Holmes (HH Holmes) is selling his murder castle, and today we're going to take you on very special private tour of one of the most diabolically designed castles to have ever been built. H. H. Holmes would often fire and hire new architects to work on the constructionof his multistoried mansion, with hidden passageways and trap doors, this torture castle was designed with one intent, terror.

I didn't know a thing about HH Holmes. This is exciting to me since I use to work in the area for almost 6 years. I went inside of the post office several times to mail packages. When the narrator said the address, I had an idea, what was standing in it's spot, the post office. There is a Walgreens across the street and a grocery store too. A college is down the street.

I recommend reading ‘Devil in the White City’ by Erik Larson. It starts off with 2 stories, one about architecture and the Columbian exposition, the other about H.H. Holmes, his life, charm, and tactics.

Bianca Estrada Larson does a extraordinary portrayal of each of the characters and the juxtaposition of both stories and then both collide at the end. I learned a lot from this book, though I thought it’d be dull initially. Definitely an interesting read!

@@dougr8646 The Dark Pictures series seems to pull from something historical, like the Ouran Medan possibly being a real ship that was discovered with all the crew dead with expressions of horror on their face, Little Hope pulled from the Salem witch trials, House of Ashes greatly expounding on the Sumerian sacrifice frenzy before the civilisation fell, and now Devil in Me being a modern killer inspired by H.H. Holmes. I don't think Directive 8020 can really pull from much historically, so I'm expecting it to be taking cues from iconic sci-fi horror.

9:02 Holmes claimed the giant furnace in his basement was for glass bending giant panes (hence the size)....this is what he used for body disposal, the smaller furnace was for getting rid of personal items/evidence...At least that’s what was in Erik Larson’s book, Devil in the White City (if you haven’t read it, I implore you to...it is FANTASTIC) 💓💗💖

actually the reason why he switched construction companies was because of a technicality in construction hiring law that stated that workers would only be due payment for work if they worked for a certain time frame. holmes fired workers just short of this time, killing anyone who tried to sue him. and they all did. in the end he had the entire place built effectively for free.
