wow, you're not going easy on that thing :D FYI that grayish layer in the screen should be a polarizing foil which filters the lightwaves so that only those who swing in a specific direction are getting thru. The liquid crystals now alter the light's angle depending if they are switched on or off, it gets reflected at the back of the screen, then passing the crystal again, turning even more, then hitting the polarizer foil again. how much of the previously polarized light passes that foil now depends on how much the waves have been turned. And Linc' u got some great looking shoes there! :D
