Hey Mindy, I am a Mother Baby/Postpartum nurse! I love your videos and have been watching for years! You definitely want to bring more baby socks because they get lost VERY easy and hospitals don't provide them. Also some baby mittens or socks to put over your baby's hands. Mittens fall off of newborns easy, so socks are better and stay on their hands more often that mittens. Newborns come out with long nails and they scratch their face often. That is the thing that I hear the most from women that they wish they would have brought! Definitely bring your own pillows. That is a common thing that hospitals run out of! Blankets are very abundant in the hospital if you need more than one! Hospitals provide Tucks (witch hazel) and Dermoplast but it is recommended to have some at home because you will use them a lot! Hospitals provide the peri bottle but it is quite possible that the store bought one will be better, as the ones that hospitals provide are very cheaply made. The lactation nurse or postpartum nurse will assess you to determine if you need a nipple shield, it actually can affect the baby's latch and are only recommended in certain situations. Hope this helps!

Mindy this is your journey not anyone else’s you bring what would make you feel safe and complete. It doesn’t matter if it’s too much. This is your first time. Whatever you feel good about bringing is good enough. There is no right or wrong way to do this. Whatever makes you feel most comfortable for this journey… your doing good. Be careful asking people for opinions because that can also bring out the mommy trolls who think their way is the only way ajs then your given 10.0000 opinions which is stressful. Hey Mindy! I had a baby last year and one big recommendation I heard of beforehand was to get an extra long (10-ish foot) phone charging cord. This was a lifesaver for me because the hospital outlets were in the most inconvenient places. It was nice to have my phone charged and nearby to stay in contact with family and friends during labor and after baby was born. 😊

You will not regret bringing your pillows, blanket & boppy. Great idea. It also makes you feel “at home”. It won’t get messy during labor- the nurses will likely set the blanket aside when it’s go time.

4th time mama here - my only additional suggestions for baby(not essential but Ive used both) is Vaseline to put on baby’s bottom after they are born. It helps for easy clean up with those first sticky poops. I also bring a small travel container of unscented baby soap. For baby’s bath in the hospital they use J&J regular baby wash. If you have any preferences for a more gentle wash (I noticed because you use unscented baby wipes) then this could also be helpful!

The L. Organic Cotton maxi extra long pads were my favorite postpartum pads. The hospital will give you mattress size pads, and you can ALWAYS take some home. Grab some, because you might still be bleeding really heavily a few days at home. The tucks pads were great! And get the spray. Even if they give you one, get one. If you tear you will be so happy you have an extra one.
@dee202212 жыл бұрын
I've always heard to skip the pads and just get some adult diapers. I think that's what I'll try! Also, don't feel bad for bringing make up, I am definitely bringing some because it helps me feel put together and it's a little self care in my opinion 😊

Haven’t ever been pregnant myself but I’m hospitalized about every month for anywhere from 1-2 weeks at a time, and I don’t think it’s necessary to bring your own pillows/blankets. If you’re cold, you can change the temp in your room and if you’re still cold, simply ask the staff for a extra couple of blankets. They are awesome and are usually more than willing to give you them. That goes for pillows too. Been with you since before you guys were even trying and I’m so happy for you and excited to ‘meet’ this little bundle of joy!

Hey Mindy! In my hospital bag, I took my phone charger, pajama set, shampoo/conditioner and body wash, hair brush, hair tie, toothbrush and toothpaste, glasses, contact case/solution, pair of clothes for going home in, wallet, baby’s going home outfit, and swaddle! In regards to bringing your own pillows/blankets, I honestly think the only pillow you need is the boppy❤️ Take everything the hospital gives you!!
@calleesligh2302 жыл бұрын
So I’m a super minimalist when it comes to packing. I brought home a going home outfit for the baby. The hospital provided everything else that we needed (note I have 3 daughters ranging from 11 to 1 1/2). As to mine and my husbands stuff, we brought our bathroom things and clothes (including jammies), a few snacks and needed technology. I did not bring blankets or pillows from home. I just can’t bring so much stuff. Everything you bring up there, you have to bring home so I like to pack the least possible.

Bring flip flops for the shower! For pads, Rael has postpartum underwear. Target carries them. Unscented and Organic. I'm extremely picky with clean products and these were awesome. You did awesome packing! I would add mittens for baby or extra socks. Extra socks for Larry. And then i would put in an extra bag like a grocery bag a reusable one or two reg ones to carry all the stuff you get from the hospital plus any gifts people bring you if you have a longer stay. oh and snacks just in case. For pads and postpartum stuff, the hospital provides what you need and extra to take home if you ask. I was super prepped for vaginal but needed csection. So if you buy stuff, wait to open and use the hospital stuff while there. that way you can return it if you dont need it. oh and still bring the hospital peri bottle home for your second bathroom. I thought the hospital pillows and blankets were fine. Maybe if you bring them leave them in the car and only bring them up if you decide you want to use them so you dont have to wash them if you dont use them. A lot of mamas reccommended adult diapers for vaginal recovery but you just need regular pads for csection. i liked the always brand.

FTM here also, a few weeks behind you! You may already have this in your purse/ wallet but make sure you bring your insurance card and any necessary paperwork you will need for hospital billing, and a pen for filling out birth certificate info/hospital paperwork. They probably have pens obviously, but just in case. You may also want to bring a small notebook to have someone take notes while you labor, if you play music during birth write down what song he was born to, what time he was born, the first thing that was said to him when he was born….just sentimental stuff you may want to remember later on. 💙

Can I ask you something? Have you and Larry taken Lamas classes for the delivery? It’s so helpful. Also make sure you and Larry sit and talk about postpartum and signs of postpartum depression after baby is born it’s very natural for that to happen but it’s still important to talk about with Larry and be prepared. I had it with all 3 of my boys and knowing ahead of time was helpful.

You are good to go girl. For the pads… Depends is a life saver. Also, I know you are having a boy, but baby nightgowns for easy access to change diapers during the night. Just slide it up and it’s so easy. Not sure if you packed any snacks for after labor, but I highly recommend snacks, just in case you deliver through early morning. I did pack a bunch of baby shirts the ones that snap on the side and I used all of them. I also bought a summer maxi dress to go home in. I delivered all 3 of my babies in FL and it was so hot, so a dress really helped. Everyone’s hospital journey and needs is different so bring what ever you feel comfortable with even if you feel like you overpacked. So excited for you 😊🥰

Hey Mindy everything looks fab! So excited for you!! Just to add in the babies bag definitely pack scratch mittens as baby will scratch their face and can be born with long nails! A loose blanket for baby for the journey home to cover them with as well. Muslin cloths are a godsend with babies I brought just a couple in my hospital bag and I still use them daily to this day for any spillages, accidents, wiping babies face, a blanket, lay it on top of the changing mat as my baby found the mat too cold - they’re so useful! For you an extra long phone charger as the plugs aren’t within reach and can be a bit frustrating to charge phones! Also 💯 bring a spare carrier bag for dirty laundry! After 4 days in the hospital that’s one thing I appreciated being able to separate my clean and dirty clothes Good luck with everything you will be amazing 💖💖

I recommend making sure you have some of the sleep gowns that are open at the bottom, those are a godsend especially for those middle of the night struggles trying to get squirmy legs back into the legs of a zip onesie…..not necessarily for the hospital but for home. Also take your own pads that you’re most comfortable with, I hated the hospital ones. Always Silhouette were what I used and loved!! I still sleep in them on my period 😅 Otherwise when I wasn’t bleeding quite as much I just did size 4-5. I didn’t use any more Tucks or Dermaplast than what I came home from the hospital with. You really only want to use those for a few days so I didn’t have an issue. The bottle however is a lifesaver! I just used the hospital one. Electric nail file for baby! My baby was born with claws so I was literally using it within hours. We didn’t use socks or mittens with our baby and that was at the end of December! I loved having my own pillow but didn’t use my blanket - but my husband did! But we just left all that stuff in the car and my husband brought it up for postpartum. Any little things I wanted during labor were in my husband’s bag and then we had a separate postpartum floor bag. He needed a few things for labor because we had a nighttime induction.

In my opinion the boppy pillow is a necessity because it’s for comfort especially when your up all night with the baby. I brought my body boppy pregnancy pillow to use during breastfeeding and sleeping for back support / or to elevate my legs. The other favorite items were Frida brand. I don’t even bother packing underwear. Those always discreet adult diapers are comfortable and convenient to discard frequently which also helps to heal faster / keeping you clean. They make unscented ones but def prefer those over the hospital pads.

I am also a soon to be first time mom so my guess is as good as yours lol! But I packed a little baby nail file, I’ve heard they can come out with long sharp nails.
@hannaha67242 жыл бұрын
Yes yes yes. And the hospitals won’t trim them! So yes girl! Take the nail file to buff them a little if needed (:

What might be helpful is having a little postpartum basket next to your toilet at home filled with things like tucks, the frida mom peri bottle, pads, dermaplast, tucks or depends underwear! I also really recommend the lanisoh gel pads that you can stick in the freezer!!! Please get the tucks and dermaplast!!! I thought what the hospital provided would be enough but had my husband run to the store to pick those up once we got home lol, also I really recommend a pillow with an opening in the middle to sit on because OMG just sitting down after a vaginal delivery is stressful lol. IM SO EXCITED FOR YOU OMGGGGG

Yes! I used nipple shields almost the entire time. I don't have really large nipples, so nursing (latching specifically) was tough. The nipple shields helped so much!!! Just try to get the sticky things that go on your nipples in between nursing. My hospital had them, and they were uhhhmazingfor like the first 4-6wks while your nipples are getting "toughened" up. I felt those worked better than anything topically.

Everyone told me I over packed and I used EVERYTHING I brought. I took my own Peribottle, Frida foam, Dermaplast, and tucks pads. Take them. You’ll need it. Trust me. My hospital was limited on supplies so don’t be afraid to take anything that will make you feel comfortable! I took 2 extra outfits for baby, because accidents happen! And sure enough! We used them! Your comfort is all that matters in the days following birth. Don’t worry about others opinions. 💙 so excited for you!

Girl! Get the tucks and the blast!! You’ll definitely need them! Take what ever the hospital gives you. But you always want to have extra. I personally preferred the thick pads because I would freeze them. You will feel so sore down there that anything cooling will help. I noticed that I over packed and have a system down next time. Also take flip flops to shower. Oh yeah I definitely recommend your own blanket at least. If you get the epidural you’ll want to feel warm. And those blankets they have weren’t enough. I’m so excited for you!!! 😊

Make sure to get some big pads and watch hazel, get the pads wet and freeze them, its sooooo nice to have those. Hospital taught me that. Also don't forget nipple cream, the first couple days is the worst with sore nips. I would put extra pads and creams in the diaper bag, its going to pretty much become your purse. Also, yes, a fuzzy blanket from home is nice to have. Something to remind you of home and comfort you, those little things are nice. You seem really prepared! Very excited for you. I wouldn't reccomend giving little man a pacifier if you're planning on breast feeding. It might make him reject your nipple. latching is so important and it takes time for you and him to learn how to feed. It's new to both of you so have patience and if it doesn't work out then that's okay too.

You really have all of the main things covered! The hospital underwear and pads are the best, they will give you extras to take home too, just ask for them. A few things I would maybe add but are not necessities: Portable sound machine for baby - we used this a ton Extra long phone charger - the outlets are not close to the bed Snacks - I’m so happy we packed a snack bag Book or laptop (to watch Netflix, etc) - labor can last a while so this will help occupy you during labor and also after when baby is here. You’re busy but it also gets boring in the hospital.

Hey girl !! So excited for you!!! Just a idea! You never know when baby will come and how much make up you’ll have on. I highly suggest make up wipes! Plus they’re super refreshing after delivery if you can’t hop in the shower immediately! Love you guys ♥️

For bag packing for baby. Always take a couple of going home outfits. One thing I’ve noticed about baby clothes is sometimes the newborn outfit is way to big verses other newborn outfits, so it’s a good idea to take a couple. Remember to pack a hospital outfit for photos. Take tons of pics of the baby and you and Larry with the baby. Those pictures are precious and you will find yourself looking back on those as the baby gets older. :) Oh don’t forget the mitts for the babies hands they scratch their face up a lot. :)

Hey Mindy! I have seen people recommend Tucks pads.....these round pads saved me! I put two lined up on a pad at a time. They soothe and cool the area so wonderfully! I'd advise you to go out now and buy a few containers of them, maybe 4. Bring one to the hospital and have the others waiting at home for you. You will not regret it, I promise :)

*Just had a baby 6 months ago* Most definitely bring your own blanket and pillow! Shoes to just slip on when walking the halls or getting snacks/food for you and Larry(1s for vending machines if they have them and you want snacks). I loved having the depends silhouette disposable underwear! So much better than undies and a pad! *PRO TIP* nipple cream will leave grease stains on your clothes. DONT STRESS ABOUT IT! If you have too much it’s okay if you don’t have everything Larry can go get it! You GOT this mama!! ❤️
@maryrudisill25412 жыл бұрын
DEFINITELY bring your own pillow and blanket and a robe! Just some comfy cozy things that remind you of home 😍❤️ also, consider getting an extra long phone charger because the plugs in hospital rooms are likely going to be farther away from your bed. They will send you home with plenty of pads and tucks and dermoplast as well! I felt that the peri bottle was just fine as well.

I used the Always Discreet diapers for about a week, and then switched to the Always extra long overnight pads. Those worked great. Definitely avoid scented products. And one tip I wish I knew: throw your diapers and pads in the same diaper pail you use for baby's diapers. It does NOT smell like normal period...and my bathroom trash bin smelled horrible for a whiiiile. 🥴 I also hiiiiigjly recommend ice pads. FridaMom and MedLine make the exact same product. The hospital provided the MedLine ones, and I had FridaMom at home. You crack them in half, and this chemical solution inside gets really cold (it's in a plastic bag, so it doesn't touch your skin), and that pad, layered with tucks and dermoplast was my absolute holy grail. I had three 2nd degree tears, and it was brutal, so those ice pads literally changed my life. lol Also props on the boppy. I was so exhausted after labor, and the boppy helped me hold my baby so much. You won't want to put him down, so the boppy will be amazing. And it helps with breastfeeding, of course, especially since newborns nurse for such a long time in the beginning.

Hey mindyyyy!! ❤ mama of 5 here.. on the pad situation I highly recommend you go with the cotton and not the plasticky ones! TMI but idc.. but you’ll have period like bleeding and the plastic material ones would give me a rash because of all the moisture going on in the nether regions 😂 I hope I’m making sense.. just go with cotton 😊but other than that you got everything I could possibly think of!! So proud of you and excited for you two and cannot wait to watch y’all grow together as a family! You are going to be an amaaaazing mama! LOVE you guys! 💕💕💕

I had my first at 19 years old, we couldn't afford a lot so there were many things I wished I was able to take with me to the hospital whether it be for comfort or necessity. Fast forward 8 years and I'm now due with my second boy Aug 3 and I am taking whatever I think might bring me comfort or may make my hospital stay a little more enjoyable. That would be my advice to you! Take whatever you want or feel you may need. It's okay if you bring things and don't end up using them and sometimes the little things make all the difference in your experience. Good luck!!

Hey! So as far as pads definitely go with the Always Discreet or even Depend brand. They are wonderful. I had a C-Section and the Depends were amazing.

If you want baby to use a pacifier, bring a couple kinds. I brought my pump. I was encouraged to pump by the lactation nurse to help bring in my flow. As for my baby, we barely dressed her. Between the constant changing and feeding, skin to skin & bili lights it was easier to just keep her wrapped in blankets provided by the hospital.

Just a thought…. Soap box/container for your Dove and a spare carrier bag(s) for dirty clothes etc. But I think you’ve got it covered Mindy 👍🏻 How I wish there had been internet 36 years ago and this vlog!!!! I took way more than I needed as is my way 🙄 but I went into Labour on a Sunday night and didn’t have my daughter until the Wednesday and ended up staying longer as a result so it was handy I did over pack. But as you said there’s a Walmart close by! I’ve been following your baby journey from the beginning and can’t believe it’s getting so close to ‘baby day!’ 🌻🙅♀️🙅♀️🥰

You are definitely well prepared. I would recommend a light robe, SNACKS, take your own peri bottle, coins/ cash for vending machine, and take a binder (hospital will provide you with one but I ended up having an allergic reaction to the one that they put on me). Your own blanket is always nice and a pillow. The hospitals can be a bit cold. Your hormones will be all over the place after birth and be prepared to sweat. This is an extra thing but I ordered a name sign announcement on etsy for my son. I would recommend looking into that and it's great for pictures in the hospital:). The pads I recommend are the Always Maxi Extra Heavy Overnight Pads or the Ultra thin. :)

For going home pictures or if your hospital provides a photographer, you'll want newborn outfits, 0-3 month will be loose on the baby. I did a 0-3 months outfit fur my daughter and it was big and baggy on her. For my son I actually bought a premier outfit. He was 8lb 7oz and it fit him perfect for the photos. He actually wrote it one other time before it was too small
