I don't think you can program new colors in. The colors and sounds are in the hilts and holocrons sorted in different banks. The crystals only tell them what bank to use.

Yup its an RFID chip. And they are easy to hack with an RFID reader/writer. I have one ordered.

The copper is a coil antenna you have a receive coil and a transmit coil. When you put the crystal inside a unit the unit will power the crystal by induction it also receives information or a que signal to tell the crystal what to play or transmit out to the base unit that will have a speaker and a receiver to play the massage from the crystal each little green dot or IC chip is per-programmed with a group of massages and software that instruct what to play or do. If that is a true RFID and IC Chip reprogramming it might be easier then you think. Stick a RF meter next to the crystal when it is energized and see what frequency it is communicating on. If you can pick up the RFID signal you can properly pick out the programming that is on the RF base signal. Yes you might be able to reprogram it if you can receive and transmit to the crystal. Reprogramming the crystal might take a little more that just reading and seeing the RF-ID signal.

RFID isn’t hard to “hack” you just slap it on a RFID reader, log the data that’s on it, and replicate it to an empty rfid chip. Those RFID chips are just powered by a small inductor that runs the chip. The light sabre has its own inductor and it acts like a smaller version of a wireless charging pad.

It's an near field communications (NFC) chip. The copper wire is the antenna. There is all kinds of deciphering methods using arduino or adafruit reader/ writers. Depending on what kind of chip is on it it may be read only as that is what disney prefers to use with infinity toys. Nothing is saved to them other that the toy ID. The software, console, and save data told the running game where players were and what items the player should have. Think of it like write protection on old cassette tapes, or diskettes. of read and right as amino or skylanders data gets saved to them. Disney infinity was read only. There are tags like this that are read and write and if you know the code on them from the above mentioned readers you should be able to spoof the holicrons and lightsabers to do any color or play any sound. Many people have spoofed Nintendo amiibo with sticker tags that are 15 cents versus $20 to $30. The antenna also matters personally I have not seen one in pill shape before so it may be a while before they are available to the average person. Disney may also have a patent on it to so it will be a while. It would be nice to get ahold of one and learn about it more.

Since we first found out about these custom sabers and how they were going to be utilizing the crystals, it's obvious the blades are RGBA. So I wonder who will make a mod for these sabers that can tick off the blade to project the desired color instead of having to buy multiple crystals.

@@edojap That means the Legacy sabers would most likely have a very similar system to what the custom sabers do, but getting to it on a Legacy saber might be harder depending on the rigid construction of the saber. I doubt they'll be as modular like sabers from SaberForge, US, etc. Someone will eventually try it

@Sonymnms 52 The data is not on the chips. The chip tells the hilts what bank to use. Every boards must have all the sounds and colors already in them. The Legacy ones just come with the "right" one equipped and they don't have the RFID reader so they can't switch fonts. The program could also be altered as the custom ones do activation sounds when you put a crystal in and they do malfunction noises if you try to turn them on without a blade in. The Legacy ones don't do any of that.

The copper wire actually receives a small amount of electricity from a small field within the saber itself, that small amount of electricity is enough to power and RF transmitter which transmits a signal that the saber then receives. Thats how the saber knows which color to emit and which sounds to play. Also fun fact you can rewrite the RF signal from the crystal and make it display any color. Even colors like orange and pink. you just have to play around with the RF signals.

This is the same type of technology they use to chip your pets, in ID cards that open doors, contactless bus & rail passes, possibly even the same type as used for contactless payment cards. A Near-Field Communication, Radio-Frequency IDentification chip. When hit by the right radio frequency, it replies with a code. I'm sure it is feasible to read then modify or create a Kyber crystal code that could give you the choice of blade colour & sounds you want in your lightsaber. You'd just need to burn it onto an appropriate RFID chip that you can put in your blade. I'm not sure it'd work in an un-modded Holocron though.

Those work in unmodded holocrons. You need a mod to put your own custom sounds in there, but if you program a crystal to act like one that is currently released it'll work fine.

It's an rfid chip. I think the wire is an induction coil so it can be powered by the lightsabers and holocrons , like how wireless charging works. The code is probably what determines the colour and the voice lines. Which means, we can probably rewrite it and make any crystal give any colour we want.

@@alanbanh There are ways to emulate the Darksaber shown in The Clone Wars, Rebels, and expanded universe. It just would require a specially-designed blade. I think it would have been for Disney to have some of said blades behind the counter, and when someone scores a black crystal, they get the blade to go with it.

It has to do with the lore. In canon, black crystals are pretty much red crystals with a different crystal color. The object that projects the darksaber blade is not yet known to anyone other than it's builder, which is why it is only speculation, even in legends. Until disney says "this is why the darksaber is black", we will never know.

so basically the copper wire is an induction coil which is the same tech used in wireless charging. the coil is powered up wirelessly by either the saber or Holocron then powers a tiny radio transmitter in the crystal that transmits a small amount of binary code back to the saber or Holocron which then reads the binary code and decides what the Holocron will say/ what color the saber will be. with the right equipment, you could read the codes on all the different crystals and then reprogram a crystal with the code of a different one. (make a blue crystal make the saber green)

NFC (Near Field Communication). This is called a PIT (Passive Integrated Transponder.) We put these in animals all the time. This is a beefier version. The Holocron or Lightsaber, which has the battery power induces a field in which the Kyber Crystal gets it's energy from. It uses this energy to retransmit a unique code that the Holocron or Saber will use to play a message or shine a certain color LED. That means these toys have every color and message built in but needs the code to determine what conditions it wants to display.

What's inside is a 10 cent RFID tag that tells the saber what color/sound font to use. That's literally all there is. All the color and sound data is in every sabers. Disney effectively charges 13$ per crystal so you can access something you already own.

That copper wire type thing. I don't know what it's called. But that's what changes the LEDs and uses an RFI code. So the lightsaber reads the code inside the crystal to determine the color like I think 2471 is red. Or something like that. I'm not sure if you can change the RFI code you can have a let's say blue crystal with a red blade. If you can change the RFI, so

Looks like the Kyber crystal contains a micro/RFID chip. Whatever device it's inserted in (holocron, light saber, etc.) is a microchip reader. The copper wire wrap is an inductor. It receives power from the device, and it's how the chip's signal is transmitted .

That's an RFID chip. Ever had a pet "chipped"? They encase this in silicone for a pet chip. This is encased differently for the Kyber Crystal.
