I enjoyed the addition of the old photos showing the past. When I was a wee tot there was a store at the foot of Cawood Hill run by Joe Galliger(?) at that time. I was born in Cawood but we moved away when I was almost 7. Having family in Dione we visited Harlan Co. often.

Hi Ignited & Mrs Coyote. How are you folks today? Cawood Kentucky. Isn’t that where long time UK Wildcats radio announcer Cawood Ledford was from? Hope you folks are doing well. Keeping you folks and everyone in Eastern/Southeastern Kentucky in thoughts and prayers. Y’all have a great day. God bless
@IgnitedCoyote
@IgnitedCoyote Жыл бұрын
We're good Jonathan, hope you're well. Mr Ledford was named for his mother's family whom I'm told owend quite a bit of land in the area. He retired back to the area and spent his last days in the house we identified as his and is buried in a small cemetery behind it. His funeral was quite large, possibly the largest Harlan has seen.

The lady who does all of the Halloween and Christmas decorations out in the yard up on Cawood hill, she’s my first cousin, Katrina Osborne. She gets all decked out for both Halloween and Christmas every year. She would not care a bit for y’all to come in and check out all of her decorations and will sit and talk about anything Harlan and Cawood related. She is a very sweet and big hearted woman… she probably wouldn’t care a bit for y’all to interview her if y’all wanted to. I use to live in Cawood myself. From 1982 to 2010, I live in Casey County now but visit from time to time.

It’s been about 14 years since I’ve been to the Cumberland Plateau and this view gives SE Ky a tropical look with vines growing everywhere. The land is so beautiful, compared to the boring flatlands of Illinois. I miss my kin folk from Lee Co and I’m looking forward to coming back for a visit. Hope the flood victims are doing fine.

Just talked to a guy at Walmart today who was buying a truckload of supplies for the flood victims he said who was still living in tents! That just ain't right. We're going to have to try to go over and do a follow-up video.
@BL-no7jp
@BL-no7jp Жыл бұрын
@@IgnitedCoyote I truly hope you or some will do a follow up on these folks. It would be a great service to them. I’m afraid the chill we’re having in Central Illinois will be moving south in a few weeks with lows in the upper 30’s. These folks can’t live in tents this winter. Tents aren’t made with canvass nowadays. There’s still time to build apartments or shelters get trailers and campers until the weather warms up next year. We’re due for a La Niña wet winter, with lots of snow in the Ohio Valley. I’m an advanced storm spotter., here in tornado alley along I-70. We won’t have the extra vegetation to soak up flood water during winter months until mid May. It would be a great service to all if you could do a monthly update on the progress made with the help of the victims because after all, the greatest heroes of the flood disaster were the victims.

About that "FLAT" ground and the plentiful churches, there were 8 kids in my family--All grew up in Harlan Co. All went North to work, raise families, military, etc, Many a time one of us would bring A coworker, girlfriend/boyfriend, military buddy or whatever HOME to Harlan to visit. Without fail, after seeing the mountains and roads from the 50's & 60's each and every one of them would be on their Knees ready for church and it didn't matter which one. Enjoy your drives very much.

Howdy folks the store that y’all are looking at the white store is the actual D & B MARKET, which was owned by Duper and Betty Jackson. D & B has been closed for years. The apartments were always there. However the new church which is pastored by Preacher Jerry Collins is where the old car wash used to be. The old holiness church is back behind the new church on the hill.

Those aren't Chevettes...I had a '79 Chevette. Looks like the old Chevy Citation. It seems to me kudzu likes water....it grows like crazy near water. I think Kentucky has more churches with unusual, or at least unique, names than any other state. You have to wonder how they got their names.
@IgnitedCoyote
@IgnitedCoyote Жыл бұрын
You're right about the cars and the kudzu. I think the Appalachian Holiness churches which are an offshoot of the Pentecostal churches have the most unique names. Just got the ghost hunting Kentucky book, can't wait to start reading it. Thanks so much Scott! Your packages are always such a treat.
