I've just found this fascinating palette layout and would LOVE to see you demo using the colors you've chosen. The colors have been chosen and separated in completely new way to me, and I so appreciate it, and YES, please do a video on this palette! I've watched some of your other videos and would so appreciate it if you could one day post your favourite palette combinations. This seems so different from your "ultimate" palette, so I'm wondering what's new and what you've just had to keep. A lot of questions because your deep understanding of how colors behave is wonderful. Thank you for sharing so generously!

New subscriber! I love the layout of your palette and the thought that went into it. Fascinating! I am just discovering Daniel Smith paint and have just ordered some of the colors you use. I had also been trying to find a solution to the palette dilemma but haven’t found one I thought worked well; I will be ordering the Meeden palette and trying your system. Thank you for this video!

Thanks for sharing your palette! I have the DS Quin Red. I love it. .Prussian Green is an interesting color made with 2 pigments. PB27-Prussian Blue and PY35-Cadmium Yellow. Only the PB27 could fade but not every batch of PB27 will. Some is very good. Neither pigment is very granulating on their own, so DS probably adds a granulating medium into the mix.
@watercolorpour
@watercolorpour 5 ай бұрын
Hi, according to Daniel Smith Website and Tube label this Prussian Green is made with PB27 (Prussian Blue) & PY97 (Hansa Yellow Medium) - they no longer use the PY35 (Cadmium) but switched out to Cadmium Hues using a base of PY53 (toxicity reasons) - fun fact the PY97 (Hansa Yellow Medium) is also used in some of their other colors that use more than one pigment such as Indian Yellow, Naples Yellow, New Gamboge, Olive Green, and Prussian Green. - thank you for watching and sharing your pigment knowledge. Always a joy to find other artist who love the study of color

Bonus: I received this answer from John Cogley (owner and CEO of Daniel Smith) after asking him if they add any granulating medium to the paints: 'The color, opacity, staining and granulation are due to the pigment only. We don’t use any type of granulation medium. The other manner in which our colors granulation is due to several pigments in the same color like Moonglow or the various elements in a natural mineral that causes different specific gravity and therefore granulation. So NO Daniel Smith uses no granulation medium. Thank you Buffy."-- John

@@watercolorpour Awesome! I knew they haven't used real cadmium for quite some time now. My old samples are outdated because so many pigments have been discontinued. I still have my old Quinacridone Gold in both regular and deep, both made with PO49. My old Quinacridone Sienna was made using PO49 also. And my favorite Winser and Newton Transparent yellow used to be PY97. Now its PY150. So now use DS PY97. One question... Is Daniel Smith now making their Raw Sienna Light granulating now? Mine says its non granulating. But then much of my paints are older ones. I still have my in old DS New Gamboge that's PY153. Yes, it's true any pigment can be coursly ground resulting is grainy paint. 😉

@watercolorpour 5 ай бұрын
@renmuffett the Raw Sienna Lights info needs updating on the website, I call it low to no granulation, as I haven’t experienced it when painting. I will ask 😉💛😉 and by the way you are sitting on a goldmine. Seen those PO49’s selling for 200-300 a tube on Facebook, most people keep them however since they are such a special pigment

I’m wondering if I can use watercolors from other brands with the same name. Would they blend the same with other Daniel smith colors? For instance, I have Ultramarine blue from a different manufacturer. I love your art and am enjoying your videos. Sandy
@watercolorpour
@watercolorpour Жыл бұрын
You should be able to get similar colors using these mixes. Each brand’s colors will vary even if they have the same name. So you may see slight differences. I recommend using name brand watercolors for best results. (some favorites: Daniel Smith, Winsor and Newton, Maimeri Blue)

Thank you for this video. It is always good to learn how others use and mix different paints. I believe I have more than 125 Daniel Smith paints 😱 and I love each and every one, even those close to other colors. I have a question. Did you create that swatch card or is that available somewhere? I have many DS dot cards and none look like that. Thank you!

Choosing colors can be a bit delicate and especially recommending them to others as I myself have and then realized that I learn so much from others whether students or instructors. Just having fun is enjoyable certainly. Since I do not know it all I would like to defer this portion to just “Learning on the way” if that is ok with you. Some time ago I always thought that since a pigment was a quinacridone then it must always be great and therefore all is great. Well what I learned may or may not change someone’s mind especially if we might might want truly lightfast pigments. Please pardon my spelling, my eyesight is not the best. Anyways one might want to check it out for themselves and although it shows up on that end of the spectrum, it is the lower end of that. Personally I play a lot with the phaloblue gs. I also like the phalogreen blue shade. Using a bit of cobalt turquoise or the cobalt in there just a touch can as you certainly know can be just lots or fun. Enjoy, there is so much to enjoy!🎉🎉😊
