As an old woman with a bit of experience in such matters, I feel the need to let y'all in on a secret: There isn't anything these animals can splash or smear on you that won't wash off. Eventually. There is a wonderfully helpful thing called a rainsuit that covers your entire body and keeps you dry in the event of rain. Kind of like a rain slicker and a pair of coveralls had a baby. I have owned this garment for many years, but honestly, I don't find that I melt readily in the rain so I don't often drag it on. Y'all are just so dang cute. It's dangerous that Herc is guarding against Blue. Without discipline he may misjudge some move she makes and hurt her bad. Don't for a second think it does not happen because it does!! LGDs should not be treated like ordinary pets. If it was not a dangerous situation I would not say anything but it can potentially become deadly when you let your LGD chase his stock aggressively. Ask people with experience. If I bring a new goat, sheep, turkey, goose, rooster, chicken, duck, guinea, etc on my property I show my LGDs. I tell them they are our new babies. They sniff and that's it. They are not confused. It is not a game. It is their job, their lifestyle. They are serious about protection and do not show aggression towards what they are to protect. They don't harrass. They know their job is to protect the goats. Not 1, not 3 but all of them as with the other 200 plus animals. That is what LGDs are suppose to do.

I adopted a rescued puppy to be our house pet. Later found out he is a spitting image of a Anatolian Shepherd(didn't know anything about A S or LGDs at the time) I learned quickly when he was still at a very young age that this puppy was a different type of pup. His personality wasn't like any other puppy I had had previously. He was very independent and showed a bit of bossiness and even a bit of aggressiveness towards the family if we tried to rough-house and play with him like we had all our previous dogs when they were puppies. He is now 4ish years old and has turned out to be an amazing family pet BUT he is not treated or expected to be just like any of the other dogs we have. He is not aggressive but he does have a an apprehensive, on guard personality to guests or potential predators. He does patrol our large fenced in yard and is the best guard dog ever. He loves when I give him big hugs. ❤ He's the best xlarge breed dog I've ever had.

You can use liquid nails to close some of the gaps on your shed. It comes in a tube so it can be used on a caulking gun. Makes a good seal when needed.

OMG that's funny about taking spruce to tractor supply. Because Judy from Snead's farmhouse sanctuary takes her little goat Rugar to the store with her, she puts a diaper and harness on him I think she did it last week on one of her videos. It's hilarious and the people love it.

I think the best way to teach Spruce to drink out of a bowl is to start with the morning milk while he is really thirsty. Put his milk in the bowl and he will drink. It might start out kind of messy but it should work. After he gets the hang of it then he will drink the molasses water. You can always go back to the bottle for the milk. I think it should just take maybe one time to teach him. Maybe anchor the bowl somehow so he cannot tip it over and spill. Wishing you good luck with your goat kid.

I used to give my Shar-Pei Brewers Yeast tablets to keep fleas and ticks off him. We lived in a rural area. He was a large dog (50lbs.) He thought it was a treat and loved the Brewer’s Yeast tablets. I put them on his food and he gobbled them down. ❤

Fun fact: when I was a child growing up in the Bitterroot valley in Montana, my siblings and I would try to see how many ticks we could collect in little jars of rubbing alcohol. Have you checked with Hidden Heights Farm about their baby tips? We used to train our calves to drink from a bucket by dipping our fingers in the milk and then let them suck on our fingers while lowering our hand into the milk.

FYI I have a pack of ten dogs, 9 are female all spayed, and one male, as I introduced a new pup to the pack the dynamics changed but the head dog never did, the dogs all taught the pups how to behave within the pack and it’s been a wonderful experience to witness. Your mixed pack will learn lessons from each other and the head of the pack will naturally teach them who’s in charge, try not to interfere with this process by letting your human emotions take over, they know what they’re doing. ❤️
