I like buying my tickets ahead of time online and printing them out. What happens if you have to change trains to another regional train and it departs in a matter of minutes? How are you supposed to find the time to validate it? I say just buy the regional tickets at the station and validate them in one of the validation machines before boarding the train.

I agree, it's definitely easier to buy the regional train ticket at the train station to avoid any mishaps!

You have to check in anyway, unless it’s a high speed train which is valid for a specific day and time

Hi speed trains have reserved seating, meaning an appointed time for you to be on the train. With regional trains, you have to validate, because it has a life of I think 4 hours validation. Say, if you miss your regional train, you can catch the next one going to your destination.

A lot of people in EU own a car and can easily go there without borders that causes some bad things. The roads are narrow and it becomes almost impossible to drive so it’s a smart move to increase tolls but not for locals, only for foreigners. Trains in Italy are the worst in terms of prices so you should better take some low cost flights
