Join Darach and I as we head out into the forest to have a coffee, sit down under the trees and talk about what's in my first aid kit. We should all carry first aid kits when outdoors but you should take the time to personalize it in the best way to suit your needs. Hopefully this video gives you some ideas.

I've got the large version of the storm shelter and used it with my mate. The weather turned fast on Ben Wyvis 😮. Amazing how much difference inside 😀

Sam put a TOURNIQUET in there. Its small and light and is a very important peice of kit, but practice how to use it correctly also. Coffee granuals/powder is perfect for bleed stop on dogs nails. Any good groomer will tell you that. Great video, thanks.

I do have tourniquets and have had quite a bit of training in how to use them. I didn't want to include it in this video so people wouldn't be encouraged to use them without the proper training.

Man, initially I thought that kit was a bit overkill. Having watched the entire video it all makes perfect sense. Have you ever sustained a serious injury when alone in a remote setting? Thanks for the information once again pal.

To be honest it probably is a little overkill for some of the situations but I'm too lazy to make up separate kits 😂 thanks for watching!

Good video Sam, especially the point at the end RE familiarity of you first aid kit. You need to know where everything is as when you need it you probably really need it and don’t want to be fannying about trying to find what you need. On mushrooms, do you get chaga in the woods you visit?
@HighlandWoodsman
@HighlandWoodsman 4 ай бұрын
Thanks Ed! I do come across Chaga occasionally. You'll find it in birchwoods all over the North of Scotland 👍🏻

In the process of rethinking a few of my IFAK kits now, years ago I used to carry big kits now it's mostly a tiny booboo kit. Its an interesting subject that gets people going, I still often hear about them being the most important thing you can carry and you should have more kit than a paramedic to hand just in case. I've come to the conclusion they are almost always deadweight and highly overrated for the most part, really depends on what you're doing and who you are with these kits, but in 20 years of being outdoors, I think I've only ever used plasters and tape.
@HighlandWoodsman

I absolutely get where you coming from. I've had the exact same thoughts - 99/100 just small cuts. Worst I've had is a couple of nasty deep cuts on the hand that happened to people I was out with not myself. But yeah I guess it depends on the situation, what you have experienced already and or how much you let your mind drift into 'what if'. There's been many times where I have just thrown the small cuts kit in my bag and that's it! I guess for me I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it even if the chances are slim to none. Thanks for watching and appreciate you taking the time to comment.

You should do a video (series) about ‘prepping’ or survival, think will be popular because of all the crap governments are saying these days, besides that, that’s a very cool subject
