Living in sarasota all my life i can say sarasota used to be a great place to live. We now have triple the traffic, homes values are 30% higher than they should be and we dont have the infrastucture to deal with all the people leaving new york and california. I75 stops every day between 4 and 5 because too many people are on the roads. I will say it is nice having the property values so high we dont have to deal with any jigger foots.

Thank you for your input. I personally enjoy what Sarasota is becoming but then again I didn't grow up here. I do agree with you on traffic especially on 75.

Unfortunately Sarasota is far from what it was... Good luck getting to ANY local beaches these days even in off season. The Small neighborhoods downtown are also having to defend themselves from being bulldozed over to make Condos everywhere that block the beautiful views and absolutely ruin what is quaint and cute. I agree, the traffic and the roads are NOT ready for the amount of people here. it is still beautiful, but it makes me sad also for what we have lost. They are trying to make this a Mini Miami, a ruined city I avoid at all costs. Been here almost 30 years, I believe that the time for me living here is nearing an end.

The Lido Key beaches are much less trafficked but yes agree that Siesta Key Beach is getting way more crowded especially on the weekends. The city is evolving fast and with that comes change. Some welcome, some not so much. I still believe Sarasota is one of the best places to live in FL.

I'm a 65 year resident. I realize progress & change must happen...but it can be done well...or it can be done like Sarasota. All the things that made it beautiful & quaint are being pushed aside for unchallenged growth. History means little or nothing. I've lost track of the wonderful landmarks ---- more recent ones--- that SHOULD have been saved. There's a great Bob Dylan lyric that says a lot about current Sarasota...' money doesn't talk it screams!"....If you're working class , this is NOT a city friendly to you.

Katrin, if you had up to $300,000 to buy a home or condo, where would you buy in Sarasota?
@katrinstake2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ann, I would need a bit more info. When you say home, are talking about SFH? In terms of neighborhood, it depends on what money can buy and your own personal preference. If you want to chat, just call me.

I live in 34237 ... not too far from downtown or the beaches on Lido. Property sales are still booming in my neighborhood. Most are going for half a million dollars and being turned into super profitable airbnbs. I have an Airbnb next door and across the street and the people who rent them couldn't be nicer.

How can you forget to mention the Ringling College Of Art and Design and the Sarasota Art Museum? Every January through March Ringling does a major glass exhibition on campus, and they have a functioning glass blowing hot shop with demonstrations. Otherwise it was a good overview....speaking as a resident of the area since 1979. I've seen SRQ grow in huge ways over those years. It is a great place to live, it was a great place to raise my kids, and its a great place to spend the rest of my life.

I read some of the comments. Srasota punches above its weight, offering attractions such as an opera, dance companies, and a symphony which small cities typically don't offer. Many of us come from big cities so we know it's not the same, but it's still fun and we go to more events now than when we lived in Chicago. We had season tickets to the Lyric Opera and CSO until it got to be too much of a hassle. I'd rather go to a "good" restaurant regularly than live in the same city as a "world class" restaurant I never go to. When we feel the need for world class experiences, we'll fly somewhere. For some, the city is becoming too much like Miami. For some, it's not Miami enough. For us it's just right.

It was awesome, now overbuild with heavy traffic. Cannot get to events or the beach. I personally haven't bothered with most anything in about 2 year. No parking and just sit in traffic. Renters have ruined Lido key, residents that have lived there a long time are just selling. Fact!

My family is six generations deep in Sarasota. Seeing the changes and the crowding is troubling. Our waters are all but ruined by bad sewage infrastructure, fertilizer, and herbicides. I have no plans of leaving though. I love it here. But It’s slowly losing its luster. I will make as much money off the growth and beat feet later on. And leave it to the implants.

I love living in Sarasota, but anyone who says that downtown Sarasota "has everything that NYC has to offer, just in a much smaller scale," is delirious. Sarasota does not have good theater; it has crappy theater, and not much of it. Sarasota does not have world class dining; it has a little bit of good dining, but no world class restaurants and very few that are even in the fine dining league. Sarasota does not have a vigorous music scene, or excellent art museums, or ethnic/multi-cultural neighborhoods (except, I suppose, the Amish neighborhood of Pinecraft), or world class shopping, or . . . Sarasota is a nice little town, and I'm glad we live here, but there's no need to pretend that it's something that it's not.
@katrinstake2 жыл бұрын
I don't pretend... I said in a much smaller scale. You can do everything here as you can in NYC but you won't have a 10,000 choices. I am from NYC so I have a point of comparison. But if you don't agree that's fine as well. Perception is reality and this my perfection.
