Really enjoyed that mate. Just did my first run of lead flashing on a lean to roof, as my lead man left me in the lurch, and it came out well. There was a mention of tallow in the comments. It’s an American work for rendered beef fat, we call it dripping in England. I can’t imagine why you’d use it for anything on a building site apart from a nice bit of fried bread.

Very interesting. Relatively few tools to carry around. As a Carpenter/Builder in Australia my daily driver is a Landcruiser Ute. Behind that I tow a 1.5 Ton trailer full of tools. All up on the road nearly 4.5Tons. Then at my house I have a 6M x 6M garage packed with tools. A large carport with things like cement mixers. Scaffolding etc. Even a Genie lift. Plus part of a stable block with saw benches. Sheet lifter and numerous other bits of plant. If I had to pack up all of it, we are looking at a 40 ft semi-trailer load. And I still have in the bottom of an old carpentry bag from the UK my lead dressing tools. Some wood. Some plastic. Plus old roof tiling gear including a slate ripper. Over the last 42 years I have probably spent enough on tools to have bought a house.

Carpenters carry so many tools don’t they. I think out of all the trades it must be the most.

I know that feeling mate im a chippy myself When I first started I had a tool bag the same size as stuarts It's a lovely way to work with just hand tools Predominantly I can spend an hour and half a day setting up and packing up. And that's if we are are lucky that someone hasn't come along and robbed the van.🙈

@@slbleadworks they do Stuart. I'm having to start doing a lot more of the leadwork myself now as it's hard to get the quality. I'm a million miles away from your ability but all your videos are awesome and a massive help to people like me. I've inherited a lead welding set up of the guy who I worked with for years as he's retired now. Keep them going mate the quality you produce is the benchmark 👍

@@hn9598 You must be of a mature age like me. When I started nearly 42 years ago in the UK. I had one canvas tool bag and a circular saw. How we got to the stage of needing Pickfords to move us around. I don't know. Thankfully now in the stages of retiring.

I found a big bucket of assorted dressers in a charity shop, mainly lignum vitae too! U cld do with a Plumbers hammer.also hooked lead knife, keep it sharp with a stone. Do u use tallow ever?handy for dressing slippage&soldering.Ever tried a lead flapper for dressing? Your torch auto ignition can be repaired (beginning to annoy me!)also use the blue propane bottles -cheaper and less 'hot'.Enjoy all ur vids u make it look easy!

Sounds like you got a real bargain in the charity shop. I’ve never heard of a tallow to be honest and I’ve never used a lead flapper either. The torch really annoys me too. I’ll have to look into how I go about getting it repaired.

What you should have said what you have in your tool box is experience! Anyone could go and buy all the tools !! But how to dress the lead ( patience) is only gained by experience..
