@@geometricdashingjorge1945 I just got back from SpaceCamp a few weeks ago, and.... I have no idea what you are talking about. Are you talking about the staff or the kids? My experience was just the adult teams, so that may have been where things differed. But all of our crew trainers and staff were awesome. As for food, 1) you get three meals per day, so I don't know where "lack" comes in, and 2) it was the same as most every 5, 10, or 15 year old video I've seen that showed the cafeteria food. So yeah, I'm not sure where the disconnect is, unless its comparing teenage teams to adult teams. And to that I say... they're teenagers, what do you expect? Even in the SpaceCamp movie the teenagers had rotten attitudes, some horribly un-enthusiastic, and singularly focused on pop culture of the day. So yeah... that too hasn't changed at all.

This is a great channel and it was a great episode. What it needs to become an amazing episode for me is even more explanation and science. You travel around and get to speak to some pretty cool people that have a lot of information and knowledge, so it would be awesome if you "exploit" that even more. I feel like you could have asked very simple questions like "why do I have to push these buttons? Why can't it be automated?" and "why do you need to train to be an astronaut?" or "how much fuel do you need to go to Mars?" and you would get some pretty interesting answers. Keep it coming guys, and keep asking questions.

He put on his flight suit with his wings the correct way. In space camp, you have to wear them upside down until graduation. As someone who has graduated space camp twice, I can tell you that he would have not been allowed to wear it like that. The real reason they don't let you go for height on the 1/6 chair is because the springs only contract by a small amount, so it would put too much stress on the hinges when you came down. Also, I can confirm that he wasn't just bad at running in the chair. It is a real pain to move at all in that thing. I will say that his anomalies went WAY more smooth than it realistically would have in space camp. Mission control is run by fellow trainees, not adults, so things generally don't go that well. Also, most anomalies that I've experienced on my missions were during re-entry, so that makes the problems worse. And lastly, he was either extremely lucky or a jedi when landing the shuttle, because it has NEVER gone that well in any of my missions or the missions of others that I've heard about.
@k1productions87
@k1productions87 11 ай бұрын
Really? ... uh... they didn't say anything to our group about it. Every one of us wore them right side up the entire time. As for landing the shuttle... I didn't have any trouble getting it down on the ground. My right-seat had the darnedest time finding all the switches though. He was almost late deploying the landing gear LOL. I was actually quite shocked at how easily I was able to control the Shuttle. "Just chase the diamond" almost felt like cheating. But then... having played things like Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Descent: Freespace, Elite: Dangerous, and of course Kerbal Space Program... I guess maneuvering just comes far more natural to me. On the other team though... oof. They crashed three times during training, and nearly took the tail off a 747 on a completely different runway during the actual mission.

You don't have to go as a complete group. Only multi-bookings we had in our group were duos, the rest were singles.

This was amazing! but how come only 13k views, why at this point a PBS channel can still go without getting hundreds of k views. /despair

Because the KZbin audience isn't what It was 6-11 years ago. It's now for a more 'younger' audience while places like Facebook now have the more 'mature' (I use that term lightly) audience.

They flown space shuttles until recently right? So why did they use hundreds of buttons instead of 1 laptop? Seems like a good idea to keep them in case of software failure, but still.

The Space Shuttles were designed in the 1970's and most built in the early 1980's. While most were upgraded to some degree, the technology was still based on hardware rather than software, so the switches were fairly essential for that. The newer Orion and Dragon are far more streamlined, but many switches are still required for certain aspects.

Is there such a space camp for kids? I am looking for one place where my kid tries it. Her dream is to be an astronaut.

Kids have the priority of SpaceCamp scheduling, with the most program options, and the most dates across the year. Its the adult camps that are far more limited on the schedule, the 6-day Adult Advanced Academy (for example) only running once a year, but multiple times for children and teens. But yes, I absolutely recommend that if you are able to, make it happen. Especially with longer programs, for the full experience. There are also family options too, where the parents and children can go together. Of course, that can happen for adults too. My team had both a father-daughter and a father-son duo, while our "competing" team had a husband-wife duo

You should be 18 now, and you can STILL still go. While there are fewer adult programs in the year, they are still available, and even cater more toward adults than children. For example, certain meet and greets and lectures that children would find boring, but adults would be fascinated by.
