What's in my Camera Bag in 2023? Shimoda Action x25 (w/ some hacks)

I haven't done one of these videos in a while... here its my updated downsized camera kit with a few hacks for the smaller Shimoda backpacks

Nice video and sharing.I have both the Explorer 40 and the Action X30, but somehow the Action X30 saw more trips and carrying duties than the Explorer. I am eyeing the X25 as well, specifically as a "personal item" to fly with me for hiking trips in the mainland.

Eh Spencer howzit 🤙 Found your KZbin channel when I was looking for SEO vids, that was a great video you made on the BI. I have also found Pueo out toward Kahuku Ranch on BI. After watching that video this one poped up and caught my interest this looks to be where I grew up in Kaneohe and Kailua, looks like you are in Kawainui Marsh area. Born and raised Hawai'i boy now living in your old neck of the woods, Washington State. Just moved north from Pierce County to Ferndale and near Skagit Valley wirh lots of Short Eared Owls during winter months. You certainly do a great job with you videos. great video, glad to know that I am not the only one with major GAS, if you had to pick just one lens between the 16-35 PZ and 20-70 F/4, which one would you choose?, I am also on the tree to reduce the weight of my camera bag

Hi Spencer. Many thanks for this review. If you would need to choose between the Explore 25 and the Action 25, which one would you pick and why? Your advice is mostly welcome!

I think a micro four thirds camera with a prime or kit lens might be good for a secondary body. You could even get a compact telephoto for it to save even more space/weight, instead of using the heavy full frame one. Cool bagpack tour btw, if you are still looking for a lightweight tripod, maybe try a sirui st-125.

thank you for your recommendations! I actually shot with m43s before I switched to Sony crop sensor... miss the size, dont miss how poor it did in lowlight, hence the full frame, I actually am looking for something that can record video in pitch black for Milky Way... also, I enjoy having all my lenses work with all my bodies and not switching between two systems, ill take a look at that tripod recommendation! looks intriguing!

​@@spencerlee808 just like expose longer, but i get staying on full frame. m4/3 served me well, but for vr video stuff i also use full frame. I use that sirui tripod for a while now and its very stable, it has round legs, but is also compact. No issues with wind, however it uses those rotating kind of locks.

Have you been able to fly with this 25L bag fully stuffed as a personal item bag (not carry-on)? I have 26L Mindshift and I am worried it may not qualify as a personal item. The goal is to fly with the camera bag as the personal item bag and use a suitcase as a carry-on for clothes etc.

yes the 25L fits pretty well underneath the seat on most airlines... ive actually squeezed the 30L underneath some smaller seats and haven't had too much problems

Hey, late reply but I have done this multiple times with a rolling carry on and a stuffed camera backpack (not this exact bag, but a 31L WANDR bag) and it should be fine, ive only been asked about it once, and I just told them it was a personal item and they just said okay lol. so I think you should be fine.

yes both the large core unit and the x25 are available... but need to purchase them separately and combine them yourself

Which one do you prefer? The Explore V2 or the Action X V2?? I loved the Explore V2 but there was just too many things going on with the bag so I sold it. Just ordered the Action X25 v2. Seems to be less going on and it is the only roll top that has a quick access zip (unlike the Wandrd Prvke which I also have).

I like both bags, owned the explore v2 first and it felt fine for most things, I switched to the action x for the roll top, I enjoy having the flexibility of extra space if needed

When you squeeze the large mirrorless core unit into the E25 does the side access door still work?
