I love this. Im two days in saigon discovering my mothers country (from los angeles) and was super curious about how darker skinned expats handle the racism here.

I am a Black American man as well as a Muslim living in Da nang, Vietnam for over a year now. As a Muslim, I can only interact with women for the purpose of marriage in the future. So I do not approach women. However, even though I primarily spend my time in the coffee shops, on multiple occasions, in the coffee shops , I’ve been approached by younger Vietnamese women(mid 20s )wanting to interact, but would eventually lead to asking for money. This has been my negative experience in Vietnam but as a Muslim, my protection and resources are only for my wife and family. No money given!

When enough of the words are said, they don't only hurt, they empower people to sometimes dangerous actions

Good to see the perspective of a black person living in Vietnam, shame that you asked that he has to educate people on how to treat others. If someone can learn negative insulting words on the internet, they can also learn not to say them.

I was expecting you to feature Shu as well... he's also a black creator in Vietnam, Saigon.

I can really appreciate the interview unfortunately no matter what country you're going to they have a stigma and a preconceived idea of people of color especially black Americans they watched the internet they watch TV they hear certain phrases some of these folks understand exactly what it means some don't but they think they're are relating to you on some sort of common ground but NEVER let a person get away with trying to demean me. I'll never let anyone get away with saying Derogatory stuff No Matter What country I'm in and Yes if you are a Black American especially you Go to Different countries no Matter where you Go you will Always Run into something or Somebody.where there train of thought is that way that's just The Way It Is because of the world has placated the word of being a person of color shows a certain psychological thought pattern that goes along with that train of thought pattern.

So how would you handle it?
@brucewayne72404 күн бұрын
@Ryan-qq9qe Personally my approach would be as a human being Every group of ethnicity Has a right To be treated as though they are human beings not what the media or other Societal or social races are talking about what they perceive to be the truth get to know people yourself and then you still can't make a determination to say that 1 group of people are this way or that way it's sort of on an individual basis, Then I think that we could all be standing on a common ground with everyone Realizing that we're all the same we just have different ways of doing things.!!!!
@Ryan-qq9qe4 күн бұрын
@@brucewayne7240I agree with you 100% but I’m asking you what would you do if someone calls you that word? It’s difficult in a different country where law enforcement would probably favor the person saying it.
@brucewayne72404 күн бұрын
@Ryan-qq9qe I would just check that person tell them watch their mouth understanding how offensive it is ,the meaning of that derogatory word,history of it.

It's a problem a lot of africans want to come here like in Europe that's not good for Vietnam.
@tienong53889 күн бұрын
It's not whether anyone who comes here is good or bad, it's what they do here that determines whether they deserve to be here or not. It is like I come to your country I do nice or I do shit to your country, if I do nice I was welcomed from everywhere, neither mine or yours, anywhere i survive but once i do bad then I would be kicked by my own home land instantly without having to discuss other countries. So the problems it ain't africans or whoever, problems is what yo do n behavior.

What an ignorant comment.

@tienong5388 I have met a lot of Muslims and Africans who heard they can come to Vietnam easily and get 1000 USD per month. They don't even have university degrees and they take documents. When Muslims come to Vietnam they will bring their costumes, the same with indians. You can't allow them to come in big quantities.

That's a close minded perspective. Good and bad people come in all colors of the rainbow. "Judge a man by his character, not by the color of his skin."
@pedrojulio19609 күн бұрын
@atonementpreset the only white people who are coming with little kids with a tourist visa to live thinking vietnam will give money to them are people from Muslim countries, Turkish, Morocco. Last time they were asking 300 million donation for one who had an accident. Vietnam cannot receive them like Africa.
