I got some bad gut infection once and had to go on iv at the hospital after. Based on my treatment I now carry in my first aid kit: - potassium supplement - anti-diarrhea (prevents severe dehydration) - standard "gravol" anti-nauseant - ginger anti-nauseant (you can take them both at the same time) I could not eat at all without both anti-nauseants for days.

As soon as you started going over your last minute checklist I knew fridge food would be in there haha. I think it’s a right of way for new trippers to drive 3+ hours at least a few times before realizing they left their cheese, sausage and cold water bottle in the fridge. Penaten and gold bond powder are a long-trip must for me too. Multiple wet days sitting in a canoe can lead to horrible chafing in some *ahem* uncomfortable places... Would love to see a breakdown of your fishing lures. What you use to target various species in different water and seasons would be great.

I got the Boreal 21 *specifically* after watching Jon & Erin as well as Joe Robinet torture testing them clearing portages and processing firewood. Got it for Christmas and it's literally the best bush saw I've ever owned, far and above! 💕 I've been a skeptic of Silkie saws because I'm not a fan of that wrist orientation, but after watching this video and considering the pocketability, I'm rethinking my position!

I'm all new to this outdoors life. Been out in the woods mostly cooking for fun & some fishing. Slowly starting to get some kind of a "starting kit" going for a 3+ day "hike in the wild". A video you talking about the mistakes you done and that "we" don't, would be interesting. All from packing too much stuff to tips & tricks to learn. Thanks for this video, I did really enjoy it, gave me some ideas!

Couldn't go without Unscented Baby Wipes, the thicker variety. Best for everyone to have a half-dozen in a Ziploc bag on their person and the main container in the pack for refills and camp cleaning. Bonus bathroom luxury but also good for a quick cut, scrape and rash clean, cleaning dishes, hand wipe and sponge bath, wiping packs, canoes, etc. You can burn them after cooking or compost after bathroom. They do compost completely because I've tested them at my North property. Once you take them you'll never believe you left home without them, much like a SatCom. If you use them at home do not flush them, compost them.

See, this is why I like your channel. The ethos of not using much paper and again not over using the moss, it's the small things like this that if everyone did would make a difference. Antihistamine is the 'smarter' word you were looking for, I eat a lot of spinach, didn't know about the kidney stones though. You looked so uncomfortable doing this, but you did a great job and I (at least) found it interesting.

Definitely take a trauma / advanced first aid course. I am fortunate to have close friends who are medical professionals who have taught me how and when to stitch a wound and given me knowledge of meds and their uses. I carry couple of different antibiotics, antiseptic, saline, antihistamines, epinephrine and a suture kit. With a few supplies and knowledge of how to properly use them can literally be a lifesaver. A deep cut in the bush can become dangerous fast. Without a proper meds infection can become debilitating or even life threatening. In my opinion the ability to properly close and care for a bad wound is just as important as a quality water filter.

I bring a pack of flushable baby wipes with the toilet paper. It does a much much better job than paper alone and you use a LOT less of it. Just be sure to get the flushable kind as they are essentially just wet thick paper towels and not synthetic. Also useful for hand cleaning, etc.

Great video, even though you didn't want to make it! Always interesting to see and learn what others use outdoors. I know we all have our "thing" or "things" that we tend to cling to, but just curious if you have used a Grayl bottle/filter? Absolutely love mine and a buddy I camp with finally gave up on the bags, hoses, connections, waiting on gravity, etc. and got a Grayl as well. Drinkable water in about 15 seconds and it's a useable bottle/container as well. Just throwing it out there! Thanks again, loved all of these videos about the things you use. Fantastic ideas, and I'm glad you shared them! 💕 In other news, my new hoodie, t-shirt, and sticker came in! My wife says I look hella cute in the navy/winter women's 2xl hoodie, and I totally agree. Thank you for my new go-to EDC hoodie! Can't wait to get out there and pimp the channel! 😂 Oh, and both the stained glass designs look EVEN BETTER in person! ETA: when the package came I was telling my wife how excited I am to support the channel like this, and she was like "do they have a patreon?" I'm a pharmacy technician. Often observed you can be congested on trips. Presumed you might suffer hayfever or like me suffer free moss allergy. In seeing this video with mention of your nasal spray. If it contains xylometazoline or oxymetazoline; be aware they are fine for when you have a cold for use up to give days. But they suffer from rebound issue where can actively make you more congested. When you use it long term then stop it can bung you up till you get it out your system and mucous manifestations to normal function. Switch to steroidal nasal spray like fluticasone. Use it daily and see if that gives better long ter m relief.

For some strange reason, I almost like gear unload videos more then trip videos... May be that buying and researching gear is half the fun of canoe tripping. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Wow MEC doesn't even make that pack that way anymore. The non-deluxe edition they sell now looks like it won't last a year. I'm so lucky I found one of the last remaining Eureka 115 packs online after searching for months.

Damn, that would be a shame. I've tried on a few other brands and I really prefer the MEC bag, for my body at least

I have the same tick remover as you. I think it's pretty much useless, though. Tried to remove a tick I got on the under arm. Couldn't do it by myself. A friend eventually got the body off. I think an old credit card, cut with a V in it, would work a lot better. Instructions on the internut.

Wowit's surprising how much gear you need for a trip. Do you have a bear bag to keep your food safe Jon, that's the only thing I didn't see in this video. I look forward to the next adventure.

Yeah we're not gram counters lol. Hardcore backpackers would look at my kit with disdain. Food barrel vid is coming up tomorrow :)

Great video, I’ve seen guys wrap duct tape around a card a few times to save space. Might try it, cheers

As Jon indicated he’s a “lighter guy”, wrapping duct tape around each lighter is very handy

The word you are looking for to name the allergy pills is antihistamines Jon. Some great gear and tips you have there! Napkins are a smart idea for cleaning, I never would have thought of that. Wildlands, is that a Canadian company? Sing songs in the canoe 🛶 I am sure you get a lot of inspiration on the water Mr. Brody 😉

Hahah thank you...could not summon it for the life of me. Wildlands is a partnership between an American and a Canadian, both lovely guys, exceptional service. Hahah I'm going to have to add him to my backcountry set list!
