for confirming. And yeah 11 has great speed. I still play it and it makes this game look like molasses.

Honestly, I feel super unimpressed with "Mortal Kombat 1"... the graphics are alright, but I feel like they've really over focused on ridiculous fatalities at the expense of gameplay and any kind of engaging story/setting anymore. Totally not sold on the kameos yet either. Feels like going backwards into a gimmick more than a good "addition". The game has some really stiff competition... I had hoped that they would actually go right back... I feel like it's a huge missed opportunity to go right back to the very FIRST Mortal Kombat tournament... that would be cool as... where it all began. Get some more of that old school martial arts movie aesthetic back into the game.

I’m a big mk fan but sf6 killed it for the fighting genre this year. I think mk will be good, looks like an upgrade to mk11

I am a huge MK fan with hundreds of hours on MKX and MK11, and I was literally falling asleep watching people playing and playing it myself. I'm officially worried.

Hmm, that's definitely concerning. I enjoyed MK11 alright, but me and my friend were consistently returning to MKX, even when we were in the height of our MK11 hype. I'd definitely prefer more speed and mobility, and shorter combos. There's nothing more frustrating as a player than spending time "stuck in a combo". I honestly would like to see the return of "running", I don't even think you need stamina, just have it add frames to your attack unless you duck to cancel. My two cents, anyways.

From the very first trailer I was deflated in excitement levels due to how the mobility looked. It looked like MK11 again. I was determined I’d skip the game because MK11 was depressing after the first few hours. Then the combos started to emerge. I’m interested again but I agree fully that mobility should be enhanced. MK11 visuals with MKX gameplay style would be perfection.

All this people saying that this reminds them of MK9 should really change their glasses. MK9 was peak mortal kombat , this one is generic af they should call it Mortal Combat.

The level of content is going to be the biggest factor for me. Like, 11 had a LOT of towers, and I only played it for a week after launch and then would only come back for the DLC fighters for a few days a piece. There was just so little variety in terms of stuff to do.

Even the Krypt lacked content. Once I unlocked all the areas, there were only really a few chests worth opening. The rng chest killed my interest in going back to it

How about actually fight online? I did KL for 3 years straight, getting off on adrenaline and ranking up, fighting buddies, fighting random, learning the roster. So yeah..try fighting...😂

It's not the overall speed, it's the short dash what is the problem. Tekken characters are slow too, but it has a great dash mechanic and that what makes it look faster.

My biggest complaint from the footage I’ve seen is that this just does not feel like an interesting assist game. The cameos seem to be glorified special moves instead of another character you’re working together with. It’s extremely goofy when Sonya runs on the screen and does the longest throw animation of all time while your character just stands there in a pose. It feels like they wanted to make a tag game but for whatever reason has to fall back on this half baked version of one
