STATEMENT BY CHABAD-LUBAVITCH HEADQUARTERS
The Chabad-Lubavitch community is pained by the vandalism of a group of young agitators who damaged the synagogue below Chabad Headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway Monday night.
These odious actions will be investigated, and the sanctity of the synagogue will be restored. Our thanks to the NYPD for their professionalism and sensitivity.
We are grateful for the outpouring of concern, and for the support of our Chabad-Lubavitch institutions around the world.

My understanding that most of what is being described as "tunnels" is actually a crawlspace between the two buildings which was being enlarged by the Yeshiva students and the walls separating the buildings were breached.

They wanted to expand 770 which seriously needs expansion because there is not enough room. A court case has been dragging on for years between the shore and the owners of the property. These people decided to take the law into their own hands and just expand it by themselves, without any building permits, which besides being against the law is also extremely dangerous because it puts the foundation of the building into a hazard of collapsing God forbid.

Frankly I would not blame religious people for gathering to worship in the face of wrongful government lockdowns. Myself I went to a church that stayed open during lockdown, contrary to state edict. Building an unauthorized tunnel is, of course, more hazardous than gathering to worship in itself. I'm not sure that these young men are mentally disturbed. Am I mentally disturbed for questioning the State? I know that a lot of people gathered for worship during the lockdowns. And New York was notorious for gpvernment overreach. I am glad, of course, that the police handled the situation well during this incident.

Thanks for the summary and details. Describing Chabad today as a franchise seems apt. But the language in public of an "army of 12,000 men and women that were his soldiers, that were generals in their locations" suggests a broader Chabad community with the potential to also be "fueled by irrational faith and passion that is very difficult to curtail." Maybe the militaristic metaphors can stay in-house at the franchisee pep rallies instead of appearing on KZbin? To some Jews outside Chabad, there is a connection between excessive outreach using militaristic language and this extremist behavior. Maybe Reb Zalman never said "outreach nicely," but he probably thought it.

It's not a sign of irrational fanaticism to dig eruvin (tunnels). You may not carry anything from a public space to a private space, or vice versa, on the Sabbath, unless it's through an eruv. The Yeshiva students were simply digging tunnels to get from the shul to their accommodation.

Many in Chabad agree that you should not limit your reference to "kllled ' disqualifying someone as Moshiach, when in context Rambam expands this and says וַהֲרֵי הוּא כְּכָל מַלְכֵי בֵּית דָּוִד הַשְּׁלֵמִים הַכְּשֵׁרִים שֶׁמֵּתוּ. Furthermore, if we understand Sanhedrin in light of the Rambam, Daniel or anyone else would "return" as בְּחֶזְקַת מָשִׁיחַ and not מָשִׁיחַ בְּוַדַּאי. This is a significant and often ignored point. Another important point, the Rebbe wrote that Techias Hamesim, even of tzadikim, will take place after Moshiach comes not before. (Likutei Sichos Vol. 35, p. 206, Note 6:)

David, Rabbi Vigler, if you wish to have a calm intellectual discussion about what the Rebbe and Rambam and the oral tradition teach about the subject of whether the Rebbe can be Moshiach and what is happening today, please feel free to reach out. We can talk or write about this. You may be surprised. Moshiach ben Yosef, who is actually Moshiach and one with Moshiach ben David, just like the paradigm of Moshe and Aharon, is clearly intended to die and at least potentially to be murdered by ambush (which is the precise meaning of the word used by Rambam.) That scenario alludes to the event which took place with Ari Halberstam on the Prospect Park Bridge. If you want references, contact Menachem Schmidt, Shraga Sherman and Moshe Brennan in Philadelphia. Looking forward to your contact.

Once you are picking a Moshiach from the dead you can pick from Rabbi Yehuda HaNassi, R Yosef Karo, Rabbi Akiva, the Rambam, Rashi, (all of whom influenced and continue to influence FAR FAR more Jews than the Rebbe) and so many more. The very idea that someone would even consider a controversial person like the most recent Chabad Rebbe over all of those tells you alot. Of course a dead person cannot be Moshiach, so this whole discussion is peurile. Of course the quote of the Talmud refutes the entire point. "If he is from the dead...it is Daniel". Does not mean it can actually be someone who is dead. It means that had Moshiach come from a person in the past it would be someone like Daniel. Worse, if it meant ACTUALLY from the dead, then it told you it is Daniel - not the rebbe. This whole Rebbe-Moshiach mishegass is such a pity and an embarassment.
@rationalistssj6540
@rationalistssj6540 5 ай бұрын
You are 100% correct. Not only that, but the point is moot in any event since the Rebbe did not fulfill the criterea listed by the Rambam (Melachim 11:4) for being Moshiach: building the Beis HaMikdash and gathering all the exiles to Eretz Yisrael. Some Chabad members contend, moreover, that the rebbe is now only becheskas Moshiach, but when he comes back, he'll do the rest and be Moshiach vadai! This is remeniscent of the "second coming" believed by Christains (a Chiristain invention of necessity, since Jesus also met none of the criteria for being Messiah.)

@lizzyjeanne
@lizzyjeanne 5 ай бұрын
Yes. They were in the basement of the building. Basements have all sorts of things stored in them. Families use that building and they bring children. So it’s natural that children’s items would be found in the basement. The mattress is probably something someone found outside on the curb and brought inside to either be used to cushion them while digging or the sleep on if they stayed in the tunnels. If you’ve ever seen the streets of NYC, there are all sorts of things left out on the curb for the trash, and people come by and collect what they want. The whole place was filled with trash. It wasn’t exactly a clean place. It looked like all sorts of things had been brought in from the streets.

@@lizzyjeanne Well, as a matter of fact I didn't see 'all kinds of things'. I saw children's high chairs, children's car seats and more than one children's matress. Isaiah describes Ben Joseph as the Suffering Servant in Isaiah 52:13 through Isaiah 53. Read it. Everywhere in the Tanach that is written ‘salvation’ the Hebrew word is salvation. Jews and Gentiles need salvation from sin. “He will be a light unto the Gentiles,” speaking of Messiah. Isaiah 9:2, isaiah 42:6-9, Isaiah 49:6, Isaiah 51:4, Luke 2:28ff. Read……

I don't agree what was done. However I am not emeberased for "they" did. ( Especially when it is a few less than 20 young guys involved ) What is amusing is why we are not emeberased... on so many levels when we collectively dont do what the REBBE thought us. And especially when we all have our own closets that need clearing... It's time to put things in perspective. 1. 770 must be expanded 2. 30 years in court won't help anyone 3. The boys who did the damage or what they thought was expanding... should be punished 4. We need a new team to work on building 770 to the way it was meant to be. No sides. Just focus on the goal. 5. We need moshiach now.

It does matter who the Mashiach is. That is why the Rambam gave us his required credentials.. The Shiur was pretty good and kudos to you for teaching about Mashiach. I do not agree with the conduct of how the tunnel was dug but I do share the frustration thousands of Chabadniks have as to the Rebbe's explicit directive to expand 770 not being heeded by the "elites" in Chabad. All true Chabadniks do agree that the Rebbe, alive or not, is the Real promised Mashiach. The so called inner conflict is ridiculous, it's just whether to publicize all the Rebbe's teachings and directives or to keep them secret so that we don't come across like "Meshuganers" as you put it.. Mashiach Now! World peace Now! Amen.

The Messiah is an anointed King of Israel. THIS... is `a' Messiah. There is only One G-d of Infinite Truth, Light and Goodness. There is no other. THIS... is the `Divine Image.' To knock on the door of wisdom, one must enter through the gate of humility. The `Christing Metaphor' -- an ancient alchemy of transmutation -- meaning a crucifixion of egoic constructs, a resurrection of Spiritual consciousness and a renewed connection with Source, has long been misinterpreted and applied literally as a form of vicarious atonement. Even the first sentence of Genesis -- "In the beginning G-d created the heavens and the earth" -- is a fundamental misinterpretation promulgated by both Jewish and non-Jewish sources, and thus a misunderstanding of the Hebrew text. Point being, the Hebrew word translated as G-d, "Elohim," does not denote a Singularity, but rather, a multiplicity of formative powers of a creative order. This interpretation of a plurality of Elohim is fully commensurate with the moral principles of MA'AT -- the formative Neters and creative order of Egypt -- of which Moses, having been raised and instructed in the Pharaoh's Court would have been a student and an initiate. The Neterim of Egypt/Mizraim and the Elohim -- mistranslated as gods/idols -- of Genesis are identical.

An incoherent jumble of confusing semantics, amounting to nothing. FYI, there is a disagreement among the Rishonim how to translate the first verse of the Torah. Ramban renders it "In the beginning G-d created the heavens and the earth," while Rashi and others disagree. These men were infintely greater than all of us, knew Tanach by heart, and had a comprehensive understanding of the structure of the Hebrew language the eclipsed all of our combined. They did not "misinterpret" anything and the disagreement of these Torah titans was founded on deep concepts that are not for this discussion.

@@rationalistssj6540 - If the Ramban translates Elohim as G-d, then this is incorrect. G-d is not many. G-d is One. The Shema, as you should know, is clear in this regard. Babel on if you will and act indignant about how confused you are over semantics, however, that the Hebrew word Elohim has long been misrepresented in English as a Singularity remains a misinterpretation.

@@Elazar40 Elohim denotes One God. It is expressed this way as the plural of majesty, as every Jewish child knows. Sometimes it is shortened to Eil (as in Bereishis 49:24 and elsewhere). The Torah was given by God to the Jews, not to the Christains, and we have a tradition going back to Sinai as to what words of the Torah mean. We don't need Gentiles, or lost Jews who adopted Christianity, to inform us of their meaning.

@@rationalistssj6540 Elohim does not denote One God. Elohim denotes a multitude of formative forces/principles, like time/space etc., placed in motion by G-d. "In the beginning, i.e., the beginning of time/space etc., was/is an expression of the Infinite Will of the G-dly Spirit of Law & MA'AT, meaning, a creative order. Note: Jesus is best described as an archetypal metaphor of Osiris. Osiris does not have a navel. Why? Because woman and the regenerative powers she represents were not yet manifest. With the expression of the first woman/Eve from man came duality. The first conceived woman who is an expression of the generative powers of archetypal man, gives birth to Horus, the first man of the earth. So the correct order of descent from an Infinite Nothing to a constriction of something, is, from the Father to the woman and then the first born man of the earth. Thus, archetypal man/Adam, the generative power wherein rests the re-generative powers of woman, is the first conceived son of God. As an aside, the first envy, was an envy of the re-generative powers of a woman, which was largely predicated upon a lack of awareness between conception and birth of a child nine months into the future.
