What do you mean by the 2nd Marquess being the only person to hold that title? How about the Marquess of Winchester (title from 1551 and still extant).

You are right: there was a slight mis- speaking here. It was the title of the Marquessate of Rockingham that Fitzwilliam felt should die with his uncle for no other would be worthy enough to bear it after him. There were, of course, other Marquesses.

The picture of the 1795 prime minister is wrong. You showed Pitt the elder, it should be Pitt the younger.

These two ladies are wonderful and have explained the legacy of titles as well as possible (hahaha). I’d really like to see more of the original baroque back side, because I find the interiors of newer front a bit lacking in architectural interest. Just saying…
