Not having any rain has been ideal for insecticide use. Permethrin powder was working until the army-worms arrived where I had success with a liquid version of nerve-agent. I'm going to be forced to get a high-tunnel b/c the bug battle on tomato plants was a breeze this year. The cage-wire on your fence is legit, 10/10. Though I think I'm going to use/order a galvanized carport frame with the more expensive smooth-bends..
@TrueFoodTV
@TrueFoodTV 11 ай бұрын
Yeah, cost was definitely a concern when choosing the wire. Would have loved to go with something thicker, but went with 14 gauge galvanized in the end.

I got Gardener Scott and Pairrie girl both on KZbin to try them too.Pairrie girl loves it's flavor and trying it again this season. Gardener Scott says it's growing great and close to getting his first within weeks ( he will love them. He eats a lot of salads. When lettuce bolts I let it go. The next year I get lettuce coming up on their own. This year I planted lettuce on the north side of my building. It only gets direct sun in the morning and evening. So far the lettuce is doing a lot better than the lettuce on the south side. I am in zone 4 of north Wyoming.

I'm definitely jealous of your fence, I wish I had one to keep the deer and rabbits away. One day when I have a bigger lot I'll build something similar. I noticed my pickle cucumbers attracted a lot of predator bugs species which is great, they even moved to a bell pepper plant and ate all the bugs messing with that plant. Hopefully they make their way to my milkweed and eat the aphids, I've been killing them with soapy water, works great.
@TrueFoodTV
@TrueFoodTV 11 ай бұрын
Yeah, soapy water is always a good bet! Usually I just sit and wait for the ladybug brigade to arrive. I had aphids ALL OVER my bronze fennel (which I grow as an ornamental) and sure enough ladybug larvae hoovered them up in short time.

You should make sure that people know that when you plant different varieties close together like that. It will not give off heirloom fruit but rather hybrids as they will cross pollinate. Unless you have the acreage to plant the varieties far far apart. So, when saving seeds you cannot guarantee which variety you will get from those seeds. It isn't bad to save those seeds and grow them. You just won't know which variety you are going to get and that can potentially be annoying if you end up not liking one of those varieties. Other than that. A good video.
@TrueFoodTV
@TrueFoodTV 11 ай бұрын
That's only an issue for collecting seed, yes. In terms of the fruit I'm harvesting this year, I do harvest the fruit of the seed that I plant. Hybridization is only a concern for the next generation of fruit (the fruit from the seeds of this year's fruit. Does that make sense?)
