Roy, a very nice Fuji kit,, and some awesome photography as well. I'm also a Fujifilm X-System photographer, and also use one 3rd party lens, a Rokinon 8mm f/2.8 Fisheye, which is manual focus and quite sharp as well, although not in the same league as the stellar Fujinon optics! Thanks for sharing!

Hey Roy, great video, I have almost the same kit, but i can't make my IR pictures like yours. I tried a lot of things, channel swap, hue/sat, etc.. Can you show me some tips? Thanks
@roycruzphoto
@roycruzphoto 7 жыл бұрын
+Christian Soto Anaya I've had similar issues myself. Through trial and error I've found that light conditions and the kind of foliage play a big part in getting that snowy/ cherry blossom look. Some trees just don't give you that. I've also had better luck in later afternoon light as opposed to high noon. I can't find it at the moment, but my friend Simon Bond has a great IR tutorial on his site. Just try Googling it.

Nicely done, and informative choices. I haven't seen such nice IR photos since a spread in Life magazine. I wasn't sure that digital sensors allowed it. I liked the BG music, too... Sounded like a solo from a James Brown song. I read further down & see that it's from the YT library. I used that for my first videos & thought they stopped it. Glad it's still around.

Cool vid and photos. Why two interchangeable lens bodies? Since the three lenses can be used on one body, you'd save space with just the X-T1. Or X-T1 + compact fixed lens body (X100T or X70) for nights on the town. What benefit do you get having the X-E1 in your kit?
@roycruzphoto
@roycruzphoto 8 жыл бұрын
+L. A. Nolan Thanks for watching! I like to have two fully interchangeable bodies for backup purposes. Just in case one goes down, I can still keep shooting and use all the lenses in my kit. I used to have he X100S and I enjoyed it, but it wasn't a full backup solution.

I was thinking of getting the X-t2 but after hearing it has issues with worming and loosing sharpness. Im looking at different options. Looking at your shots with the X-E1 Im tempted to just get one of the older models. They seen just as capable. Would you recommend them over the X-t2? I don’t know if the x-t1 has the same software issue.
@roycruzphoto
@roycruzphoto 4 жыл бұрын
Older bodies are definitely just as capable in terms of image quality. The newer models offer faster AF and overall performance. They also offer more bells and whistles like better viewfinders, dual card slots, more megapixels, etc. It really depends on your needs and the type of photography you want to do. But even older bodies will give you excellent image quality. In terms of the worming, I've only really had it bother me very few times. I use Lightroom and I hear other RAW processors like Capture One or Iridient Developer may do a better job at avoiding the worming issue. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching.

interesting kit, kabayan! you went from 12mm up to 35mm? have you ever felt the need of something in between? my pure landscape kit lens is the 12mm and 18-55 but if I'm travelling then it's 2 from my prime lenses (12, 18, 27, 35) I have the XC 16-50 on its way, curious to see how it is optically as it would be great if I want to travel really light for landscape.
@roycruzphoto
@roycruzphoto 8 жыл бұрын
+Earl D Thank you! There have been a few times when I missed an in-between focal length. But most of the time, I really enjoy the difference. It makes you think more about composition. Not sure about the XC 16-50 as I've never tried it, but your lineup of primes are very sharp, so the bar has been set high. :)

Thanks for sharing this. By the way, what camera did you use in shooting this video? I also have two Fujifilm cameras (X100T and X-T10 with the two variants of 35mm). I couldn't find a decent camera bag that has a good padding and quality. Any recommendation aside from this one on the video?
@roycruzphoto
@roycruzphoto 8 жыл бұрын
+Bob Calderon Thanks for watching! I used my iPhone 6S Plus to record this video. I'm inclined to recommend camera inserts instead of camera bags for versatility and flexibility. But prior to getting this bag, I was looking at the Tenba Switch series. The Peak Design Everyday Messenger looks interesting as well.

Thanks for the video.. you mention something about IR.. i assume with the Rokinon 12mm? how did that lens play with IR? good across all apertures?
@roycruzphoto
@roycruzphoto 8 жыл бұрын
+Ryan Lio Thank you for watching! I did IR with all 3 lenses mentioned, as seen in the images at the end of the video. The 12mm had the most distinct hotspot in the center of the frame, which became more distinct as I stopped down the aperture. It was pretty easy to correct in Lightroom with a radial brush though.

why do you not use your xt1 for landscape? (ps great video and photos)
@roycruzphoto
@roycruzphoto 7 жыл бұрын
+George Morris Thanks for watching! I do use the XT1 for landscapes, especially when I need the tilting screen. However, my first choice for manual lenses is the X-E1 because I feel they are a good match, not needing any AF speed improvements of the new bodies. The first generation sensor also has a very sharp raw look that I like.

Very good video, and the photos at the end were stunning! I'm considering the Fuji system for lightweight work, and want to do a lot of infrared with it. I was considering the Samyang 12 f2 for this purpose, but I heard that it had a significant hotspot , however, I see your last shot was with this lens was an IR shot. It looked prefect! Would you say it works okay for infrared work? Thanks in advance.

@roycruzphoto
@roycruzphoto 7 жыл бұрын
+Stylum Mazzit It does have a hotspot and I just work around it. Open up the aperture to soften up the hotspot and correct in Lightroom using a radial filter. I used to avoid the Samyang for IR, but after I learned the workaround, I'd say it works okay. Thanks for watching!

Hey bro, novice here. Is there really a need to bring 2 bodies? Can i couple the samyang 12mm to xt1? I love to travel and been doing mobile photography for a while. Want to go more serious and purch an xt1. I found your kit on a minimalist side and i was inspired to do the same 😊 salamat!
@roycruzphoto
@roycruzphoto 8 жыл бұрын
+Alfred Alvarez Thanks for watching! The second body isn't absolutely necessary, but I like to have it as a backup. Also, I feel like the Samyang and X-E1 are a very good match for slower landscape shooting. Yes, the 12mm works great with the X-T1. I sometimes mount the 12mm on the X-T1 when I need the tilt screen. I'm all about keeping gear as simple as possible, and I encourage people to do the same.

@roycruzphoto
@roycruzphoto 8 жыл бұрын
Hello. Yes, I would definitely recommend the X-E1 as a second body. Wi-fi is nice to have, but it's not a necessity. Your X-T10 already has wifi and if you really need to, you can put the other camera's SD card into the X-T10 and transfer the files (jpeg only). I do that with my X-E1 and X-T1 when I want to post a photo quickly to the Internet. The main limitation would be AF performance on the X-E1. If you want faster AF, then you might want to look into an X-E2 or another newer generation body. But if you're okay with slower AF or if you are using manual lenses, then the X-E1 would do the job nicely.
