hello agian world, I'm Goem, the lesbian girl in this video. add the behind situation of the crew. :9 I was totally obsessed with the converstaion, so I was forgot camera was there. ( also the production team let us keep chatting freely ㅋㅋㅋ. ) most of the topic of converstaion was what we really want to asked to each other. at that time, I learned again that I can also be friends with a completely another person. that experience was not usual thing in korea. after filming, we really went to cafe for coffee.🤭 anyway, I touched by the comments that you guys send to me. It means a alot, and make me feel supported. thanks all!

I'd heard that in South Korea there are dance clubs for gay men and ones for lesbians, so I had an idea that queer people over there are more divided than where I live, but this video made me understand it even more. It's crazy to see that LGBT people there don't really have an overall community, it's more like several smaller communities that end up excluding a lot of people. It seems that bi and trans people don't really belong anywhere that way! In my experience, queer people in general tend to flock together, and lots of queer guys become besties with queer girls. In my city, the bars and organizations that are for LGBT people are for all of us. I often go to an LGBT bar that is frequented by a really diverse crowd: all sorts of genders and orientations. It's so sad to hear Yena say trans people don't really have a sense of community in Korea... here lots of trans people are in LGBT spaces. I hope this sort of mentality, of solidarity and inclusion, becomes more spread out and common everywhere. We are stronger together.
@Cas_May7 ай бұрын
When I was in Itaewon, I was looking for a trans-friendly bar but all I could see were MANY "Transgender Bars" in the one street but they were actually more like expensive host clubs. I went to a drag bar called "Trance" and had allot of fun and right next to it is a gay club (gay men) but yes it does seem to be really divided
@NerdsPsychoticInterlude7 ай бұрын
you can see in the United States this is the focus politically right now, theres alot of effort from homophobes to try and split the overall LGBTQ+ community apart right now, lots of propoganda etc, theres so many gay men online ive interacted with who hate trans women and its extremely scary how misogynist they can still be sometimes
@SmellyCat-j7n7 ай бұрын
It's not like we hate each other, it's just like dance clubs are where people gather to flirt a lot. There are spaces, pubs and clubs where both can get along so well, but gays and lesbians don't share the exactly same taste for music and conversations to be together all the time.
@derdjedder5 ай бұрын

Listening to what Yena said about when people might regret gender-affirming surgery was really interesting. The data in the US and Europe suggest that only a really tiny percentage of people regret transitioning, and for most of them it's not because they think "I was wrong about my gender", but that they think "society was kinder to me when I was in the closet, and hiding my true self hurt less than the bad treatment I'm now getting". It would be interesting to know more about the situation I'm Korea. If Yena is right, I wonder whether more rigid, binary gender roles might lead more people to mistaking their gender identity, like she spoke about? It's super interesting, and I'm so glad she knows herself and doesn't regret anything 😊
@spearmint955 ай бұрын
Until just this month there were court guidelines in Korea that prevented people from changing their gender in legal documents unless they underwent sex reassignment surgery (and some other messed up criteria). So there may have been a lot of transgender people who had surgeries they did not want so that they can be the correct gender under law.

Yes, it's sad that in this world the standards for what is feminine and what is a woman is decided by the patriarchy. What women believe about ourselves isn't even considered. Women who dress in a more masculine way, particularly lesbians, are also victims of intense misogyny for this reason; for not conforming to men's ideal of a woman. Sorry this is in English, I hope to learn Korean in the future.

I related hard to Hevin as a fellow bisexual. People see the "bi" as you are always liking multiple people at once, and it's really frustrating having to explain that it's not really the case for most people. They wouldn't say the same about straight, gay, or lesbians, so why assume bi are any different? There are polyamorous people, but they can be of any gender and orientation.
@za_wavbit7 ай бұрын
There are definitely similarities with the way the community works in the US, but also some differences I think. Since the US is so large, it really depends on where you are. For example where I live, most queer people stick together because it's such a conservative area and there aren't many of us. In larger cities it can be more cliquey. But some of the stereotypes are everywhere (like lesbians only dating "gold star" lesbians).

Yena's talk around 8:30 is so important because even though it seems like she's only actually talking about veeeery specific transmen and transwomen (i don't know if the statistic for people regretting for that reason is particularly high), the issue she's addressing actually affects EVERYONE in society -- straight, gay, bi, asexual, transgender, whoever! These strong and strict gender roles push us to be insecure about our interests and force us to lie and say we like things we don't, just to be accepted by our community. But the truth is, men and women can be SO MUCH MORE than their stereotypes, and all the trans men and women and the nonbinary/genderless people out there are doing so much work to help us reclaim the ability to be who we are.

I begun the video thinking I’ll be disappointed by the homophobia they face, but instead left even more disappointed. I didn’t expect to see that the LGBTQ community itself is divided and they are still dealing with things like “do gays hate lesbians” and vice versa. Everything they described happens in western countries too, I don’t want to act like we are perfect or to minimize the suffering of ppl who experienced it, but over here, even in Greece, which for those who don’t know, isn’t the most liberal in Europe, if someone’s from the lgbt community tells you “yeah I hate that entire part of the lgbt community”, it’s pretty well accepted that that person is wrong and most ppl would call them out, or personally disassociate themselves from them. I feel like what the guy said abt a lot of his gay friends saying “they just don’t like women” is completely mysogonistic and stems from internalized misogyny. Don’t forget, gay ppl can be too. It’s really sad to see. And for the transgender lady, to see there’s no community to support her. To hear that some ppl get confused that they are trans bcz they just like things typically associated with the opposite gender is crazy to me, I haven’t heard anything similar over here. In general the conservative nature of Korea showed itself here, even inside the LGBTQ community. I guess it makes sense since they just started to form and gain voice in the public sphere and are still fighting for acceptance. I hope this gets better with the coming years 🤍

imo, it is a difference if i say : i hate gays (as a lesbian) - - OR - - if i say - "i dislike men in general as a lesbian" (big big difference how i build a sentence and even if i say it loud, how it sounds) isnt it? so maybe it is sometimes a "tiny missunderstanding" build up there - between the ppl - when it comes to gays+lesbians(??) its just a thought, i had after hearing them talking... (bcos - even if no one must say it loud, and everyone should understand - that a gay person wont go for a girl in general + a lesbian person wont go for a man in general.) bcos that is somehow and anyway clear - isnt it? :) PS: love to see chankyu sweetie here involved again.. :)

I think there is a problem with translations sometimes. Male and female are sexes. Men and women are genders.

I'm straight and I already have a hard time understanding why people can't understand someone with a different sexual orientation, but hearing that it happens betwin those different communities is wild to me. The exemple of bisexual being cheaters, I don't get it, that doesn't mean they fall in love with every people they meet, no more than a straight, gay or anyone else. People need to see this kind of videos.
