My wife and I celebred our 15th wedding anniversary in Paris, and we tried to experience the daily life of Parisiens. What a joy to find small cafes, boulangeries and restaurants recommended by local people. For us the real treasure was to sit and watch the day pass us by in Paris. Merci Paris. Much love from NY. We lived in Paris proper for about 4 months, and then moved to Poissy which is NW of Paris. I loved going to Paris and to the day can find my way around better than in my own home town! lol I miss the taste of true French bread! What I wouldn't give to taste that again, and also the Croissants! OMG! I've never forgotten those! YUM!!!😋

Bonjour from eastern Canada, I am one of those, one time tourists,hopefully twice, that admires not just Paris but many parts of France. Being definitely right of 60, much less 30, I do truly admire a lifestyle that speaks to me of France. I really liked your sometimes “cheeky” presentation of life in the iconic city of Paris. I know the lifestyle I admire is not for me but I truly still love so many of the French “ pro’s versus the con’s of French life. Merci for the” inside view”.

I have seen three of your videos today because they are very enticing and informative. Myself, being Hispanic, you look Hispanic or maybe from Spain like Penelope Cruz, not Parisian, even though I do not know what Parisians look like. You are definitely beautiful, classy, stylish, a cultured lady with a Mona Lisa mystical smile. No soy mentiroso, digo la verdad, OK. Paris, for me, is heaven on earth with all its imperfections. I will definitely come back later this year. Take care and continued success.

This is life in the heart of Paris. The suburbs can be as bad as slums in any other city. People need to be aware that Paris is not representative of most of France.
@amusingaida2 жыл бұрын
I'm not going to swim along with this generalization. You have suburbs like Saint-Cloud and Neuilly and Rambouillet that you would defiinitely not class as 'slums'. And even the ones that might have had a bad rep aren't as bad as one might expect, especially if you compare to elsewhere. Where you're on sounder footing is saying Paris in not representative of most of France. Architecturally, gastronomically and in terms of cultural touchstones, Paris certainly is. But if you look at different criteria -- geographic ones, or population density, or wealth distribution, then obviously not. But we know that about big cities in most countries. So I'm not sure what the point is to underline that.

After about 20 trips there, I can not answer the question about you being Parisian, but I love your magnetic chic style and if we met somewhere and had a nice chat, you would find opening up to a foreigner to be easier. Paris is a great place for romance, but it is also a great refuge to flee to when a deep love affair ends. Paris understands and will put an arm around your shoulder and remind you in your grief that love is grand and will be returning in an exciting, different form. I like your apartment. I've seen may that were smaller. I like yours, it is plenty for a single woman, although having pets makes it crowded.

L.A. had 40 mil tourists in 2021.
@amusingaida Жыл бұрын
@@Catherine26791 The tricky thing about statistics is knowing what label you're dealing with. LA in 2019 (before Covid, so a more 'normal' year) had 7 million foreign visitors (and another 43 million non-LA Americans). Paris also had a total of around 50 million tourists that year (less in subsequent years, which is reflected in my video, where the figure of 36 million is more representative), of which around 16.6 million were foreign visitors (2.6 million of those were Americans). So, yes, LA and Paris are very popular cities. Paris is the most touristed city in the world, with a higher proportion of international visitors.

Hey moving to Paris this summer, can you give me some recommendations as to where to buy an apartment or rent?
@amusingaida Жыл бұрын
You may as well ask me what person should you marry! There are so many variables in choosing a home, for whatever duration, and essentially you will need to look into yourself to see what external stimuli are important to you and choose a neighborhood (or a street in a neighborhood!) accordingly. I will tell you though that the barriers to renting are high unless you're at the luxury end of the market. Money alone won't sway landlords. If you can buy, I would suggest doing so -- but only after renting short-term places in at least 3 different areas of Paris, for at least 3 weeks in each...

I am a Parisian and I will complete what you say: there are a lot of people in the subway at the time of leaving work. And the subway is rather clean and doesn't smell that bad. Either you take it very little, or you take certain metro lines that are in the few poorest neighborhoods...
@amusingaida8 ай бұрын
Hi Eric, thanks for your p.o.v. (et surtout de ta contribution !). Clean is relative.. compared to the métros in Madrid or São Paulo, no. Compared to NYC or London, probably yes. For me, it could be cleaner (mais comme contribuable je reconnais bien l'équilibre qu'il faut chercher). As for the smell... well, my métro stations are mostly around the Marais, République, Bastille area... not the poorest districts I'd say ;-) Et oui, il y a un parfum bien reconnaissable....

@@amusingaida Let's say that during the day there are no many people, that outside the heat wave it's not suffocating and that sometimes it doesn't smell very good but that most of the time there is a certain atmosphere, as Arletti would have said 😉 Et merci pour ton sympathique travail.

I'm soaking in your fashion, (will be adding back my black mini sweater dress to the packing list) places you visited, how to name the proper cafe, le creme, and your checklist. Already did up the Eiffel tower so 9 more things to go, no?

There are more bankers in Paris since Brexit, and more digital startups thanks to a tax and visa regime Macron brought in. Maybe that is changing the money taboo in some circles. I haven't seen it though...

Paris, Prauge, Vienna has the best architecture in the world. Europe in general has the best architecture in the world. Nothing, nothing comes close.

Emotionally, I'd agree. But rationally: can we say that only 19th century stately architecture matters? Isn't there something from later periods?

Paris is also 7m2 apartments, difficult people, not so good restaurants and bakeries, expensive, dirty, crazy traffic, bikes. I spoke with Parisians. They were not happy. A day trip, occasionally, why not. But living there...non.

What a grim underbelly of a city you've found (among the also middling, good and great restaurants and bakeries and all the bikes).
@nedludd76227 ай бұрын
This isn't exactly like how most people live in Paris. This is basically central Paris. There are many nicer comfortable neighborhoods in the outer arrondissements where real people live real lives. How many can afford the bars and restaurants, etc. that you show? Your apartment probably costs €2000 per month. That is is a lot for one person and it is rather large. One can live as a local in Paris, but not in those areas.

Just a minor point if you have lived in places like the US and you move to Paris. Forget about grabbing your rackets and going with a friend to play tennis around the corner at a yard or at the park courts. You would have to be on the wealthy side and be a member of an exclusive expensive club to do that. And it won´t be anywhere near you probably live.
@amusingaida5 ай бұрын
It's about €17/hour to rent a tennis court in Paris (www.tout-paris.org/liste-des-cours-de-tennis-municipaux-de-paris/). Is that expensive? I don't know -- I don't play.
