"these were looted or stole from public lands". If you don't know you're not supposed pick up pottery or arrowheads how can it be looted or stolen? So many people innocently pick theses up so excited to be connected and inspired by ancient times. That's an energy closer to love than an thief.

That’s ALL it comes down to. These people don’t have the lightning in their soul to hunt. They want to play high and mighty and act like they are doing archaeology a favor by stealing private collections

In Crazyfornia, when beautiful historic artifacts are found, officials have them buried in hidden locations. Thats how they “protect” them.

That’s how all the tribes do it… then houses get built over the land later on 😂

Stored in a drawer, never to be seen or valued ever again. I hate that museums have so many artifacts just shoved away in drawers. Why though? What's the point?

What are we.gonna do with them. We need to preserve them for research. These aren't even a big deal they aren't that old. These are all just native artifacts. Nothing compared to Clovis or older artifacts

Your absolutely right about museums everything is just put away and never or rarely ever studied.

whats worse is the museum near me had to put all its display artifacts in boxes because a group of looney activists complained about artifacts from burial sites so now kids wont be able to see any of the native local history.

Stolen according to Utah's laws. Which is ironic because the land wasn't owned by anyone before the white man arrived

@@johnschade90 For now. I live in NY and do too but there seems to be a campaign to prevent us from doing so on private lands. I may be wrong, but the end game is to stop people from learning about the past. I wouldn't have known how many people were here before me unless I had begun hunting artifacts on private land. The movement to prevent us from learning about the indegenous people of our land is most likely the same movement that censors our speech and tears down monuments and statues. THEN they will write their own version of history.

Looks like they treat this collection the same way the Mormon Church treats donations. Nobody but the greedy few really knows how much is involved ( until very recently when someone leaked how much $$$ was held by the church). It is all about greed and control.

People should keep their artifacts and honor the cultures in their homes if they choose to do so. People surrendered those items just so that they can be locked away and the history forgotten.

I've seen two whole pots in the desert since 2010, both times it was archaeologists who carted them off to the museum. The public wants them left where they are. Repatriate the collection to the Hopi and Puebloans.

That’s what they said in this one state when they found a whole canoe and the museum was never made and now the canoe sits inside a lab and it hasn’t been out in a museum yet

If you get artifacts from native Americans as gifts is it ok to keep those or should they be donated

Arizona: Universities and museums would be happy to display these. Colorado: same. New Mexico: Happily. Utah: give us your illegally-acquired basement boxes full of artifacts so we can put them in boxes in basements where they belong. Top men will be studying them. Top. Men. On the other hand, what is the point of hoarding points? I love finding them but I don't love looking at people's private displays of hoarded points and sherds. Pretty lame. OOOOH cool display case. Of a bunch of items removed from all scientific and historical context. I find it particularly interesting that these points and sherds have been laying around a fully-populated continent for hundreds, even thousands of years, and nobody started privately excavating and hoarding them until Europeans and their descendants came along, relatively recently. Why is that? Is Western culture just obsessed with Things and Must Have It? The thrill of Discovery is undeniable, but why spoil it with Possession?
