Thanks for the tour. I was a paramedic from 1978 to 1997. Some things have changed, some have stayed the same. Funny how the least used stuff is still under the squad bench. Under the bench, we had what we called the OEMS bag, a gallon zip lock bag which had the stuff we were required to have by state code, but we never used. Four safety pins, ammonia inhalants, stuff like that. Those roll-up Reeves stretchers have been around for a very long time. At least since the 1930''s. They were developed for use on ships or railroad passenger cars. Sometimes they were called Pullman stretchers after the Pullman passenger rail cars
@lf206
@lf206 2 жыл бұрын
What were the safety pins for? 😄 Reminds me of my dad‘s camping first aid kit: it has two quarters (used to be dimes) taped together in case you need to make a phone call. Also some truly ancient liquid bandage and a snake bite kit that totally goes against current recommendations. Every time we clean out the expired medicines and add more bandaids, we leave those things in for nostalgia’s sake. I always crack up at the mental image of offering a stranger $.50 for the use of their phone in an emergency-as if any decent person wouldn’t just call 911 for you for free.
@clmccomas
@clmccomas 2 жыл бұрын
@@lf206 The safety pins were for that cloth of a thousand uses, the triangular bandage. Never mind that most had 2 safety pins in the package. As you probably know the coins were a hold over from the days before cell phones, were in a lot of cases you needed a dime or later a quarter to get a dial tone on the pay phone to call the seven digit number of whatever emergency service you needed. Certainly not needed in the last 20 years in the U.S. since we now have 9-1-1 coverage throughout and everybody keeps a portable tracking device, (smart phone), in their pocket.

We run a full fleet of Mercedes sprinters, ALS And BLS. 2 “baris” that lack autoload unfortunately and only have power cots that still have to be manually lifted into the ambulance. We do a sealed system as well but not as nice as what you guys do. We do a sealed cabinet so we use plastic seal tags that get checked in our morning checks everyday. In theory it’s supposed to work but it’s trusting that the last crew put everything in and restocked accordingly. ALS and BLS bags are both STAT packs equipped for our daily needs.

Love it! What a beautiful vehicle. All those diamond plate and aluminum cabinets. I want an ambulance as my RV at some point when I have time to convert it. I would like to see some coverage of the Air conditioner, heater, inverter, house battery, electrical system, and what all those switches do inside the cab and on the wall near the countertop. The power grid in the ambulance is fascinating. Please show us more of those details. I think you boys are hired for your good looks as much as your skills. Great tour, keep 'em coming. I would love to see more models. Thank you for your service! I owe you folks my life - twice.

Only 1 person is usually on at night. Drivers show up pretty fast. Have a couple right nearby. Sometimes drivers are there at night.

Hi Sam, Love the video as always. I’m just finishing up Paramedic school to Volunteer at a Vol. Fire Department in Northern Wisconsin. I’m a pilot and fly a private jet for a living. I’ve been in love with EMS since I was four and started watching Emergency (the best TV show ever!). At my vol. department, the four medics we have respond in our own POV. I’m getting a great Feniex lighting and siren package. I’ll have to post a video when it’s installed. Since I’m in a POV, I get to choose what bags I want to use. I got the new StatPacks G4 AED sling for the BLS or first-in bag. Even though I have a Life Pack monitor it’s nice to have an AED in the first in bag in case you run into a situation you weren’t expecting. The bag also fits a small M6 02 tank and all BLS supplies and meds and it’s the size of a backpack. Great having O2 in your first in bag. I also have the Statpacks G4 Retro Large bag that fits everything else including Jumbo D O2 tank, Med Cell, Trauma Cell, Airway Cell, Narx Cell, IV Roll, Portable Suction, Peds Bag, Infant, Child & Adult BVM, IO Kit, Chric. Kit, Large Trauma Pad, OB Kit, Adult and Peds C-Collars, Adult and Peds Non Rebreathers, Nasal Cannula and Nebs, all sizes of SAM splints. All the basic vital sign equipment is in the first in bag. (This is not an ad for Statpacks, I have no relation with them but the new G4 series is amazing, perfect for those responding alone. I tried two other large manufacturers ALS bags and returned them and was finally happy with the Statpacks). If I have to bring everything in, I will carry the first-in bag on my back, the ALS bag over a shoulder and Cardiac monitor in other hand. Great system when your often the first to arrive on scene and again are alone. I was wondering what you carry in your locked narc cabinet in your service. We carry Ativan, Versed, Fentanyl and Ketamine. We have a pain protocol for Ketamine. The other medics are telling me they usually reach for the Ketamine first as it is a non-opioid, seems to work better in most than Fentanyl, and does not have many of the side effects like lowering resp. and BP. I was wondering if you carry Ketamine and have a pain protocol and if so what your experience has been. For adults we use 5-10mg IV, 10-20 IN and 20-30 IM (For IV we draw up 100mg (1cc) with 9cc of saline so we have a syringe with 10mg/ml). We can give repeated doses up to 1mg/kg. Again just wondering what your experience has been with dosing for pain if you have had it as a protocol anywhere you worked. Thanks again for the great videos!

Another great video! I noticed grills under the main airway seat. What's hidden in the seat base?

Love the ambulance, but the go-bag seems kinda chaotic to me. I'd love the actual truck combined with the bag system like we use in Germany! Great video!
