A diode has two "doped" chemical pads N-Type (negative/extra electrons) and P-Type (positive/missing electrons). When electricity flows through the diode some of the electrons fall into the "holes" or empty spots in the P-Type material. The process of dropping from high energy to a more stable lower energy orbit releases a "packet of energy" called a photon. Photons are the basic units of light.

Strike-Anywhere matches are the original kind of match though. It was a fire hazard, so they invented the Safety match that moved some of the components to a strip.

its simple just a plastic, or glass i should say. When electricity goes though it its like a bridge it releases these particles called photon which creates light, depending in how much they use and type of material is the color they get. There are thousands of videos about it.

My wife loved the original Diamond Strike Anywhere Kitchen Matches! She surprised me, one evening and gave me a first ever Hotfoot Giving! By inserting 10 matches, in the side seam of my shoe and lit her matches! The exploded into flame and burned down! It was a serious Hotfoot Giving!

What the video describes as "basic matches" were actually a Swedish invention done in 1844 called a safety match because separating the ingredients is more safe (and also they switched from unhealthy white phosphorous to red phoshorous). Before this ALL matches were "strike anywhere". So to call it an invention to go BACK to an older design even if refined feels a bit dishonest... to be honest.
