I have always called our time of learning together Group Time. Sometimes it's been in the morning, sometimes in the afternoon. For this school year, we will be singing a hymn first thing. Then we will do either Bible geography or a Bible study based on a character trait. Next it's read-aloud and after that either a science lesson or history project before going on to individual work. My high schooler will join us for most of this although he may not always do every science or history lesson with us if it is something that is geared toward my younger kids.

I look forward to being able to introduce hymn singing...maybe by next year. I sing hymns to them at bedtime but mostly they don't sing with me. Somehow, singing has been a challenging skill for my boys to get the hang of in these early years...but introducing our Spanish children's songs has been going very well, my son has already mastered singing one independently and has begun another, so I'm excited about that!

Love it! We utilize breakfast and lunch times as well. I think it works so well when kids are little and need to do something with their bsnds and eating definitely counts!

We just started Gentle and Classical preschool with my almost 4 yr old. Were on unit 3 and loving it! For morning time, I created a playlist of the memory statement songs and some phonics stuff for his yoto player. We listen to that during breakfast time, then read the weekly book, bible lesson, and poetry book. My guy has a tough time sitting still so i have to give little breaks in between. We finish up with his morning binder . He is really enjoying the stores and math games!

That's awesome that it's going so well! Attention span will grow as he grows! My youngest didn't want anything to do with sitting down to listen to books when he was little...but now he'll request "stories!" if ever I'm a little too slow with getting out our books at breakfast!

We love memory statements and do them often!!! We are doing sequence 1 in our together time as my older kids wanted to be involved as long as they can read other books to go alongside it and it’s makes it easy to do a shared together time with all my kids!!! My oldest is doing sonlight church history!!! We don’t do math picture books with my older daughter doing math with confidence but I think we will with my youngest as I feel she’ll love it!!! My older daughter didn’t want to use the picture books!!!

My sons have really enjoyed the math picture books...I didn't know if they would, but some of the picture books about addition and subtraction are ones regularly requested by my son! The authors have done a good job with making them engaging.

I always find they focus very well with plates of food in front of them...and that's something I've enjoyed my entire life, too: a good book and a snack, so I understand the appeal. :)

Ohhhh, that's a great idea! We're going to be incorporating more Spanish learning into our daily routine this year. Do you have any recommendations for Children's Spanish CDs or digital downloadable songs? There are so many options and I'm just not sure which artists or company would be best. Thanks!

Jose Luis Orozco and 123 Andres are probably our top favorite artists for children's Spanish songs--clear recordings that are easy to follow. 123 Andres also have a lot of music videos available on KZbin for their songs. Songs for Saplings (catechism songs) has one of their albums available in Spanish as well.

Hey I have a question if you don’t mind! If youve been using sonlight and gentle and classical, Are you also using your preschool curriculums your created? If not, I was just wondering why, if you’re willing to share! They look lovely😊

Hi! I have used the preschool curriculums I've created, but not currently using them because my boys have 'grown out' of them or are between levels. There's a few factors here: 1) I use the Spanish versions of Purely Preschool and Alphabet Adventures with my boys--but I also want to incorporate English into our school routines, so I use other curriculums for our English schoolwork to add variety (using English and Spanish versions simultaneously would be pretty boring, as the content is largely the same, just changed to fit each language) 2) Purely Preschool is gentler than Gentle + Classical Preschool, so with both of my boys, Purely Preschool was how we started out when they were getting close to 3 and I wanted to start some low-stakes themed learning fun with them--the activities are easier, there's less to cover, mastery isn't the goal, just exposure, and kids don't have to be as verbal. I found it beneficial to wait to start G+C Preschool until my boys were talking well enough that they could really engage with all the memory statement cards and really understand the material. 3) Alphabet Adventures is very much focused on mastering the alphabet. I used the first half with my oldest son...and then he had a major developmental leap and suddenly was writing the entire alphabet, knew all the sounds, and was starting to read...so he basically moved too fast for me. My little guy...we're doing a gentle introduction to the alphabet with Gentle + Classical now, but I can tell he's not quite ready to really master the ABCs just yet...I'll probably wait a few more months and then introduce Alphabet Adventures.
