That black licorice stuff is called Blackmatch and it is basically string that has been run through black powder. Then placed in a paper casing is the fuse that lights display fireworks. That fuse is called quickmatch. Quickmatch burns at 60 feet per second hence why it's name is quickmatch & is also used in display applications. The fuses need to go much faster when igniting an electronic display or using a mortar that is 24" long. The black powder that is used for lift on the candles is typically KNO3, Charcoal, Sulfur, & Dextrin. The KN03 is the oxidizer that provides air to the burn, the charcoal is a fuel, the sulfur builds gas to lift the shell, & the dextrin is the binder that allows all of it to clump up when drying. There is some reality to the packaging on that big roman candle being a selling point. The other part is a regulation on how many shots can be in the candle without having a base to stand. There's also another regulation on how many fireworks can be within the same proximity of each other due to shipping which is some times why they put those massive casings on them. There's another device called Magical Barrage or Magical 100, it goes by multiple names considering that each company has a different name for it. It is exactly the same thing but is smaller without the big tube. Also I think Big Fireworks has actual shells in theirs. The Magical 100's are just stars. Most of them have a second fuse at the bottom that runs up into the bottom shot of the next tube. They bank on the top fuse burning faster than the bottom fuse that was the whole tube doesn't empty in on shot. The shipping regulation for spacing is especially in those canister shells you had. The Chaos shells can only have 24 shells in the pack because of shipping and they are also required to give you a mortar tube per 6 shells. Those white strobes in your video are most likely made out of ammonium perchlorate and magnalium with parlon or pvc as a binder.

Would have been cool. Unfortunately it got really dark, lightning began to crash down and rain was blowing sideways. It was Chaos. We went back the next day and there was so much wind that the sand had completely blown over the section where we lit off the sparklers. Pretty wild desert weather!!

I've had WAY bigger flames and sparks just from 200 sparklers. You need metal sticked sparklers. First put one strip of electrical tape around them bundled up, then wrap it in tin foil then wrap it TIGHT in electrical tape
