Being told that Mr. Page is from North Carolina is a clue in and of itself. NC is famous for its furniture manufacturing.

And since this was live, it's not like they could go to commercial until Mr. Berman could get the giggles out of him.

Yeah plumbing. If you have toilets on the mind, then Kilgallen's question "If it is not sensible to stand up in this, would it be sensible to sit down in it" certainly does become funny

Ccomic Shelley Berman appeared a number of times on WML in the early 1960s. Witty and bright -- he solved some memorable games. However, we tend to remember him for his really funny bits: "Well," he noted dryly to those teenage egg farmers, " I have never seen a cow's perspecasity." and this classic bout of uncontrollable laughter with Kilgallen over the mental image of this product being some sort of plumbing. Kilgallen could be funny either in irony or by accident.

That's because Daley is feeding clues to the panel.

@@justafanintexas7913 There was a lot of non-verbal cues done in this show, not just this episode and it would not surprise me if there were spoken cues or clues provided in order to steer the panel. There is an interview that Bennett had by a reporter (I believe) that is on KZbin, audio only however.

Oops hit the "done" button by mistake. I was trying to say that the question about health and cleanliness, and the sitting question , could have implied that the guest made some thing like a toilet or similar appliance. That was my take on the hilarity .

You have to admire the professionalism of Dorothy, Arlene, Bennett and John -- even though they all look at Shelley as if they think it is time to call in a professional with a straight jacket and the medications.

@6:00 Mr. Daly said that he did not know Shelly was English, "I think he just got your joke, Bennett." What was the joke? In lieu of knowing what the joke was, how about when this episode was originally aired?

DOROTHY: You told Arlenethat she might have one of these objects. Would you say that it would not be unusual or excentric if I had one of these too? MR. PAGE: I'd see nothing unusual, no. DOROTHY: Is it something other than a telephone booth? Does anyone know, is she implying that Arlene Francis owned telephone booth in her house?! Did anyone else notice that?

At about the 4:11 mark, Mr Daly started to give Mr Cerf a long winded answer (I loved those answers he gave) and then Bennett made a quick joke. Then at the 4:43 mark, Mr Daly said, "Pickled Hearing, huh?" Does anyone know what that was in reference to or does anyone know date this episode aired? I loved the way that Mr Daly and Mr Cerf went back and forth. I understand that the two gentlemen really liked each other and had fun with verbal jabs back and forth. Around the 6:30 mark, Mr Daly makes reference to a joke made earlier as to why Mr Berman was hysterically laughing. Does anyone know what the joke was referencing? I also would love to have a set of glasses that this contestant wore on this show, that look is what I am looking for myself.

I thought Miss Kilgallen's hair looked quite nice. Unfortunately, I found Mr. Berman's laughing fit a bit contrived: one of those "Look at me, please, I'm an entertainer" longueurs. In any case, thanks very much for posting.

In all fairness, I think it would be correct to say that there is an area of association with the job in question here, which you might reasonably suppose bears some connection to what you might expect to find doing the task which you mentioned.

I have to say that I don't understand why the guest panelist found this so funny. Oh, this was worth a chuckle, but it wasn't THAT funny. After a while, he just looked silly, so I have to agree with soulier here.

Her question, "it wouldn't be sensible to standup in it; would it be sensible to sit down in it" was when he began laughing. I think he was thinking a toilet, since she would sit down; vand back then, toilets couldn't be mentioned in TV (I think the first audible flush was on All in the Family) So he laughed uncontrollably. Like not being able to giggle in church, causes uncontrollable giggling. That kind of laughing always gets me laughing.
