Ive never done this for a cars tank, but a strong solvent sloshed around with a shit load of BBs, washers, nuts and bolts etc has been the way I've cleaned crud out of motorcycle tanks. Ive even used shattered auto safety glass before. 👍

Can you slosh some solvent around in the tank after taking it out? Could you try different solvents and post what works the best?
