Is this will give same tone compared to expensive load box such as Suhr? Is the dynamics or frequency will reacts / response the same? Also is it perfectly safe for an amp? Thank you!

This load box is only for testing, setting bias with a scope, troubleshooting etc. There is no speaker or DI circuitry. It is safe for the amplifier as long as you don’t exceed the wattage rating on the resistors.

What is the signal level of the tapped off output? Would it be feasible to run that output into another effect, such as a guitar pedal or an amplifier that’s of a higher rating that the one being “loaded” into the box? For example, a tube amp rated at 15 watts would go into this load box, and a tapped signal would go into a 100 watt amplifier. Is that possible?

The signal out is designed to feed an Oscilloscope. So, it's probably a little more than an effect or amp would be expecting but not much. Totally feasible to use it as a re-amp box. Might have to adjust the output divider a bit.

Hi - Would it be okay to run a 16 ohm tube amp into this type of load box, with nothing else connected, and the amp’s master volume on zero? I’m basically looking for a way of practicing silently, just running a headphone out from an effects unit connected to my lunchbox amp’s fx loop, with no speaker connected.

Paul Galinsky yes that should work fine. The amp will have a load for the output and should function normally.

Every time you open one of the boxes, I expect it to be full of electronic circuits! Very interesting and surprising! This video is right on time! Even though I do not do any direct recording, I now understand the "load box" part of the equation. I've been trying to understand the Two Note Torpedo and Captor products, and now some it makes a little sense. Was listening to Phil on the Tone King (while driving into work) and they were talking about these products. Long story short, trying to understand to see if any of this has any benefits for playing at home! Anyway, I'll be reviewing your attenuation, direct box, & etc for reference and understanding of the concepts! Still a little confused when they talk about attenuation and reactive load boxes, but I'll get there! Thanks, as it's so interesting to see what is in these boxes and makes them work!

Hi Brian. Resistive load boxes are suitable to direct recording just using the preamp and emulating the power, cab and mic sections. To use the power signal you need a reactive load, that emulates a real cab impedance, having a suitable frequency spectrum of the current wave (the impedance of a real cab is not the same for each frequency). There are some diagrams of reactive load designs in some websites. The most complete one that i've found is in this video of KZbin (not mine): kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4ukk4SXltuggaM I also found a simpler version here: www.aikenamps.com/index.php/designing-a-reactive-speaker-load-emulator

I just need an 8 ohm reactive load. I have seen more eq. circuits, more or less complicated, but I wonder if I could put a few crossover componentes in series and a cross the resistive load? An old Celestion G12H measures 6.9 ohms DC, around 30 uF and 0,9 mH at 1Khz. So I thought of putting 33 uF across the input and then a 6 ohm resistor and a 0,9 mH coil in series. Anybody here that can comment on this?
