Still can’t get rid of the side cutters (cable cutters) though, because you can’t use this multi tool to get rid of the copper sticking out of a ferrule! One reason why I prefer dedicated tools.

Wonderful presentation. You have no idea how useful your video was to me. I was about to too much money on Knipex self adjusting pliers, and stripper, and a cutter - out of lack of information. This 3-in-1 tool blows my mind. Cheers!
@three-phase5622 жыл бұрын
This style is okay for building wiring looms up outside the panel, but as soon as you are inside a panel with all the components mounted inside, the cutter becomes awkward to use and I often revert to using side cutters for cutting the cables to length. There may be a similar issue with the ferrule crimping tool for some panels.

I tend to find the Knipex 97 53 18 Twister ideal for those tighter situations, not perfect but if you're not fussed about a multi-tool because you already happen to have the other tools with you it's generally a better buy.

I use a tool labeled "Bessey Erdi D49 160mm" to trim off the excess copper at the end of ferrules. It has a round cut blade so it can also shorten the length of a ferrule if it's too long, without deforming its end.

Ferrule crimper seems pointless as you have to put the tool down to put the ferrules on. So may as well use a separate ferrule crimper. Otherwise a good tool. Will probably buy the older version as now it will be much cheaper thanks to the new one being launched!

Wierd that they didn't put the same jaws as the Preci-strip 16. They used the flatter and less grippy ones from the multistrip. The force adjustment seems meh too. They should've upgraded the Preci-strip by just adding the crimper instead of downgrading
@BariumCobaltNitrog3n2 жыл бұрын
Like any multi-function tool, it does a worse job at all of them. It's fine for wiring up a table top full of loose wire, I guess. The stripper will be useful if someone else is holding the wire, but side entry is better flying solo. It's huge too, why is it so big? I love my little nippers, sharp and...little.

Jack of all trades, master of none. I love Knipex products but don't care for this tool. First of all, I'll endorse hex crimps 100% of the time. I have crimped more square ferrule crimps than anything else, and I'll never go back. The wire backstop is great but I don't like the stripping mechanism. This a a good tool but I disagree that it'll replace a good (proper) set of strippers and the Knipex hexagon ferrule crimper. The use case for these tools is why they existed in the first place.

Seriously, though the tool geek in me is drooling profusely (despite the fact that I've not crimped a ferrule in a decade) while my inner skeptic is wondering how well a machine of such delicate complexity will hold up in the field (perhaps that lanyard loop is a subtle warning to not drop the tool even once). @@herrtomas6729 Technically speaking, the square shape is much better than a hexagonal one. You pinch the ready cable between two flat surfaces or just bolt it - much safer with square shape's two *bigger* contact surfaces. It's a slight twist just so you can push the strands easily into the ferrule without smashing them backwards. I bet that would be a worse situation. After all, you're compressing them hard inside a metal tube and then you bolt/clamp on it with yet another force, so... Let's stick to reality and not just engineering guidelines. 😉✌
