Heyyy! My name is Marissa, I have Retinitis Pigmentosa and I live in Santa Rosa California. It’s near San Francisco. ❤️ I also hate when they move things around in clothing departments! I am obsessed with shopping and frequent a couple stores but whenever they switch it up, it really sucks for a blind person. Fortunately, I have a lot of patience when it comes to shopping so I don’t mind walking around the store until I get familiarized with the new layout. ☺️ I definitely agree with the whole it is more expensive living in the city. It’s one of the best options though accessibility wise. Really enjoying your content.

Hey Larissa!!! That’s so cool you’re from there. Wow o we relate to so many things. A few of my friends with RP don’t always experience the same things so it’s cool that you commented you do. Hope you’re managing well. It sounds like you’re super patient. Hope life is Santa Rosa is good overall 😀😀

I'm a grad student working on a terminal project to come up with a guideline for cities to become more accessible for people who are blind and visually impaired, then to redesign a section of a city near me to be more accessible. This video was sooooo helpful! Thank you 😊

You are correct about the job issue. For someone with disability, you have to be 20 times better than someone who is normal sighted.

I have Stargardt's, too. People are afraid of losing their vision. So, they manifest their fears into people with visual disability. So, this is always the problem and part of life. But, I try to stay away from it and just hope people can be more understanding.

Dallas is only okay. San Francisco is pretty good. So is Tampa/ St. Petersburg for people with visual disabilities.

My independence is gone cannot drive. I sold my H3 because of my sight. I talked to God and told him if he bless me with my CLEAR SIGHT I will be HAPPY AND NEVER ATTEMPT TO DRIVE UNLESS THERE IS A LIFE THREATENING EVENT

Hey Clara, I was learning how to drive when I fist noticed my vision deteriorated (better late than never with learning right? lol) and I felt the same like how am I supposed to enjoy all the luxuries and convenience that driving allows when I can't anymore? But I had to shift my perspective because like other things in life, you can not change, undo or go bak. We can only go forward and as shitty as it that you have lost the ability to do one thing you will feel more shitty if you let not driving take away your happiness too. I'm saying this knowing how hard it is and how unfair it is. I prayed to God when I was diagnosed for the same thing too, I pray to God daily but not for a cure or my eye sight back anymore. I pray fro strength and grace becasue if it wasn't vision loss it would be something else in our lives testing and trying us. Life is filled with loss we have to lessen the effects of it by choosing not to suffer.

Just because you cannot drive does not mean you’ve lost all your independence. There are other ways to get around, such as Lyft, Uber, Texas, para, transit, and regular city buses, as well as walking to places if they’re close enough. I know not being able to drive is not ideal, but there are ways around it like I just stayed it. Also, if you have family and friends that can give you rides, they can also give you rides. Another way to get around is by using medical transportation when you’re going to and from appointments.
