What's louder? The Ferrari F12 TDF's exhaust resonating the combustion of the naturally aspirated 770hp V12 OR Bang & Olufsen's flagship speaker? The £60,000 Beolab 90 loudspeakers?

All you need is to set gain down to the lowest so it doesn't distort, but i haven't watched what he recorded yet. Edit: they fucked this test up. They should have used a stage microphone not a studio one, and they should have set the gain low so it doesn't distort

B&O just wanted publicity. For a serious test they would have had a proper mic and dB meter. This is the homemade test with very expensive equipment to start with.

To be fair to the TDF, that's a 100 dollar Blue Yeti mic. No where near the kind of quality and crispness worthy to be played through the Beolabs. Also, if anyone's in the market for a good microphone remember that USB mics are complete garbage, you'll need XLR. Sorry about the rant.

Blue pro is an XLR, they really should have got one of those for about £180? I think or a rode NT1. Also they could have used the DB compressor on the back of the microphone to stop the peaking and then leave it there to get a similar result. It would mean the overall DB level was lower however the recording would have been able to pick up the full range. But was still a fun little test!

@@SrAlexGaming The max sound pressure level of a blue yeti is 120dB. They needed to use something like a dynamic mic (Shure sm58) with an SPL of ~180dB. You don't really use condenser mics for high volume recording because it breaks their diaphragm.

Interesting twist . Fab video. Many 'car guys have an interest in high end hi fi and B&O have been a premium brand for many years. Not many car KZbinrs have realised that . Mr JWW has this KZbin game wrapped up imho. Tim (Smee150) Is polished and is great with the details and facts and figures on cars. , James (Mr JWW) brings a totally different vibe to the table. I wouldn't say that B&O is a premium hi-fi brand, as their products always have more of an emphasis on form rather than function. Their products - phones,TVs and speakers - are well made, works of technology art rather than product to get audiophiles salivating, that's why they are sold by John Lewis and Selfridges. That is unlike the products of quality British brands such as KEF, B&W, Linn, Rega, Spendor, Monitor Audio, and Quad. Or if you want to combine style with high sound quality then Sheffield's own Wilson Benesch products - built by people with hard vowels! - are internationally renown and use hi-tech carbon fibre too...

I'm a bit old school James, I am used to the speaker just having the speaker inside and not the entire amp/preamp setup as well. Those speakers did sound incredible accurate though which is what you want to hear from a quality set of speakers. Looking forward to the opening event.

I’m an audiophile and a car guy so this would’ve been right up my alley. But it’s so blah. The microphone you’re using isn’t designed to pick up transients or loud sounds. So the maximum recording you’ll get from the microphone will also be the maximum amount you’ll record from the speakers. You should’ve just taken audio and had a battle from the speakers versus the thunder from the exhaust. There are just so many flaws in this experiment it’s ridiculous. I couldn’t imagine this being done anymore incompetently.

Dear anyone wanting to record loud things, Please do not use a condenser mic. They are not meant to handle high sound pressure levels. It will likely break. Also don't measure sound pressure with a damn iPad, come on. They have professional tools for this. This is the equivalent of someone screwing in a screw with your fingernail. Also, why would you have an incredibly expensive car, incredible expensive speakers, and record on a $120 USB condenser mic in audacity. Any professional condenser mics cost upwards of $1000 because they are manufactured very precisely. If you ever want to record a car nicely, get many microphones (preferably dynamic like an SM58, SM57) and place at least one for the engine and one for the exhaust. Plug them into a decent recorder/mixer and tune the levels correctly so they are not peaking. Also, wtf are you doing playing sound wirelessly to $84,000 speakers? I know this is not supposed to be a "serious" audio video but anyone who is serious about audio will not appreciate B&O's marketing here and will likely avoid buying their speakers because of it.

The 90 can play 127 db. They can play loud as F. I watched the Ready Player One and turned up to volume 85 with the race sceene on the bridge. Your adrenalin starts flowing and there was sweat on my forehead after the scene.

I adore my Beolab 90's. All my friends assume all that power means i play them loud all the time, but that's furthest from reality. yes, they can get stupid loud. But that power is used best for controlling the cone excursions precisely at all times without distortion. I suppose much like a Ferrari F12, there is pleasure to be derived with more power.

Okay, so I'm an audio person here.... the sound was still clipping at 4:23 -- what you need to do is turn the gain on the Blue yeti WAYYY down, until you're not having blue stuff going to the edges. Then, the recording will play back far more clearly, and you'll get a better comparison.

You wouldn't be paying for that anyway. These companies are using NVN like a showroom for thier products because the people using NVN can probably afford them. I guarantee that James' outlay for the lounge fittings & speakers are minimal if it all so there is no cost to pass on to the customers. As for the wall, i like it. The logo takes away from the beauty of it but it's a business so it has to be done. Also serves as a calming effect on the people around it for a nicer environment. Thats investing in your business. Pretentious, it's a supercar world he is catering too.

He still has to create an environment that he thinks will work for this business to succeed.
