As Thai people i would say we love japanese, the cultural is mixed up with Thai society well way back then. 90s kids are grow up with classic japanese anime, food and music. You could find many good japanses resto around bkk and a huge japanses communities in sukhumvit, Thonglor, on nut and in Chaingmai. Not just japanses it the other nationalities as well. We are truly land of diversity ❤

Harupii is so cute! Happy to hear that you like my hometown. I think Japanese expats tend to live in the certain areas and go to the certain places only. I used to live in Phromphong and I think more than 50% of the tenants in my building are Japanese families. If they go for the grocery shopping then they go to Fuji Super or Donki and I don’t feel like living in Thailand there. Also Thaniya alley at night, it’s the Japanese salarymen’s drinking street. But I don’t really see Japanese hanging around at other places but their own comfort places. Unless they are Japanese with Thai friends.

In my opinion as being Thai, in decades ago, English was considered as one of ability in language. But nowadays English is like a must-know thing. Since people in ASEAN (Southeast Asia) can work in Thailand like the way it is in “EU”. so Thai people became very aware of the importance of English. I teach English to some early 20s people and asked why they so want to speak English that take course with me. Because they are not eager to find jobs.They just do nothing for living. They somewhat have no clear purpose why they want to speak English. And they told me that”I just want to be able to speak it, it’s just important.” They answered like it’s hard to articulate and I understand how hard it is. Because it is important in our consciousness.😅

And I have never studied in English major or sort of that. 10-year ago, I was very an ordinary student who were eager to speak with foreigners It s just something fun to me by then. To me, English is like a tool to make me be able to communicate. I had never realized that it was something that I had to study seriously. So it became the by-product that I accumulate my experience in speaking since I was young. Btw, this mindset maybe not considered as ordinary mindset among Thai people, haha. As I can remember, my friends were afraid of speaking incorrectly. But I think Thai students nowadays are less afraid. When I was young, who could speak with good English accent were made fun. But nowadays it has turned to be admiration. So they try to speak English with correct pronunciation.

I'm from the Netherlands and things are pretty strict here too. Like appointments with who or whatever, be there at least 10-15 minutes earlier. Always the pressure to perform and do better. And there are rules for literally everything, and everything has a structure somehow. When I'm in a relaxed country like e.g. Thailand, I also feel the stress just vanishing. The moment I'm back home it instantly returns. These high-pressure societies can't be good for our health to be honest.

I've been living in Japan for 7 years now and I think this girl is a very good example of the problem in Japanese society. A Japanese outside his country feels freer and can be himself, thus seeing that contrary to what it seems or japanese education teach, it brings happiness to him/her and to those around him/her. The reason why Japanese people feel freedom when they go abroad is because they just arrived and don't know local rules and culture of the country yet. If you look at social media of Japanese people who moved to Europe, many of them said that they have lived there for more than 10 years and realized that there are actually more rules in Europe than in Japan. Professor Yusuke Narita, a Japanese sociologist and at Yale University, said, "It is a lie that Japan has strong peer pressure and other countries do not. Each country has different peer pressure. When you live in a certain country as a foreigner, you cannot assimilate into that country to the point where you feel the peer pressure, so in many cases there is no peer pressure and you just feel free". In fact, some Japanese, like her, continue to live abroad, but many eventually return to Japan.

The difference is huge looooooool and I have a lot japanese friends who live in other Latin countries and would never return to Japan. Many times the return is part of a stroke of bad luck and not voluntary at all. Obviously each Japanese can have another experience, but to say that here or Korea itself there is no excessive social pressure is to be blind. I think a lot of South East Asian countries have fascination with Japanese and Korean culture, so you'll see a lot of influence of these two cultures in terms of food, fashion, etc in SEA countries. Similar to Japanese obsession with France and French things.. It's pretty fascinating :)

Awesome video Takashi Bangkok and Thailand in general is a very cosmopolitan and engaging place, I was considering moving to Japan as a American, but many of my friends who've lived in Japan, strongly suggested against it an said I should move to Thailand instead as you've seen for yourself, Thailand is simply a fun and energetic place, multiple languages are spoken and the Thai people are very welcoming and Thai food is very delicious as well. Anyway I will still visit Japan at some point in the near future, because I'm currently living in Đà Nẵng Việt Nam, which i highly recommend you visit as well, I also really love the history and cultural aspects of Japanese culture...like the Samurai and Edo period... MOST of the Japanese living in Bangkok are still stucked in a Japanese environment. They stay between Ekkamai and Phrom Phong which is the Japanese area in Bangkok, they rarely go to others places in the city , they buy food at Fuji and eat mainly in Japanese restaurants or western restaurants and barely try to socialize with locals . To be honest the majority of the Japanese expats in Bangkok don’t live in Thailand but in a small Japan. I know few Japanese expats here in Bangkok and it’s pretty sad to see that for most of them they don’t have an open mind and are not really willing to discover another culture

The one you speaking of that hang out only among the Japanese do exist everywhere, Australia, etc. but it’s only certain group. There are others group too.

To me, Thailand is nearly the word “perfect country”. Bangkok is like heaven when you are able to spend more than 50K BHT per month (whereas average salary is about 15K-20K) However, it could easily offend perfectionist as disordered things as the flexibility of law.(like street food, riding on footpath) Things and people are very flexible which is totally opposite to the way Japan is. I think the obvious problems in Bangkok and everybody dislikes, are flood and traffic jam. Anyway, what I absolutely love about Thailand is Thai people are totally kind. I bet I will never see people in this world who are as much kind as Thai people. You can have free meal when you don’t have money, because the sellers are kind.(not all but many are) Hopefully, you will be in Thailand happily.Thanks for choosing here :)

By Train, on Hostel, having Nightmarket Street Food, Convenient Store, Wifi. One of the reasons why the country is so popular amongst those freshly graduated backpackers.

If you enjoy nature trekking stuff, national parks/Nature preservation parks here are also very easy to access. Usually not crowded also. Also if you want the more rough, vagabond-ish Thailand, try visiting them Thai Forest Tradition temples. They'd hold Buddhist Pilgrimage (Think forest trekking, but add in mindfulness practices) and Meditation in the forest along with free food and free bedding.

Yesss!!! Please if you ever want to visit Thailand, try researching for temples around here! I recommend temples from Thai Forest Tradition, they'd usually do meditation retreat every other week! And some year, even Buddhist pilgrimage! Outside of temples there's Nature Preservation Parks, very easy/cheap to access.

Japanese is the language I’m currently learning right now and I know just a little it except for Hiragana. When I go to Japan I will never let my Japanese friends know I’m a foreigner even though my Japanese speaking skills is perfect. My most favourite country I’ve always wanted to visit.

Bangkok has its own Japanese community. It's such a big one that some of these Japaneses don't even have to learn to speak other languages 🤭 I know this because they are my neighbours
