IN THE DISTRICT THAT I WORKED FOR FIRE AND COPS WORKED CLOSELY, THEY ALWAYS HAD OUR BACKS. PEOPLE DON'T GET IT BUT FIRE/EMS REALLY NEED !!!!!!!!!! OUR BOYS/GIRLS IN BLUE IN ORDER TO DO OUR JOBS. JUST A SHOUT OUT TO ALL THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO WEAR THE BADGE THANK YOU FROM THIS FIREFIGHTER: I'M GREAT-FULL FOR ALL THE TIMES THE MEN AND WOMEN THAT WORE A BADGE WERE THERE DOING A VERY HARD JOB AND WATCHING MINE, MY CREW'S AND MY PT'S BACKS. I'd never really thought of police choppers landing to assist ground units. That's pretty awesome. It's gotta be a huge aid to people on the ground, even just having eyes up there, seeing stuff you couldnt on the ground. Because there could be one gang member with two officers cornering him. Then guess what? Two cars are rolling up from a few blocks away to the scene to back up their friend. It could save officers from an ambush situation, just because someone had the vantage point

I was a police officer for almost ten years working for a department inside the city of Columbus. I've had the Columbus Police helicopter respond to calls I made a few times when I was looking for armed suspects even though I was not an officer of CPD. The Columbus Police did back me up though. Anyway a time or two I swear I could feel heat from the helicopter spotlight when it was overhead. One time was on a cold winter night. I helped out a CPD helicopter piolet once when he was working special duty off duty. He said he would take me up in the CPD helicopter but never did. Oh well no big deal, I've rode in helicopters a few times before.

Very nice. I've ridden in a couple of helicopters (a Huey and a Special Ops MH-53J Pave Low) during my Air Force career. Being a fixed wing maintainer I've always joked "Why would you want to fly in an airplane that has to beat the Air into submission? ", but both rides were totally a blast.

Why would anybody want to fly a seized-wing aircraft? They are so limited.

@jamessawley2136 жыл бұрын
My father has a similar one (an OH6 "loach") that was previously owned by the sheriff's and something interesting is that the rear has patched holes. This is because before it was a sheriff's ride it was in Vietnam getting shot and because it's 2000 feet in the air, by the time the 762X39 bullet aimed at the pilot hit, it was in a different place.

I feel like the flashlight on the chopper is much more efficient as a weapon than a gun - you can use it in the air for one. And it is less than lethal, while rendering bad guys blind for a couple minutes/hours/life

Thank you so much for the behind the scenes tour!! Very interesting! Xo from Canada... here in Ontario most of our forces do not have helicopters available.. so this is great to see. Would have liked to ask this officer how they deal with News helicopters that always seem be buzzing their incidents. It never looks safe with all those whirly birds but I guess they manage.. (More videos like this please) #BackTheBlue
@mikethecop6 жыл бұрын
They have a radio for air traffic. It's all dealt with through radio transmissions and clearances for flights, etc.
@blondie8396 жыл бұрын
Mike The Cop yes I figured as much... I just think it might piss them off on occasion. Because our police here don't generally have the use of a copter but every single news or radio station does, the one law enforcement helicopter is usually outnumbered greatly. As a pilot it has to be an irritation having to deal with the news hounds too.
@TheLoachman6 жыл бұрын
I flew the Peel Region (Brampton and Mississauga) Police helicopter trial in the last half of 1999 and the Toronto Police helicopter trial in the last half of 2000. We never had a problem with news helicopters. Partially, that was due to most of our work being done at night, and partially because of altitude separation - we were lower at a scene. From what I saw, they also tended to hover (in order to maintain a fixed rather than constantly-rotating picture), which, combined with their higher altitude, made them easy to see and their positions easy to track. Commercial helicopters are highly restricted at night - then, at least, commercial operations were not even permitted under Canadian Aviation Regulations. News helicopters only had daylight cameras as well, so were of no use at night anyway.
@themikeroberts6 жыл бұрын
As Theloachman said, news helicopter always fly significantly higher than police helicopters so the police chopper doesn't have to worry too much. But the news helicopters sure have to worry - there can be 4 or 5 news choppers all at similar altitude all wanting the best angle so they have to be super aware of where each other are.

Question.. what is your opinion about Correctional Officers and being considered Law Enforcement. You may have answered this before but I didnt see it. I have been a CO for about 3 years. I know that we (COs) get a lot of slack avout being wanna be cops. There are officers that also treat us like lower then themselves because we are are the jail. What are your feelings about COs?
