BEAUTIFUL ANCIENT BAGAN PART 1 will visit pagodas: Law Ka Nandar, Lay Myat Nar, Manuha Gu Paya, Mya Zedi. Paintings were purchased.
Hi Everyone, I am really proud to present my video on Beautiful Ancient Bagan historic sites and lifestyle of how the ordinary local people lived in present Bagan. We will visit several pagodas in this part 1 video as the following:
1) Law Ka Nandar Pagoda, 2) Lay Myat Nar Pagoda, 3) Manuha Gu Paya Pagoda, and 4) Mya Zedi Pagoda.
In this episode, I also visited artist U Maung Pa and bought several oil painting and a sand painting from him. He is recognized as one of the famous local artist in Bagan where his show room facilities are located in Mya Zedi Pagoda compound.
A short background of Bagan.
Bagan is an ancient city located in the Mandalay Region of Myanmar, renowned for its stunning array of Buddhist temples, pagodas, and monasteries. Here are some key highlights:
Historical Significance
Capital of the Pagan Kingdom: From the 9th to the 13th centuries, Bagan served as the capital of the Pagan Kingdom, the first kingdom to unify the regions that would later constitute modern Myanmar.
Architectural Marvels: During its peak, over 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas, and monasteries were constructed. Today, more than 2,200 of these structures still stand.
UNESCO World Heritage Site
Recognition: In 2019, Bagan was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its cultural and historical significance.
Sacred Landscape: The site features an exceptional range of Buddhist art and architecture, including numerous temples, stupas, monasteries, and places of pilgrimage.
Tourist Attractions
Temple-Hopping: Visitors can explore the vast array of temples, each with unique architectural styles and historical significance.
Hot-Air Balloon Rides: One of the most popular activities is taking a hot-air balloon ride to witness the breathtaking sunrise or sunset over the temple-studded landscape.
Local Crafts: Bagan is also known for its traditional lacquerware, and visitors can learn about this craft and even try their hand at making it.
Geography
Location: Bagan is situated on a bend of the Irrawaddy River in the central plains of Myanmar, covering an area of about 104 square kilometers.
Bagan’s rich history and stunning scenery make it a must-visit destination for anyone interested in culture, history, and architecture.
Bagan is renowned for its traditional crafts, with lacquerware being the most famous. Here are some unique crafts and products from Bagan:
Lacquerware
Craftsmanship: Bagan’s lacquerware is highly regarded for its quality and intricate designs. Artisans use natural materials like bamboo and wood, coating them with sap from the lacquer tree to create durable and beautiful items.
Products: Common lacquerware items include bowls, cups, plates, trays, and decorative pieces. Each piece is often hand-painted and engraved with elaborate designs.
SAND PAINTINGS
Technique: Sand paintings are another unique craft from Bagan. Artists use colored sand to create detailed images, often depicting scenes from Buddhist mythology or daily life in Bagan.
Products: These paintings are typically done on cloth and can be framed or used as wall hangings.
Wood Carvings
Craftsmanship: Skilled woodcarvers in Bagan create intricate sculptures and reliefs, often depicting religious themes or traditional Burmese motifs.
Products: Items range from small decorative pieces to large panels and statues.
Textiles
Weaving: Traditional weaving techniques are used to produce beautiful textiles, including longyi (a type of sarong) and scarves.
Products: These textiles are often made from silk or cotton and feature intricate patterns and vibrant colors.
Pottery
Craftsmanship: Pottery in Bagan is made using traditional methods, with artisans shaping and firing clay to create various items.
Products: Common pottery items include pots, vases, and decorative figurines.
These crafts not only reflect the rich cultural heritage of Bagan but also provide a livelihood for many local artisans.
