This is interesting lineup here. 1. Pure corporate vtuber who likes to watch indies 2. Indie turn corporate 3. Pure indie who has strong ties to corporation. It is funny that the song and dance that is really popular now and reproduced in tiktok is Suisei's bibideba

Agreed, but let's also remember that just a couple months ago, Ui's song absolutely broke the internet. I think these two cases perfectly sum what the advantages of each are (corporate and independent) for Corporate Suisei, she got the resources, both economic and logistic, to create such a great song (and MV), and for Ui, it was the creativity without restrictions that allowed her to create loli requiem.

If we were talking purely about the quantity of original ideas, I can see how people still scrambling to grow an audience/somebody with a limitless ambition might seem crazy to her in comparison. Not having to constantly push ideas just to stay afloat (while still having other sources of motivation) could be described as having less drive to do stuff, I suppose

Perfect breakdown of "corporate vs. indie" imo. When signing up with a corporation you give up some freedoms in return for security and to lighten your workload. What degree on that scale is best comes down to the specific case of the individual. Some love being their own boss and having everything in their own hand, others thrive best when they have a solid frame of reference they can work in and everything in between. None of those decisions is inherently better than the others. (At least as long as it's a functional partnership.)

"What is the biggest difficulty of indie VTubers?" Suisei: "I think it applies to many people, but, they have to do everything themselves, right? If a work proposal comes in, you have to reply it yourself, and when you go corporate, management does that for you...." The fact that there are corporate VTubers means that one could say some of the indie ones are literally analogous to sole proprietorship businesses

Each has their advantages and disadvantages. This lineup is perfect for getting a nuanced view of the topic of indie vs corpo. What each talent and creator chose to do is dependent on what their situation is what what's suitable for them. Some talents are better indie (or semi-indie, when it comes to VShojo) and some talents get a better chance to shine with proper corpo backing. In short: Indie = Near Absolute Freedom, but you have to build your own support structure. Also, take on all the risk but also all the reward. Corpo = Highly Developed Support Environment, but you have to follow their rules and restrictions. They're also pretty risk adverse but will generally have the ability to do really big projects.

indie that free but manage everything by themself corpo that join a big group to be managed then there's doki, i think it's gonna be the new type, a private management, not a vtuber joining a corporate backing to have a management, but a management custom build privately for the vtuber, their own name are the company name, with their own self gathered manager and connection the same with PL Taboo, it used to be taboo because corpo vtuber are on the rise and their pl can be a disturbance and liability but now with more and more vtuber quitting their corpo, the number of "graduate" on the market are rising and PL Taboo become annoying restriction for fans to follow their idol, so it also crumbling even now, vtubing are still evolving, and it's really interesting

@@NeroZeroes I imagine indie Vtubers hiring people to split the workload isn't really new, just not talked about much. Then there are ones who rely (sometimes effectively hire, I assume) on relatives or friends for stuff, too. Doki is just a very prominent example, for obvious reasons
@puhanlemontian60269 ай бұрын
@@NeroZeroes however the case with doki is that she is already big in the community, her type does not work for newly start indies, the cost can't be ignored. as for the PL, this is just culture thing, in Japan, it is still well respected, because Japanese people love to follow rules and practice set by the industry leaders, in the West, the taboo is no longer strictly followed.
@NeroZeroes9 ай бұрын
@@MrCh0o i think doki are the most prominent name to do it like this, we even have name for her manager, and yes, i bet there are other indie that do it like her too but it seems doki are more well structured because she's an ex corpo and know well already what she need and what not
@NeroZeroes9 ай бұрын
@@puhanlemontian6026 yeah, this new type really rely on your own name to work, so off course it only work when you already well established first It's like movie artist i guess, starting artist are part of agency, but big time artist are their own agency

Honestly when an indie Vtuber reach a certain point, they become capable of just hiring managers and is essentially a one-man corpo. Like Dokibird, though she's a special case, so I guess Ui mama is a better example here, where if she really wanted she could hire a manager but Vtubing is her hobby instead of a job. Though I think you still need to go corpo if you want to access frequent 3D studio capabilities and the different connections that a corpo would give to you.

Suisei has unique situation. She managed to become a corporate vtuber but still owning rights for her vtuber name and model. We not know details about her contract with Hololive, maybe her later models that was made by Cover now owned by Cover, but still.... I guess even if she quit from Hololive years later, she still can continue as indie with her brand she was under Hololive. I suppose Suisei should have very special relationship and treatment with Hololive and YAGOO. I hope it all about mutual respect and knowing that they need to each other.
@puhanlemontian60269 ай бұрын
all her current models are made and owned by Cover since the shift from INNK to Hololive, nowdays on her character sheet, there is the Cover watermark on it. and her case was not unique to holo, Kuzuha, the top vtuber of Niji was also an indie, he joined Niji and most likely also bought by them. and for vtubers to get out of the company with their model is expensive, for example, himehina, a very popular duo vsinger who just had a cover song with AZKi 10 days ago spent 100 million yen to buy their model out to keep all her musics (later also bought out by Brave Group the parent company of VSPO), and the queen of ASMR suou patra spent some money to independent from 774, and 774 also sold komori met to vspo. So if suisei wants to get out with her model, she will be looking at some astronomical number if the model is up to sell.

The thing I think most En indie Vtibers make that it feels cringe is how their main selling point is Lewd. It's kind of a turn off for some people so they don't give it chance to know the vtuber more and also how they don't separate their real self from their Vtuber persona. It just kills the vtuber vibe for me. It just feel like they are using the Vtuber hype to garner attention before they make their real self their selling point.
@sjorahx56519 ай бұрын
@@ruweee4443 True there is a reason why I like watching vtubers instead of fleshtubers same with anime and your regular TV series. I'd argue that majority of the people who watch anime don't even know the person behind the character and most of the time they do not care cause at the end of the day you are watching the anime not the voice behind it.
