Ron takes a step back into the cold war era to visit a 1960 Atlas E missile silo in Wyoming that is for sale to determine if it would make a good community prepper site for up to 500 people from the Denver area. Interested parties can contact the owner at kolby57@hotmail.com.

That access to the basement is the coolest part!! I would cover the blast door entrance with dirt that contoured to the hill itself. And then, use a heavy duty bullet proof gun safe as the pantry door and another inside the pantry to access the basement. So even if they make it past the first one, you have a redundancy. No way anyone would get through one of the heaviest gun safe door money can buy. I wouldn't even make the house fancy looking. Just kept up nice and set up inside the house part with average furniture and everything so there would be no give away that there is something underground. Just so your guests wouldn't know about it unless you told them. Something like this would be millions and millions of dollars to construct. Such an amazing place! Special thanks to the home owner and a massive thanks for sharing this Ron!

If I won the Lottery, (in the words of Stone Cold Steve Austin: "Oh, HELL YEAH!"... I have a warped but functioning mind, so I'd be thinking of a survivalist camp, training facility, bug-out location. The only thing I would want to add to the site would be underground parking for members/visitors to park their vehicles, and maybe a couple of maintenance bays. I am what I have coined as an Entre-manure... that's an entrepreneur with no money... Keep the videos rocking!

RE: food question - I think they should have instantiated a rotation process - e.g. when you go to store to buy food, put the non-perishables into storage, and take out the oldest stuff (i.e. FIFO - First In First Out) - so if something happens and you have to depend on it, then it is the freshest stuff in the bunker.

Cool..26:05 sounding a little outta breath lol.Sneaky rabbit at 28:04 .My only issue with these bunkers is that it's too easy for someone or other parties to mess with your air intake/exhausts and your water !! I went to school in one of these in Kansas, I was under the impression the front silo door was filled with lead, the one at my old school is welded open and there's just a roll up door there, never liked school but the history of that place is pretty awesome, I always enjoyed walking around the original silo, have always loved military history since forever and it just fascinated me, the layout of the silo and the short culvert and long sloped culvert is exactly the same (the school has obviously had some changes such as doors and stuff), although the school has a lot more to it than that place that's original cold war Era, I don't think I've seen the whole thing and honestly feel like some may even be permanently blocked off, not sure, but it's pretty cool nonetheless

If this site was operational in '61' it was one of the original 1 x 9 sites. Originally F.E. Warren had four Atlas missile sites surrounding Cheyenne WY. A site had I believe six silos and B,C and D had three each. In 61 nine single silos came on line. My favorite was located just north of Fort Collins CO at the entrance of Poudre (sp?) Canyon. There was a wonderful old gas station Called Ted's Place on hwy 14 and 87(?). Look it up, very special place. I was an Air Policeman (CDS) working the sites. Nice video thanks.

I used to build large cellars for multi pad drilling. About the size of your bunkers. We galvanized at a kettle in Salina Kansas. Basically large steel boxes but you could put a large drilling rig on top of them. You can look them up just by Googling “Cellar Tech”. We got bought by a big company and I got out of there. With the right engineering I’m sure you could galvanize your bunkers as well. We were very good at it.

Problem with these type of bunkers are that they were designed to withstand a hit - they weren't designed to prevent a large group of people from gaining access. So the purpose of the bunker has changed from its original purpose. Now, people want bunkers to live in and KEEP PEOPLE from gaining entry. A lot would have to be done in order to change the purpose of this bunker. It's a great starting point - but I think a half dozen people with some tools and ingenuity would be able to enter it sooner or later.

Alot of dank concrete. Air circulation is a must. Residual Trichloroethylene, asbestos, lead paint. Butt other than that hell yes! The whole Atlas E system was abandoned for many reasons. One of the reasons was because from alert to launch time took too long. They drilled and practiced those 27 facilities to death but could not get the missile launch ready in under 22-24 minutes. Every exercise they did involved filling the missile fuel tanks. It also meant unloading those tanks and running a solvent cleaner through the system too. This cleaner was usually pumped out topside on site lol

I'd need to know the exact location of it to know if I'd be interested. I'm guessing it's near I-80 not far from Cheyenne WY because the proximity it is to Kimball NE which was disclosed in the video. If I had the funds, I probably would make an offer on it and rehab it into a luxury home and make my own version of Gunsite or Thunder Ranch (firearm training facilities); there's plenty of land to put in an outdoor range and plenty of room in the bunker for some indoor ranges. It's a shame the retracting missile silo roof wasn't left intact and operational. However, it does add to it being more concealable from the air.

This would be a great starting point: This package could easily be refurbished and/or expanded beyond it's current size/design. Starting with the top entry/house location as well as additional rooms perhaps another 20,000sqft. Not to mention needed security on top. Although - in a event the gov would be coming to search for supplies - just like in the movie Jericho.

Why's the escape hatch weighted with a bucket of bricks and surrounded by a raised brick wall-surely which would retain water? Interestingly, a formal KZbinr showed how simple towels can be the best sound buffer. Sort them to avoid rot or mould like with a tarp and the bunker should be audible then on :)

Can a periscope be added to the bunker and have it run secretly through the house? To keep an eye on the outside?

The important question is, are these still the primary targets of Russian nukes. How do they really know which silos have been decommissioned?

Matter of public record, that being that has passed to the private sector, and the Atlas E is nolonger used by the USAF as a ballistic missile is a good bet.

Well, they found an old German WWII radio outpost up in Norway. The tins they found were over 70 years old and still, one could have opened them and eaten the content. In such a bunker one would naturally have a constant temperature around the year so I think they would still be good to eat. I'd like to get my hands on such a bunker. That would be the coolest thing ever.😎

Good question. I'd install an alarm system in the air vent. I'm pretty sure there were originally a way to seal that off as well.

I would assume there are or were bars In the pipe as well to keep anyone from going though. Plus the blower might suck you in and probably not be good for your health

Correction to what was said in the video. These sites were never intended to be used as Fallout Shelters to the public, they were high security military installations and Soviet targets. If a missile were to be launched the crews would immediately abandon the site as there would likely be a retaliatory hit on the site.

The tech. and some of the concepts of this missile-launch-bunker-silo is interesting indeed. The idea of a group ownership is the best use for such a structure. In all practical purposes; Atlas Survival Shelters are ideal. Take from this tour the best concepts and use them in today's bunkers. I am sorry, but I feel that this is a money pit.

So for every 60,000 or so missles we have we also have a silo somewhere in America? Besides the ones in subs we have out in the ocean of course.

if i had the money i would be tempted but its abit to close to yellowstone for my liking and with that big ole volcano making angry sounds of late.. an Atlas E is the best of them to get hold of i think.
